There's 2 threads on Temple's board about Owens, one before he announced his verbal to OHIO and one after.  Their attempt to explain away the hurt is hilarious-

- He is visiting a week from now as I previously wrote but I really don't think Temple is near the top of the list.  Miami has a much greater immediate need for big men.  I'd still hope he comes here.

- From what I read, this would be a nice get and the kid would fit in well.

- beating out a top ACC school would still be a real recruiting coup.

- It's ok I wasn't to high on the kid, sure I would have liked to see him an owl but I thought he was one of those kids that you get if you miss out on you top targets I thought it was too early for us to sign someone like him.

- This has nothing to do with "Temple losing out to Ohio" and everything to do with where the kid will be able to play.

- This kid chose the MAC over the ACC and AAC. Get real. It's definitely about playing time.

- Anyway, agree with posters writing that competition and playing time are the logical reasons for his choice.

too funny. good job JC, and welcome Tariq.

You all are going to be VERY excited over the player who may be getting Green's scholarship.  It isn't Walter Luckett level, but it is MUCH higher than anybody may foresee.  Sorry I can't tell you who it is, but look for  it in 2 weeks.  All the recruiting is going very well, with several players being lined up for the early signing period.

Owens is a great get but Walter Luckett was the greatest get for Ohio ever, in terms of pre-college rankings. He graced the cover of SI before even stepping on the court in Athens.

How did Luckett end up at Ohio? What was his ranking?

At the time Luckett was regarded as one of THE top recruits in the country. I actually spoke to Luckett about this topic at length. He said that it was a factor of a freak knee injury and wanting to be the guy on a team that led him to Ohio. He mentioned having interest form the Kentucky's of the world where he would ride the bench for a season or two before getting serious playing time. At Ohio he was the star before he even wore the jersey.

At least one person wanted to see grabbing a recruit that the big schools had also offered. Here it is.

I really miss playing Temple in football every year. Beating them was the best.

I think we shoud found a conference and consider how ridiculous the school's online message boards are when adding teams... We could start with Temple and Marshall and be in business.

Read this article:

A lot of interesting stuff in there...  Tariq sounds like he is still growing.

How much do you love what Tariq had to say about his campus visit here? Roderick McDavis!

another amusing quote, this time from the Miami(Fl) boards-

Good for him! He's apparently very talented and will do really well in the MAC. It's obvious he loved his visit there, but I'd imagine that we were waiting on other kids and weren't prepared to accept a commitment (if he wanted to) anyway.

yeah, 'cause, you know, schools turn down verbal commitments all the time.

Interesting that he only played 11 minutes per game for his high school team this past year as a junior. It certainly seems that he's got a lot of developing to do yet but a ton of potential.

Under JG we seemed to become much more guard and wing oriented.  I always thought we could win any 6'5" and under league.  However, in addition to good guard play you need some size to get you the ball and guard the hoop as well as work (as Gary Trent says) from the inside out.  So, I am very happy to see the bigs that JC and staff are bringing in.  I think we may actually start outrebounding teams in the next year or two.  In addition, these bigs seem real athletic.

But as we learned under Larry, at the mid major level the key to winning is guards.  Remember, under Larry we had high major bigs but we only won one MAC title.  To have the entire package would be awesome and would position us to continue being competitive and successful just about every season.

First, this guy is only mentioned because he plays at Ohio State.  If he sat on the bench elsewhere, no one would care about him.  Second, it is stated in another thread elsewhere on this site that he's staying at OSU.

frist, I asked that question before someone posted that on the basketball bored. Second, he's one of the better 3 point shooters you will see in collage b-ball this year so no it's not just because he goes to TOSU. He would start here next year.

Beg to differ, my friend.  Amadeo shot 10-26, .385 from beyond the arc.  not enough to qualify for official NCAA rankings, but if he had, he would not even have been in the top 50. Dozens of TEAMS had a better percentage (feel free to look it up, but I already did).  Was only third best from beyond arc at OSU last year.  Most, not all, of his shots came against lesser opponents or in garbage time.  Barely got off bench in conference games and was 3-9 on 3-pointers when he did.  Can't make free throws, shot .500.  I suspect 1 reason he didn't play many minutes is that Matta did not trust him much on defense and if that's the case, Christian probably wouldn't either.  Could he start at Ohio?  I dunno.  If he did, we probably would not have much of a team.

Again, just because someone is sitting on the bench at OSU or Missouri or any other power conference school, it does not AUTOMATICALLY mean he's a good player, or that he'd start or even be a good fit for Ohio.  For every Walter Offut there is a Kadeem Green.

Interesting article about Tariq and his Dad in the Washington Post today.  Sounds like he comes from a good family.
