Congrats to Jaaron! Couldn’t be more proud for the former bobcat for wanting more and receiving it! Never allow people to tell you what you can’t do, show them what you can. Good luck! Go Blue.

like most everyone else here I was disappointed Jaaron transferred when it was first announced, but that was kinda selfish of me.

turned out to be a great decision for the young man. I am very happy that he will be playing in national title game, something very few D1 players get to do.

good luck jaaron!

Can’t have this both ways, we welcome grad transfers, yet throw stones at those who leaves.
We really haven't had it both ways yet. There's two reasons for transferring.

1) Lack of playing time/coaching change
2) Wanting to play at a higher level

We have really only taken players from pool 1. The unwanted group. 2nd chance U. We have never poached a guy from a lower level. At least not that I can remember.

Weve benefitted with Grad transfers in football on a regular basis. Sorry, it is the same.

Yes, in fact we've benefited from Wolverines turned Bobcats.

He's going to step on the biggest stage college basketball has to offer tonight against the team that was arguably the best in the country tonight. I admit, I didn't watch either game on Saturday but was tracking the Michigan score on my phone. It seemed Jaaron's three was sort of the beginning of the Michigan run that overtook Loyola. I think they were down 9 when he made his three, and a run followed that won the game for the Blue.

Loyola's loss was the end of my interest in this tournament.

Michigan came back by really stepping up their defense and Loyola making a lot of mistakes because of it .

Loyola was also having all kinds of problems hitting threes.

Did he receive more though? His team certainly received more but I'm not sure if he had a chance to redo it he would. He might still choose to transfer to a bigger program but I'm guessing he was probably regretting the decision most of the season. He didn't transfer to Michigan to ride the pine and unless he has a really good game tonight he actually may have hurt his pro prospects with the move.

Your right, losing in the first round of the mac tournament is better than winning the big ten tournament and playing in the national championship game.

The question is what he would have done for himself. I believe he would have been MAC Player of the Year this season, and showcasing himself that way would certainly have drawn more scouting attention than averaging 5 minutes and sitting out about every other game at UM.

He can polish his ring all he wants, but his pro prospects certainly aren't better after a season on the bench than they would have been starring for OU.

And some of us can speculate about it all at want, but we're not in his shoes, haven't put in his work, and don't have his ring.

Time to move on.

This was a good run for Jaaron and Michigan. He almost rode the pine to a title. For some of us this was a moral runner up. We had a guy that left our team and went to the National Championship. Unlike Grunkemeyer leaving, we embraced this, this was our chance. If the announcer’s would have mentioned Ohio, they would have popped a bottle. If they would have mentioned Saul’s name, the moral seekers will have danced in the street. If Michigan would have won, we would have said they could not do it without Ohio. The Jaaron saga is now over, I wish he could have won one for himself and some of us. I hope he gets the same opportunity to play professionally. It is OUr time now, we can be Loyola, dream big, Go Cats

I will root for Simmons to dribble out the clock with his team down 2 with 6 seconds to play every chance I get. He doesn't wear our uniform anymore. Don't care.
That was the first Bobcat to make it to the Finals....oh well!

I could be mistaken but wasn't Mickle out of eligibility at his prior school? Simmons was not.

He wasn't out of eligibility. He just wasn't getting minutes and wasn't being counted on to score.

Actually, Ulice Payne not only made it to the final but got a national championship ring. He played one year at Ohio. Averaged 6.8 points his senior year at Marquette when they won it all.

His is quite a story:

9th round pick of the Pistons but didn't play in the NBA.

Law degree from the U. of London.

President and CEO of the Milwaukee Brewers.

First African-American to head up a major league franchise.

Ranked 14th by SI as one of top 101 most influential minorities in sports.

Currently managing member of Addison-Clifton, LLC, dealing with global trade.

Great post! Nice Run for Jaaron. Any senior would love to end their college basketball career on that note. Wishing Jaaron the best in whatever he decides to do.

We took Michigan players who weren't getting playing time, that's much different from poaching a team's star PG and giving him 5 mpg.
