Refresh my memory, didn't Drake do something to DESERVE to be fired? Was it something with the financial records, tampering, or something like that?
Yeah... I don't think you want him back. He stole roughly $6k from the university associated with the OZone..
If you actually believe that, I've got some oceanfront property in Amesville available for sale. It was a ridiculous fishing expedition by a rogue OUPD officer - and ended up being totally dismissed (more like laughed out of) court.

Drake is now in the consulting world for small/mid-major athletic departments and probably making 2 or 3 times what he did at OU (I'm a pretty good friend of his family).

He plead guilty to a class 3 felony. Not laughed out of court. Who’s making this stuff up? Check out the Athens News article. I just went back and reviwed the 7 page thread on this. There’s always more to the story and I’m glad he’s doing well. I’ll defer to all his friends who love the guy.

All I can say is don't believe the fake news. About the worst place for court-related reporting is the local paper. Anyone is welcome to search court records (or lack thereof): http://coc.athensoh.org/eservices /

50 minutes exactly from my house on the east side to the bridge. 25 minutes - you'd have to average 90 miles per hour to make the 37 mile trip.
+1...not sure how he's getting to McConnelsville that fast without a helicopter. Regardless, the BBQ is worth the drive. Hidden gem of a little town with no easy way to get there.

North and east of Athens. Great driving roads with good pavement, twist and crest then dive and do it again and again. Drive home is a bit more challenging when you're full.
You guys are quick to post without reading. NORTH and EAST. Corning to McConnelsville is not too much of a reach. I know people in Athens don't believe those of us out past The Plains exist but we live and eat, and appreciate good Barbecue. If you take the easy way on 37 or the fun way on 78 you will go less than 18 miles but you're gonna get there in about 25 minutes.

Please note when you drive State Route 78 you will be on the 78th Ohio Veteran Volunteer Infantry Memorial Highway. In my avatar you’ll see their regimental flag. I was able to get this designation for the highway a few years ago through the good offices of then-State Senator Troy Balderson. This highway passes through four of the five counties where men in the 78th OVVI lived. You can find out more about this regiment on my website: http://www.78ohio.org .

Not sure why there were deleted, I thought it was a fair question to always ask....if someone’s superiors know about alleged transgretions. I will leave you with this. Every athletic department in the country moves money from one pot to the other and often tries to get money into a pot they can spend. It’s why the bobcat club would rather have $1,000 donated to the annual fund than 2,000 for a scholarship. Discretionary spending makes the difference and moves a program forward.

Hey, I agree. I think I know you, and I am pretty sure you know me. If you know the situation, you know.

The biggest issue I have with Ohio Basketball right now is something that Schaus probably can't fix, and that is that the MAC has made the decision to play most of their conference games on Tuesday and Friday. When I was a student at Ohio back in the 90's (1989-92), all of the games were on Wednesday nights and Saturday afternoons.

I am heavily involved in high school basketball, so Tuesdays and Fridays are out for me. By my count, the Bobcats had only three home MAC games on Saturday this year. Our local high school team had a make-up game on one of those dates, and the weather was too bad on the other two. I guess it's sort of like basketball's version of MACtion, playing football games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Anything to keep otherwise interested people from attending...

Can we cut the BS on this?

Did Drake steal the money or not? I personally have a hard time believing he stole from Ohio but he did take a felony rap.

If he did not steal the money then what exactly happened?? Why was a real story or explanation never published outside of the A-News hit piece??

Why are posts being deleted???

Help. Please.

In what court?? The name Drake Bolon does NOT appear in either Athens Municipal court or Athens County Common Pleas court.

From my sources at the time. OUPD and Internal Audit found "accounting irregularities" . Bottom line he keep inadequate records on the O-Zone $$ spent on give a ways, free food and such.

Kangaroo Court. Entire situation was BS and concocted up by the rabid anti-athletics forces on campus. One theory is that OUPD wanted it to lead to Drake flipping on other things in athletics, but he opted to get out of Dodge instead.

Judging by the reaction tonight for him inside the Convo, no bad blood there at all. Lengthy and cordial conversation with Jim Schaus in the section over from me, with a big hug. We'll give him a pass for wearing some purple with his green, as HPU & Dan Hauser is a client.

I don't know Drake, I don't know the internal details of his situation when he left here. All I know is what I read here:

https://www.thepostathens.com/article/2017/07/drake-bolon...

And I also know that there's no chance in he**, for ME, I would ever plead guilty to a felony that I did not commit. But that's me.

I received the following email this morning from AD Jim Schaus, thought the Ohio Athletics email account. I'm sure many of you received the same thing:

I want to sincerely thank you for your past support of Ohio University men’s basketball as a ticket purchaser. I have long believed that the customer is always right and we need to ask and listen to our fans’ needs.

So I am asking you: How can we do better? I would appreciate your sharing areas where we need to improve, big or small. It’s your chance to directly let me know how you feel. Also, please feel free to share the things that you like so we can make sure we keep doing them.

Please e-mail me with your thoughts. The following is my direct e-mail and it is one that I review and respond to daily (mailto:schaus@ohio.edu ). I appreciate your taking the time to write because I want the fan experience for Ohio men’s basketball to be the very best one for you, our fan. I will then review all the comments with my staff and attempt to address as many as possible beginning next season.

Thanks again for your time and support. I am confident that the future of Ohio men’s basketball is bright! Go Bobcats!

I got this one but not the original.

I wanted to reach out to thank those who have provided me with input in regards to our men’s basketball game experience. The ideas, complaints and compliments are very valuable and will help us provide you, our valued fan, with a better game day experience.

For those that may have missed my first email, or maybe had not yet replied back, it’s not too late. Please feel free to let me know how we can do better. I got that one too, and I haven't had season tickets in a couple of years. It must have been blasted out to a larger email list than the original.

Here's what I just wrote to Jim:

Hello Mr. Schaus,

I saw that you are soliciting ideas towards improving the spectator experience at men's basketball games. I am not a season ticket holder as I am an alumnus living in Cincinnati. With two very young children, it is not the easiest to get to Athens consistently for games. We attended the home game this past season against Marshall. Prior to that, my last visit to the Convo was the 2016 season opener against Southern.

I am a basketball junkie at heart. I'll take my son to Xavier and Cincinnati games if it works out. I love watching basketball as close to the action as possible, but during my last two visits to the Convo, I sat in the 200s section vs Marshall and in a 100 section vs Southern with tickets bought secondhand. I would gladly pay a premium price to sit in a 100 section or one of the sections immediately behind the benches/scorer's table. When I try to purchase single game tickets through the athletics website, these sections are never available. I think you want to reserve these for season ticket buyers, but given how many of those seats are visibly unoccupied during games, it's hard to believe those sections are truly sold out.

If a 200 level single game ticket costs $15, I think the following prices are fair for 100 level seats on a single game basis:

Sections 105-100, 115-120: $20
Sections 101-104: $30
Sections 1-4: $40

These prices still make season tickets in those sections the better deal, but it also makes those sections available to people like me. In both games I mentioned above, your department has missed out on my money.

Thank you for your consideration. Congratulations on the Boals hire as well. I'm excited for the future of this program.
