You really have a way of putting things in perspective! ;-)

I have nothing against Mr.Simmons as a person.

I am one of the people who hoped that, from a basketball perspective,he didn't find success at Michigan.

As I posted before,I felt he "abandoned" O.U.,so why would I wish him any kind of success on the court someplace else ?

It is funny how all the comments here seem to be about whether his transfer was a positive or negative when it comes to basketball.

I thought the primary reason he transfered to Michigan was to pursue his Masters.
Do you also feel he "abandoned" Houston?

From what I've read,he left Houston after his freshman year "for personal reasons".
That could mean a lot of things, including not wanting to be so far from home.

He was an undergrad transfer,so he had to sit a year.

If,when he transferred to Michigan,he had to sit out a year,I would have looked at his leaving as any other transfer into or out of our program.

Same thing,if he was truly interested in Grad school,no hard feelings.
Academics comes first.

My problem is his using the Grad Transfer as a loophole.
I call it a loophole, because I don't anyone believes he did it for anything other then basketball.
But aren't there lots of players who only go to college because of basketball?

No question.

What's the old saying "two wrongs don't make a right".

Hopefully, the FBI investigation will bring down enough top coaches/programs to result in some kind of meaningful reforms.

Personally,I would love to see "one and done" go away.

Maybe then they'll have "student athletes" again.

Can’t have this both ways, we welcome grad transfers, yet throw stones at those who leaves.

I'm not looking to have it both ways.

I'm not in favor of Grad Transfers, unless they are truly interested in pursuing an advanced degree.

It would be interesting to know how many of our Grad Transfers stayed around after they completed their transfer year.

That, IMO, is the magic question. What is the percentage of those that actually finish the degree. Tying that number, like they do the APR, to availability of those scholarships would be a rule change I would support.

Seconded. If the player is transferring for truly academic reasons, then it should be tied to APR. Personally, from the time this rule came out, I've been an advocate of treating it just the way other transfers are treated: sit out a year then play. If it's for academic reasons, then they'll be close to completing that master's degree by the end of that final year because they say out.

Many, including myself, have explained in this thread that they are not mad at and certainly do not "hate" Simmons...but hoped for him to not succeed at Michigan, not for personal reasons but for the best interest of Ohio basketball. A star player at Ohio leaving for his senior year and leading a team to the final 4 and being a star is NOT a good precedent for future Bobcat stars. A star player leaving and not even getting 5 minutes a game at his new destination is an excellent precedent for future Bobcat stars and a great cautionary tale. It is as simple as that.

We really haven't had it both ways yet. There's two reasons for transferring.

1) Lack of playing time/coaching change
2) Wanting to play at a higher level

We have really only taken players from pool 1. The unwanted group. 2nd chance U. We have never poached a guy from a lower level. At least not that I can remember.

Saw this on another board.

Fits nicely here:

He did not leave for his senior year. He graduated which is the number one reason a student goes to college in the first place.

My bet is that Gonzaga and UK thought the same thing when their games started last night. 20 and 12 total seeding for two of the regional finals. Unbelievable!

Yes,he did get a degree.

The "value" of that degree has been discussed at length in earlier pages of this thread.

The "value" of a degree raises the same question that's also been discussed ad nauseam here.
Namely, why did you go to college in the first place.

In the case of a lot of of student athletes,it seems staying eligible and getting any degree is the goal.

Supposedly, after getting his degree,Jaaron went to Michigan to pursue a Masters Degree.
Would love to get a look at his graduate school transcript.

Why? Why do you care? He's no longer a Bobcat. I don't care if he makes it to the Final Four or more with Michigan. I don't like Michigan, so I'll root against Michigan, but my thoughts don't change because a player graduated from OU and transferred to spend his final year of eligibility at Michigan.

I voted indifferent on the poll, like most of the voters did. Some people chose to actively root for him. I think that's great too.

I don't like the term "haters", but the "haters" context on this board means people who don't want others to do well. People on this board have admitted that's how they feel about Simmons. And 17% of people voted to actively root against him. I don't agree with rooting for an individual to fail in this case, but you certainly are entitled to thinking however you want to.

For every story like Simmons, who transfers from a mid-major to a bigger school and ends up in the Final Four, there are many more stories about how a transfer didn't see the greener grass with the new school.

What I "care" about is whether his Grad Transfer was for legitimate academic reasons.
I suspect not.

I hope he has a great life, after Michigan.

However,I was one of the people who did root against him at Michigan.
I still feel he abandoned us,so why would I want to see him do well someplace else ?

That is the crux of the problem. And, it's one that we just have to deal with and get behind us. Student athlete ought to really mean something.

Did I hear one of the announcers, Raftery perhaps, say during the game tonight that Simmons isn't really a point guard and didn't play that position last year at Ohio? Or did I misunderstand what was actually said?

Gotta say he made a good decision because he gets to suit up in the national championship game, which is something that never would've happened at Ohio. But moving to Mich is probably not going to be the pathway to the NBA he hoped it would be. He's played a total of 250 minutes this season -- about a 100 fewer than he had four years ago at Houston. His 1.5 pts a game isn't going to turn heads. One thing that suiting up in April might do for him is get him an extra look or two from a scout, which may be what he wants. But he hasn't had many chances to dazzle anybody and doesn't seem to have taken advantage of the chances he had.
