Which means hopefully the new staff are already planning on getting to know him better.

According to Arkley tweet, Ibi Watson has strong interest from Akron and may even already have an offer.

Suppose we get VJ King – 6’7 Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary’s shooting guard instead.  Do heads still explode?

I supposed it would soften the blow. But why not both?

Realistically, King is probably going someplace like O$U or Cincinnati, as he's a 5 star according to Rivals, so he's not likely coming here.

Steven King received a scholarship from Ohio, that didn't make him a D1 player.. FYI In my opinion Watson will eventually be a good college player.

If Steven King played at a DI school on scholarship, you mind explaining to me how he was still not a DI player?

King would run circles around plenty of D1 players. Quit being stupid.

Maybe he was misused, or under coached?   Why are we talking about King on the thread about Watson again?

I hate to see how this board reacts if Mr. Watson chooses to attend Ohio State!

Bummer for Athenians.  Well, to compare to OU guys who needed to chase the bright lights, I guess its better to work on your money shot at Pickerington Central than leave to concentrate on your rap career.

Ah yes, Pickerington Central.

The school that is actually a closer in distance to Athens High School than Waverly High School, yet some wanted to claim a certain past coach didn't recruit "local" players when we passed on a Waverly player and offered a superior player from Pickerington.

While it is unfortunate for the Athens Bulldogs they are losing a great player,  I am a firm believer that Pickerington falls in Saul's definition of recruiting "local" players.

And, I suppose you'll tell me that Pickerington didn't recruit him?  If so, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to try and sell you.  There are scandals all over the place in high school athletics that no one has had the guts to look at in recent years.  These inter-district transfers just don't happen in a vacuum. You know if it quacks like a duck and looks like a duck there's a darn good chance it is a duck.

The kids family actually moved from what I hear. I also believe this kid has only been at Athens for 3 years, not like it is his home town.

unless the duck moves ponds.... for a new job....a better position,,,a financial situation....whole variety of reasons ducks move.....

There are reasons kids have to leave schools behind. My SO went from Jacksonville to Bloom Carrol to Trimble to the Career Center at Nelsonville in her final 6 years of school. I am not going to say there are not a great many moves by athletes to different schools, I find many of those are athlete and parent initiated and MOST have very little or nothing to do with the school or program recruiting them. Only out of touch old farts keep rattling the "recruiting" pan as their prime reason for leaving.

Very familiar and vocal about these in my home state where we actually know who the recruiters are and call out the IHSAA for not having the nuts to deal with them while they punish movement in the 88 counties not named Marion here in Indiana. We have not had the Open Enrollment Ohio has enjoyed since 1989

That's a good thing, IMHO.  Open enrollment is the heart of the problem in the "Heart of it all."  It just cries out for abuse when you are dealing with athletics.  I predict that eventually some enterprising journalist (we still have few left in Ohio) is going to look into this situation and will find many, many abuses.  Not saying it's true in every case, or even a majority of cases, but to deny that it happens in a significant number of situations is to be even more naive than this old fart.  BTW, you is approaching oldfarthood yourself!

I never said it did not go on....I just stated what is my experience...that old farts rattle on accusing schools of recruiting while the bulk of transfers come from parents shopping their kids or kids wanting to continue to play together after summer ball is over.  I never called you an old fart but .....if the foo shits.

The open enrollment only gives parents a leg up on the ability to move their kid as they no longer have to pay tuition to a school for their kid to attend . Time after time parents complain to me about how their kid is being used or complain about the coach and his ways with the threat always being " we may need to look at switching schools...

I challenge you to look at Pick Central and come up with a place to point a finger where there is a coach who is rumoured to have recruited a kid. Do the legwork. My bet is this move is all on the parents and the kid for another athletic or non athletic reason. I do not think I am at all naive as I tend to ask that info ....A LOT....as in "how did you end up at .......???". Most of the answers go back to the parents.
