Didn't get a chance to check out the inside but I think they nailed the fit of this center into Peden Stadium.

I agree that the fit is good, but I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in the aesthetics of the center when viewed from inside the stadium. There's such a focus on brick in construction of buildings on campus, and there's no visible brick on the Sook Center when viewed from the stands. It's a bland, off-white block-looking building. No character, in my opinion. I'm not an architecture buff or anything, but I just expected more from an aesthetic side.

With the exception that the color scheme matches the front of the tower, but o.k..

The "street side" of the building fits in with O.U.'s focus on brick construction.
"Curb Appeal" as they say.

There really is no unifying finish or color scheme to the inside of the stadium.
As was pointed out,Sook does match the "Tower".

To me,using brick could have been too "dark" and look out of place,compared to the rest of the stadium.

I don't know if there are any architects on BA.
If there are,they should be able to take one of the posted pictures and do a "photo-simulation" of what it would look like in brick.

I'm in agreement. I spent much of Q1 in the plaza area here. I think it is a definite upgrade on the stadium on the inside. I'd love to hear and see what the players have to say about the inside for it's affect on their class work.

I loved the plaza and the view from the inside of Sook. My new favorite place to watch a game is at the rail of the plaza of Sook. What a view and it was an enjoyable experience. When it got too hot or I needed a break from the sun, I retreated into the shade offered by Sook.

I cant believe I'm asking this...does the extra building allow any noise to bounce off back toward the field?

LOL if we had fans that got loud on 3rd down that is.

I don't think it needed to be all brick facing in towards the field, just some brick to add some contrast to a bland white building. They could have even had brick on the corners like they do on the outside and not "clashed" with the bland appearance of the tower. I'm sure the inside is great and the facility is functionally perfect, which is the most important thing. It's just bland and sterile to the eye, in my humble opinion.

Looking at the pictures,I agree,some contrast would have been nice.
I also think that the white columns should have been brick.

When I was at O.U.,students would still be buying their books and considering when to open them. :-)

If you look at the original drawings of the building, including the illustrations used in soliciting donations, there is a LOT less brickwork in the finished product. I think the building looks very bland from inside the stadium.

I am FOR SURE in the minority on this one. I love the field view of Sook. Finally, FINALLY there’s one building on campus that isn’t covered head-to-toe with brick! I know it’s a mortal sin not to have every single University structure in Georgian-styled architecture but so be it. I think Sook has a more modern and sleek look to it.

I mean, I understand the overall Georgian theme to architecture at Ohio University and like same, but does that mean everything has to covered from top to bottom in brick? Can’t there be one structure just a little bit different? Sook needs more brick????? OMG save me!

Sorry everyone, but Sook does not distract from what is an otherwise dump of a stadium. As I stated elsewhere, the student section of Peden is an absolute disaster that should have been demolished a long time ago. I appreciate all of your comments but if you think Sook takes away from the looks of the rest of Peden, I would suggest that perhaps you need to put down the crack bowl and back away from the liquor cabinet.

What looks kind of odd to me at the bare concrete pillars on the lower level for the upper deck support. They look unfinished and raw. Maybe put up some brick veneer on those! = )

It's similar to when they built Peden's "tower" in the late 1980s. Harold McElhaney once told me in great detail about all of the "de-contenting" they had to do to finish that project. The most obvious to men, of course, are the metal urinal troughs...but they cheapened up the windows, exterior finish and much, much more.
