Possible first casualty of coaching change? Rumors are Caris has asked to be released of LOI.

Would be a huge blow....esp with the awards he has been piling up

Not understanding why it would be a "huge blow".  These things almost always happen with a coaching change.  Just because he's been piling up awards doesn't mean he would fit the Christian system and plans well.

The new coach usually has recruiting connections and that makes up for those lost.  You just can't have a coaching change without losing some recruits.

Would suck to lose Caris, but not exactly unexpected.  Maybe JC can bring this Big Manz he recruited to TCU, 6'9", 265 lb center Reggie Murphy from Antelope Valley College.  He was originally committed to Washington State out of high school but went to junior college because of academics.

Pretty limited video footage on the guy, but this is an interview from his senior year in HS.  Seems like he might be a good help side defender.  Looks really athletic for his size and would be a great add along with Green to beef up the post game.

We obviously are looking at this differently, as I would not say that just because something happens all the time does not make this a big loss.  The fact is that that we were on Caris before he blew up his senior year.  He has received a lot of awards, including one that some very big names have won in recent years.  This tells me that he was a big get for us early on in the process.

Will him changing his mind have an impact on us this year? Probably not.  But we will be losing 2 guards after this year and 3 more wing players the following year.  It would be nice to have a guy already in the system to step right in.  I am not saying that we won't find someone else that can play, but that does not mean that losing a talented kid like Caris is not blow.

Like I said, I know these things happen.  I just have been getting more and more excited about this kid suiting up for the Green and White the more I read about him.

i see both sides here.  hate to lose anyone who wanted to come to athens.  but if there ever was a year for it to happen, this is the year with virtually everyone returning.  I just don't think Caris would have seen a huge amount of floor time next year.  Personally, after seeing him in person twice, I think he really needs to physically build himself up.  without doing so, playing time would be that much less.

anyway, all we have right now are rumors.  let's see what happens.

I really really liked Lavert and Bradd's upside...and am very disappointed that we may be losing both.  If JC can bring in equal recruits to replace them, I'll be happy...but until then, not so happy.

Are recruits likely to decide now or to wait to see how we do at least some of the way thru the coming season?

Signing day for Bradds is the beginning of November so not much time to see how we are doing.

I suspected Bradds was going to put himself back on the market even before Groce left Ohio for Illinois. His stock increased dramatically during his junior season, was gaining a lot of new interest, and owed it to himself to see what else was out there. Not that he wouldn't have come to the same conclusion and ended up signing with Ohio. He still may see that Ohio is his best choice and sign with JC and the Cats come November.

LaVert also had a coming out season this past winter and might see Ohio differently now with a new coaching staff.

Hope both end up at Ohio in the end.

If this is true, I hope we give Geovonnie McKnight a call. He's a fantastic shooting guard from Middletown who is still uncommitted.

What? Kicking our entire coaching staff aside and losing out on both of our recruits isn't enough for you?

While everyone (me included) enjoyed our once in a lifetime run last March, remember...this is a team that finished 3rd place in the MAC.

Work to do is the understatement of the year.

FlyerHoops.net is reporting that Archie Miller of Dayton called Caris last night and offered him a scholarship.

Did he kick them aside, or were they offered more money/prestige by Groce at Illinois?

I'm thinking the later.

Yea that bachelor's from UD will certainly do more for you than attending Ohio. Come on, would have been easier to accept leaving because Groce left.

Can someone explain to me the quote from his Dad that it is about being in a better spot academically?  Is he actually trying to tell us that the de-commit was about going to a more academically respected school than Ohio?  Does ANYONE believe that?

Maybe not - but it does make for good "cover". UD is certainly a very good school - I wouldn't want to force the comparison argument. No question it is a very rich heritage, good conference, and VERY strongly supported baskeball program - that's why they won't play us...........

We just move on. If JC is as good as he OR we think he is we'll make up for this recruiting loss in plenty of time before Caris would have had much playing time anyway. As well - does any think that Caris was not a potential project anyway - at least in the strength/weight program? Couple more inches would be good as well - now he is UD's project.........

Northland's Jalen Robinson, longtime friend of LeVert, said he thinks Caris will join him at Dayton. LeVert also considering Illinois, Michigan, Purdue and Iowa, with a possibility of still heading down Rt. 33 to Athens.

LeVert said the only restriction on his release was that he couldn't go to any MAC schools. Interesting that Ohio would not have restricted Illinois as well.

Did he talk to Christian? Highly doubtful so I say good luck......but don't let the door hit ya in your arse.
