1st half shows our 7-8 man rotation can play - bodes well for the MAC

Also just ordered one of Coach Boals' shirts:

We are playing well and they are having a cold shooting performance, several looks I thought were certain to go in with a team this good. Let's take advantage. Let's go Cats.

I think many of us thought keeping it close would feel like a win but when it was THAT close it was still disappointing. I think we have a MAC contender though. Too bad nobody will be in attendance to watch.

At least we beat the spread.

This could be one heck of a year. This was on Illinois home court.

Tremendous effort. Didn't think I'd be in a position to be disappointed, but I am because it was winnable. Great job of coaching and playing. The Illini know they were in a battle.

We had 7 turnovers for the game against #8. Not bad.

We had this one. Outplayed them. A shame we could not stop the dribble at the end of the game. They seem to get every loose ball, call and offensive rebound late. Sitting here gutted but what a performance. Another reminder that to win games against top 10 teams you have to make free throws. And another reminder why Jeff Boals should’ve been the guy after Jim Christian.

Lot of good things to take from this game. Moving forward, we need to find another scorer to go with JP and BVP. McDay led the team in scoring the first game and Roderick the second game. Today they combined for 9 points. Would like to see more consistency from the 2 sophs. I'm sure the #8 rated team in the country had something to do with that.

Wow.

Wilson looks like a great addition and Preston continues to look like NBA material.

I flashed back to OUr win over Michigan in 2012. It was watched by me in a cabin in the Smokies and I was just a tad more inebriated than I am now.

A hard fought loss. Coach Boals is the real deal and MAC teams should be a little worried.

You’re right. But let’s not focus on what should’ve been. This team is for real. Presto just played an NBA lottery pick toe to toe. Stay positive and test negative boys!!

Not sure about end of game defense. No hack a Shaq on Cockburn? Giving Dosunmu a rim run? Only goal with 7 seconds left should be make Illinois hit a jump shot to beat you. Also, we had no plan for 1 second left and ball at half court.

Absolutely. Preston was the best player on the floor. BVP was 3rd. We lost 4 to 6 but we are built to compete in MAC. The only thing I wonder is would Miguel's size and power have been a welcome addition instead of Foster?

Miguel maybe....but Foster needs to get some PT for next year.

I like the use of 9 or so against the a top 10 team and they held their own. Didn’t have the depth last year but it seems to be there now and for the years to come.

Now we need to root for Illinois and ND women in every game to get max credit for these games today at tourney time. Too many times what seems like a big game result early in the season ends up being not much when the P5 team craps the bed later on.

No complaints about Preston today, just an observation. Did anyone else notice when he was slowing the game down and walking the ball up the court how many times the shot clock was just about at 20 as he was crossing half court?

3rd game in 3 days and they were bigger, faster and stronger. I thought it was a smart move to keep them from getting us in a track meet. The funny thing is I didn't think Preston looked like he was gassed at all today except when they kept the camera on him going into a timeout with about three minutes left. He's going to sleep hard when they get back to Athens.

Vander Plas played 39 minutes. Preston played 37. Every starter played at least 30.

By the way, lost in Jason Preston stealing everyone's thunder is Dwight Wilson's performance. We get trucked today if he doesn't play. He is just what the doctor ordered IMO.

I agree with others on the board about Wilson.
He is the missing piece for a great run this year.

They brought up him just gaining eligibility during the broadcast and it’s hard to imagine this team without him. Preston and Vander Plas both had very nice dishes to him and he finished all of them.

Entertaining to see the announcers call out the gray officiating.
A few soft calls seem to be going one way right now but other than that, I’m happy
