I did find it somewhat ironic that I got a mailer this week to donate to the new weightroom.

I am a big Bobcat football supporter ... but I find it funny that they want my money to help the program .... but yet, they don't care about me as a fan. Talking out of both sides of their mouth.

We don't care about fans on a local level ... we have just three Saturday home games.

TV Money >>>> fans in the stands.

We desperately want your money to keep to program going in the right direction.

While a new weight room is great I think they need to launch a spruce up Peden campaign of some kind. I know it's only used so much during the year but as others have mentioned there are some glaring eye sores and a few hundred gallons of paint would go a long way in a few spots.

Also.....does anyone know where the Bobcat statue now?

In just about the same spot it was previously, just under the exterior of Sook.

Hasn't anyone ever heard of hyperbole? I tried to use it to make a point. Alas, it did not seem to work. :)

They went raw to blend in with the raw supports of the corner seats. I think we can all agree the inside of Peden isn't as attractive as looking at it from the outside. Paint job is abysmal which is not a factor outside with the brick.

A lot of larger college venues are in need of attention as well. Upon last visit, Neyland Stadium @ Tennessee looked like it needed a lot more than paint. Purdue Stadium last fall looked like it had not been touched in decades. Nice video board and end zone bar but the rest is a larger version of the student side at Peden.

With the student side they put in a much cheaper renovation then the tower side. What I think would make sense is to knock out the back of the student section to open things up with new bathrooms and concessions. Add ribbon boards up top to add some height. If you try to put in a new deck altogether its not going to match the tower side. Ultimately though each renovation is locking the university the current structures. They could have gone a full two level with the tower side but with the tower in place that option was cutoff.

So you think that a new deck on the student side of Peden would not match the Tower side? No offense, but who cares? Does anything really match in Peden?

What exactly was the "much cheaper renovation" they did to the student side of Peden, and when exactly did that occur, some time in the 1960's? Honestly it had been decades since I had been on the student side of Peden and when I went into the tunnel under the student side last week I thought that I had entered some type of time warp and it was the 1960's/'70's all over again. That place is an embarrassment to any program and especially a university claiming it is a so-called D-I or FBS program.

As for the idea that the more we add to Peden the less likely we will see a new stadium all together, I think that ship sailed a long time ago. There is no way we complete Sook and then level Peden and start all over. It could be done but with all of the moaning and complaining about spending what we did on Sook, I do not think the athletic department/university will pony up $100,000,000 or more to build a new stadium. I would love to see it happen, but the chances of that occurring are about the same as the proverbial snow ball in Hades. Therefore, I think we are stuck with Peden and thus the only real place to upgrade that dump is the student side. Go all in, level that side of the stadium and rebuild a state of the art section complete with a second deck and better amenities/concessions and concourse, raising the total seating capacity to 35,000 - 40,000. It could be done for a lot less then the cost to build an entirely new stadium.

Just my $0.02.

I’m all for knocking down the student side of Peden, but a 2 story deck replacement is unnecessary. Just replace what’s there with cheaper metal stands that will hold the same amount of spectators. With Ohio being hellbent on playing at least half of its home games during the week, only half the stadium’s filled for those games as is. Enlarging seating capacity is overkill and not needed. The current capacity is more than enough.

The academic center and gameday patio are really nice but it's true that we should shine the old pig before fitting it for a silk hat.

Student side of Peden has not been touched in over 40 years.

They upgraded the student bleachers from wood to aluminum in the mid 80's when they put the corner seats in. When the tower was built around 1990 both sides of the stadium had brickwork put in. The tower side they spent more money on it with multiple concession stands. 30 years since it was last touched.

More than enough for any G5 conference situation at least. The original driver for Peden renovations in the 80's was compliance with the NCAA minimums for capacity and so the program wouldn't be left behind if the MAC fell apart. There really isn't a threat to Ohio's FBS status at this moment.
