This bench arrrangement where the players on the bench can actually get into the game is a positive byproduct of Covid.
First complete athletic contest I've watched since things got shut down in March. This reminded me so much of sitting in the arena in STL back in 2012. Watching this game today one thing really stuck out - TEAM. When you get outrebounded by 25 and shoot 15 fewer free throws and only lose by 2, something had to go right. It was a TEAM effort.
Sad that we'll have to hope to watch some of these games on TV this year because this could very well be a very fun year. And, it's great to see a true big man on the floor. And finally, that Jason Preston story was intriguing and as the announcers said, one worth repeating.
[/QUOTE]Excellent observations, Alan. I thought the same thing about the rebounding and free throw advantage in the Illinois game, as well as the team effort. Our guys just kept playing and gave themselves a chance to earn a win against an excellent opponent. It does compare to the NCAA tournament game in 2012 that you reference and what happened late in that 2011-12 season.
There's a lot of season left and much can happen on and off the court -- some of it out of the control of those in the program. But, this team feels like one that has a high ceiling and the hunger to see where they can take it. This is fun.
