Christian's system is based on big men and having plenty of them.

Owens also has offers from Morgan State, Seton Hall, and Florida Gulf Coast.

He is a 3-star recruit on Rivals: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Tariq-Owens-142563

Also a 3-star recruit on Scout: http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=6565635

According to Evan Daniels of Scout he is visiting Ohio on June 2nd, and will be visiting Temple shortly after. He also has offers from Miami (FL), South Florida, Seton Hall, FGCU, and VCU.

I feel pretty confident I'd commit to Ohio University all over again if I got to visit this upcoming weekend.

All of the Rivals and Scout and other recruiting gurus are gushing over this on Twitter. Looks like an absolute steal for us at this time.

Here's to hoping it sticks through signing day.

PF TARIQ OWENS, LAUREL (MD.) ST. VINCENT PALOTTI

Make no mistake about it, Owens needs to add more strength to his lean frame but he can play. What he can really do is go and get a rebound on the offensive end. He seems to have nice touch but perhaps lack a little confidence on offense.

If this comes through, this has to be one of the biggest gets ever for Ohio, right? We're talking about beating out a team that was recently ranked #2 in the nation (Miami), the most exciting Sweet 16 team from last year (FGCU), recent Final Four participant VCU, and many others. Man, I hope this really does hold up.

Owens is a great get but Walter Luckett was the greatest get for Ohio ever, in terms of pre-college rankings. He graced the cover of SI before even stepping on the court in Athens.

How did Luckett end up at Ohio? What was his ranking?

Love when we recruit DC area kids. Gives me something to do next Winter.  I may get a chance to see him this weekend if his AAU team, Baltimore's Finest, is playing in the Maryland Invitational.  My son's team is playing in it. He's only 3rd grade but a lot of times they play under the same roof (there's a facility down here with 10 courts) as the big boys.

In reading his profile it appears that he needs to put on weight but that he's already a good defender and a prolific shot blocker.

This is a great commit for us and an excellent decision by Tariq!  Good article at the link.  It was written prior to Tariq's decison to commit, and says whoever wins the recruiting battle will be getting the best shot blocker of the 2014 class!

This is great news!  Congratulations to the coaching staff and player hosts for their work on this.  I wish Tariq the best for his senior year of HS, and I'm really looking forward to his signing day this coming November.

Also...this has GOT to put to rest the talk that "Christian can only recruit jucos and transfers".  Right?

I'm excited too guys, but it's only a verbal. Hope he can keep the vultures off him for the next 5 months.

It's still better than a verbal to Temple.

Most verbals stick.  Not a guarantee, but I agree with Van.  Likely he'll be a Bobcat.

Awesome get!  Best shot blocker in the class?  JC has really focused on getting bigger and better in the low post after we had such a guard oriented team under JG.  Can't wait to see him team up with the bigs coming in this fall!

Next level.

Very excited. JC took this job knowing what kind of recruits he could convince to come here. This is awesome.
