Brad Bournival of Medina Gazette tweeted that Mike Ashcraft stated Kaminski will sit this year and have two to play.

Even if he cannot suit up this year, I think his presence on the roster helps give us a little depth in practice. I really wish he could play this year as our depth in the post is lacking a bit and he would be a wonderful compliment to NDOUR.

Sitting this year means that if he does go sideways, he won't drag the team down in mid-year (unless others follow) - but I think the team's core is solid.

I love the core of this team. Think our top 5-6 guys are really great players. Concerned about post depth though... NDOUR and Campbell are great.... Setty at the 3... Beyond that you basically just have Wadly. Not any room for injury there.

Regarding Kaminski redshirting, he missed his freshman year at MSU with an injury and redshirted then so I do not believe he is eligible for another unless the NCAA grants a waiver...

Excellent catch on the Saved by the Bell reference!

In all seriousness, what level of transfer is this guy?

Armon Bassett- a guy that could single handedly win the MAC tournament for us.

Shaun Stonerook- a guy that could win POY and be a team leader.

Walter Offut- Great team guy potential All MAC first team.

Jon Sanderson- Good Contributor.

Marian Bota- Train wreck

Johnnie Jackson- Dumpster Fire.

If he stays on track, I would think Offut zone.  Major starting contributor, close to the team lead in scoring.  I know he's coming down a level (or two) from the B1G but he needs to work on being a more complete player before I think of him as a team leader/POY kind of guy.  He needs to go from a 3pt shooting specialist to a player who can rebound, defend his position adequately, and go inside to mix it up.

Agree on all fronts.  By solid core I was referring to none of them being influenced by an outsider coming in.

I think the biggest fear is that he's none of the above, but actually the Anrio Adams transfer. These guys listed at least made it to the floor. Their assessments are based on their on-court abilities. I think, from everything listed and what I've read, the questions about Kaminski have little to nothing to do with his basketball abilities. The questions are character-related, meaning we are going to be holding our breath, hoping he makes it onto the court eventually. Once (if) that day comes, I think we'll be in good position.

Team leader?  Maybe, but team leaders set an example and get it done in the classroom.  KK did not at MSU.  Rarely does one see a "team leader" get kicked in the ass on the way out as KK was by Izzo.

Oh ok I misunderstood. I agree there as well. We have a good group of guys on this roster.

In the articles from Canada, Saul said Setty was playing the 3 up there. I really think Setty could play the 4 if needed as he has the size but I do think he is mobile enough to play at the 3. Towards the end of last year, he really did a good job putting the ball on the floor and driving the the basket from the wings.

Either way, his versatility helps depth.

Hopefully Wadly can develop into a guy who can give us quality minutes. Mo and Campbell on the floor together should be a handful for pretty much all of our opponents.

I was told that the NCAA decision is expected soon. Probably by September 25 latest.

This has been made official today by the basketball program. Nothing said about when he's eligible.

There is no mention of being held out this coming season. Should we assume he is good to go for 2014-15?

I know it has already been discussed--but why shouldn't the young man play this year. He was kicked off a team--he didn't violate NCAA rules. If a coach doesn't want a kid and bounces him; the kid has no alternative but to go somewhere else and test his skills.

If he had to sit because a coach didn't want him, any half axed lawyer could take that case and make someone pay big time for taking away a year in the life of an athlete.

One reason I can think of is that getting kicked off the team intentionally could become a way to circumvent the transfer rules. We could become a nice feeder system for the big boys.

Exactly. That's why I think the NCAA won't grant the waiver. I hope I'm wrong...I'd love to see Kaminski play this year.

If he was from some smaller program, it could happen. But there is just no way the NCAA would give a waiver to a kid leaving Tom Izzo/Michigan State.

I was wondering the same thing. "By the 25th" would seem to mean that tomorrow was the last possible date. i'm hoping that the reason they are taking this long is because it's not a cut and dry decision and there are extenuating circumstances that will ultimately lead to a waiver.

Per Arkley Twitter today:

"Two quick roster notes: No word yet on Kaminski's NCAA appeal (yes or no), and Thomas "waiting on paperwork" before being added to list"

Still no word, I guess. This seems to be dragging on a really long time. I don't know if that's good or bad news.[
