[QUOTE=finnOhio]..Christian seems to be a coach who can recruit big men.....at least it looks that way so far.

In a brief exchange with Coach Christian a while back, talking about Kadeem, he said, "You can never have enough big men". He's sticking to that with next year's class.

You can also never have enough point guards that can get the big men the ball (proven in O'Shea's tenure here), or 2's and 3's that can shoot the three.  Has nothing to do with NDour, but it is true.  I'm excited that JC has gotten such a highly sought after JUCO kid that has all the appearances of an excellent player and student.

Thru 12 games, Maurice is averaging 16.3 ppg and 8.8 rebs.  stats are even more impressive in that Monroe works a lot of kids into their games, and Maurice is averaging only 25 mins.

Okay, this guy must be a man among boys in his league right now.  On Saturday, here's his stat line: 17 pts, 11 rebounds, 10 assists...a triple-double...in 27 minutes!  The night before (not game before, night before), he went 9-9 from the field, getting 19 pts and9 Rebs in only24 minutes.

for the year, he's averaging 16.6 pts, 8.8 rebounds, and is shooting over 84% from the line.

In has last game he managed to put up 20 pts in the first half, grab 9 boards and dish 9 dimes. As of right now Ndour is clearly the gem of the class.

Hard for me to call a JUCO kid a gem of a class.  I think Wingfield will be the best of the group coming in long term.

Are you making that judgment because he will only be here two years as opposed to four or because you worry he is a JUCO?  The first part I could go along with.

But keep in mind he is only at JUCO because he played high school hoops in Japan and is not from the US.  He wasn't exactly on the radar of D1 colleges because of that.  From what I remember he speaks several languages fluently so is probbaly a highly intelligent kid and not the non-qualifier type that went the JUCO route to just get their grades up.

From what I'm reading/seeing he likely starts from day one and is a major impact player.  With what we have graduating I could see him possibly being our best player the next two years.

I am stating that based on the 4 year vs. 2 year reason.  It can be an equally big adjustment for a JUCO kid coming to a D-1 college as it is for a freshman.

Gotta love the numbers.  I can't speak to the level of competition.  But Mo is making a mark.  Dynamic.

I get what you're saying. I like Wingfield a lot as well. Very smart kid, with great skills. I just think Ndour is something incredibly special. He was the only returning player on a team that finished fifth overall in the JUCO ranks last season and is dominating so far. I've communicated with him numerous times and can back up every claim of how intelligent and determined he is. Still though I get what you mean, Wingfield also has great potential and will be here longer.

Looking through his season stats, a game with 19pts 19 boards (?!)  and several more similar game stat lines stood out to me. The change in the level of competition he'll experience going from JUCO to playing with the Cats is going to be huge, I got my money on him adjusting exceptionally well and becoming an impressive ball player for our beloved Bobcats. I am very excited to see this kid in the convo. Obviously the offense he plays within at Monroe isn't as structured as it will be for him with the Cats, but from the videos I've seen of him he seems to be an intelligent player and I think he will fit in well within our offense. Sadly it is disillusioned to believe he will be putting up these kind of numbers in the MAC but he looks to be about as athletic as any 6' 9'' player in the MAC today, hope to see some good numbers from him early in his first year after he's become accustomed to the DI level of play. Looks like he can get up too, hope to see some heavy throwdonws.  It will be interesting to see his success in DI ball. I'm very excited about Ndour coming to Athens, not only as a ball player but as a student athlete.  Dig the hair too

Nothing crazy in this video, but I think it shows Maurice wasn't an unpolished project big man out of high school...

Best part of that video is that it's from December 2010.    By the time he hits the court for us he will have had 3 years to get even better.  I don't have any doubt he is an impact player from day 1.

Monroe is the #2 seed in their Regional Tournament.  They play #3 Harcum tonight at 7.  It is available online here:

http://www.ihigh.com/school26756/broadcast_286915.html?si...

If that link doesn't work, check out monroecollegemustangs.com, they are hosting the tournament and it appears they are streaming all the games.  That would include the finals NDour would play in tomorrow if Monroe wins.  Monroe is 1-1 vs Harcum this year.  Won at home 82-70, lost on the road a 2 weeks ago 80-77.
Nature Boy had 25 points and 18 boards in their first matchup.
12 points and 9 boards in their loss on a bad shooting night.

No clue on quality of broadcast...

Optimist - Thanks for the heads up and link.

I watched most of the second half. Firstly, some pretty bad basketball - not much better, maybe even not so, than top level H.S. ball.

Monroe won 68-59. Ndour pretty much the star of the game. Played all 40 minutes. 20 PTS (7/14 2FG, 2/2 3Pt), 12 RB (2 O), 7 AST, 2 ST, 1 BS, only 1 TO, and only 1 PF in 40 minutes.

His outside shot looked pretty good - and he is not afraid to shoot. He moves to get in position and his shot looks pretty quick and smooth. No fade-aways. He likes to, and is a good passer - quick hands, good hands.

Not a physical beast i.e. Treadwell, frame actually looks more like Green. Very active, you don't see him standing around a lot. Can post up and go hoop or dish, and just as comfortable out on top in the rotation of the motion offense, w/the ball and passing or setting the screens.

His biggest challenges at the next level will be bigs with strength, and just greater speed of the game.

Thank you for the breakdown.

I would imagine he plays PF next to Jon Smith at center next year.  That'll be a very bouncy lineup

Would we have the only starting line up in America where the PF was taller than the Center?
