You can see the actual signing at about 3:30... the basketball players go up to the podium at about the 26 minute mark.

So, how many offers did Ben have? I wish LC did this for BB like he does football. It’s interesting keeping up with all the talk about offers recruits have. It makes me wonder if there’s as much non correlation with basketball as there is in football at 3 star and below.

Per VerbalCommits.com he had 6. Ohio, Akron. Miami, Stony Brook, St. Bonnie, and UT Martin. Most were from 2017. Miami and Bonnies were very recent (March). A couple sites had Xavier and OSU on him but never offered.

Can we stop trying to justify Saul? There were all types of schools that were very interested in Roderick, Indian, Ohio state and Xavier are three that come to mind, he was not the 10th man on the team, he is a top 250 recruit, we got two of those this year, Saul never got a top 500 recruit. This young man can ball and we should all be very excited to get him.

I agree with you on Roderick. Very impressive player.
I always had the feeling that Saul was trying to recruit on the fringes and find the diamond in the rough. As time went along he seemed like he didn’t want to go head to head with anybody for premium type players. Maybe it wasn’t as much him as his assistants. Boals seems to have a why not us attitude and is going to go after top flight guys.

correct me if I am wrong, it seems as if you are bringing up about coach Saul and instigating more drama, let it go, he is moving forward. as us CAT fans are. I hope people can move to the next page and be optimistic about the future of OHIO basketball. Allen

No it is not me it is the people complaining about the stars and the real offers, trying to diminish Roderick and others. People are talking about how injuries doomed Saul, come on, Saul is gone, Boals is the guy, let’s get behind him. Go Cats

Funny how at the time of signing Roderick was listed as the #5 ranked recruit in Ohio and 167th nationally, but has now slipped to #6 in-state and 228 nationally... Oh and as a quick side note, I remember looking at 247 Sports and being pumped because our recruit Price was literally the next recruit listed at 168. Now, he's in the 3OO's if I'm not mistaken. We see this happen on the football side of recruiting rankings quite a bit so, I guess we shouldn't be too surprised...

On the other hand, McDay went from unranked until this week when he went to 2 stars , the 75 best point guard and number 15 best player in Ohio on 247 sports.

You have a reading comprehension problem. I basically said that the number of offers that recruits have is not indicative of the how the player will necessarily turn out. Drop the Saul justification stuff-you’re way overboard.

Yeah, it's good that McDay is now ranked... I was doubtful that the center from Michigan would be listed but, thought Brown from NY would get a listing/ranking.
Either way, they will all get their shot to prove themselves soon enough!

As others have pointed out, the accuracy of these ratings really drops off after the top 300, and perhaps after the first 150. Price dropping that much is nonsense.

this is ridiculous conversation once again. I see ya here Jeff on numbers. This is why we hire as good of a coach as we can. I've seen it with my own eyes. When Kids come to campus, there lives are all over they place, discipline, partying, girls, keeping up the grades. etc. and that's when our coaching staff comes in. I am optimistic

I think you are missing the point. The point is not that these players are now worse. The point is that recruiting services often arbitrarily move players up/down based on where they commit. This is a great recruiting class no matter where they end up in the rankings.

If you’ve actually had skin in the game, you realize exactly how this works. It’s all about offers. Personally dealt with kids who went after their senior season from not being ranked to a top 50 kid just based on 1 school making an offer. Pretty interesting stuff.

Would we stop talking about these ranking systems like they mean something?

Unless you're a top 20 player in the country, nobody knows what the bleep they're talking about. And at that point, I'm not going to call somebody a guru because they can see that Zion Williamson can jump so high his head scrapes the rafters and flies through the air like Superman from the block to the corner to block shots. Duh.

Billy is right. They just look at the offers and assign a number to them. It's not scouting. It's not scientific. If a guy is ranked 50th or 75th is completely arbitrary.

I can't wait to see what this team does. The newcomers look solid but they're freshmen. This year will be made or broken by Ogbanda, BVP, Preston and Dartis and possibly Murrell as the guys with experience.

It seems to me that Springs needs to become a significant contributor for us to have a good team this year. Without a strong consistent inside presence ( I have doubts that Ogbanda can be that by himself), we will have trouble defending and rebounding against teams with good big men.

Agree...Springs needs to be serviceable. Probably a minimum of 10 quality minutes per game. Hoping this turns out to be Saul's going away present to us diehards.
