Arkley has tweeted a lot about this guy, so here is a link to a story about him.

I will be seriously bummed if both he and Burrow end up elsewhere.

Agreed, although if they left it would be completely understandable.  I know when I was 18 the last place I wanted to go to college was home where I lived.

That may be true, but think of it this way: Home for you wasn't Athens. Also, I'm a current student and while I didn't want to go to college in my hometown, I wanted to be pretty close and other than OU, there is nowhere other than community colleges close. So you never know what they may consider.

Good point.  I sure left home for OHIO.  I guess if a top Big 5 conference team offers they should take it.  But, I would hope that OHIO would win out over bottom dwelling Big 5 teams and all other mid-majors.  But, that is selfish of me.

have to agree with Arkley that Athens v. Warren Local game at Logan Friday should be top notch.  I'm almost tempted to drive down to The Hilltop, but afraid I'd find the game sold out...

brucecuth,
I have an extra ticket for the Athens Warren game tonight if you want it.  Have you heard where the French kid from Warren is being recruited.  Lots of comparisons to Kretzer from Waverly who ended up at Akron.

Evan French has signed with NCAA Div. II West Liberty, one of the top 10 Div. II programs in the country.

It's a good fit for him.  West Liberty (known in the Valley back in the day as the high school on the hill) has a high glaze offensive system where they shoot first and ask questions later.  They are a fast paced offense with a shot going up every fifteen seconds or less.

What is a bummer is I do believe Watson is heading to Akron over the summer to play on the King James AAU team. This info came from an interview with Athens head coach Jeff Skinner while doing a show on 970WATH.

I hate to think Watson will spend all summer in Akron right underneath Dambrot's nose - the Zips already bring a legion of fans from Waverly every time Akron plays Ohio at the Convo ... If they sign Watson, I'm guessing the Athens folk will be put in a quandary when the two square off at the Round House on Richland.

No doubt, Shaq. Just like the Schott was full of Michigan fans last year when the Wolverines visited because of Trey Burke and Carris LeVert.

Playing for King James AAU doesn't make me think he is anywhere near a lock for Akron. Yes, Dambrot has good ties to Lebron and that team. That is a benefit for them, but nothing more.

It isn't like Christian and the Ohio program doesn't have great ties to NEO. For all the complaints about Akron coming into SEO (even though Waverly is 1 hour from Athens) Akron fans could make a similar complaint about Ohio going into areas within an hour of their school. We have plenty of ties up there. Pulled Reggie Keely from Greater Cleveland. Sonny Johnson is a very important coach up there. Christian recruited endless kids from the region while at Kent.

In Watson's 2016 class, we are already recruiting a couple NEO kids hard. Not to mention Central Ohio kids. We have a shot on Watson like any other recruit in-state.

Also on that note Jon Smith played for King James AAU and it wouldn't surprise me if some other Ohio guys have as well.

They are averaging 106 ppg this season.  Last I checked, they were 23-2.  Have been in the Div. II Elite Eight two seasons lately.  Good coaching staff.

The only other player listed amongst their alumni as an Ohio player is Jarryd Tribble.  If he did play for us I don't remember him at all.

Burrow played for an AAU team out of Chillicothe. I believe they practiced at Southeastern High School on Rt. 50 past Vinton County/McArthur.

There is the Ohio Valley Hidden Gems, which is in the Belpre/Marietta area.

Well played Mr. McKinney but, of course, you are showing your age with that one.

Saw him in the community center a few weeks ago raining threes and throwing down.  Of course he was being guarded by a 10-year old...
