This is awful. I was a huge critic of Saul so I feel I have to say it: Boals is done here. He has lived off of JP and BVP long enough. No player development in all of his years. He runs a black hole offense when the ball is lost. Letting Hadaway be a point forward shows Boals is inept. Not playing JJ Kelly 35 mins a game is malpractice. Starting Ajay is awful. Not running offense with Elliott...the list goes on. We need a clean break. How has Bethune Cookman outrecruited us? We have 2 guys who can create their own shots. Buh-bye Boals. Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat but you gots to go.

Kelly > Elliot

I know EE has been injured, but it feels like Kelly does a lot of the same things better, and can shoot.
I agree Kelly is better but he missed a couple of gimmes.
Kelly+elliott>sheldon and Hadaway. I like Captain Chaos but dude thinks he is All-League when he is clearly a role player. And don't come at me with his double-double. I love the guy but he has made key errors in big situations. Kelly and Elliott are our only 2 guys with Pavs who could play for Louisville. Let that sink in.

We gave it a shot, had our best 3 point shooter in for the final possession and was able to get a 3 off. Just didn’t bounce in, wasn’t OUr nite.

Love your optimism but IT WAS A SWAC TEAM! How far have we fallen where moral victories are a thing with a SWAC team? I will forgive the no show in our 3 losses (I guess). But the frigging SWAC!!! Someone tell me why Boals should still have a job tomorrow.

2 for 17 says it all. Tied with 4 minutes to go and only score 4 more points.

Well, don't look ahead at the next 4 games. The tough non-con schedule continues. Hopefully we can win maybe one of them.

I'll say this: whoever is our head coach, until we give them the proper resources, we ain't changing jack and these results will run rampant until we do so.

It's tough to have development happening when we have one court for our men's and women's basketball teams, volleyball, wrestling, cheer, dance, and whatever other teams can't get in over at Walter Fieldhouse. Whatever our next move is has to have a commitment of us building a practice facility for men's and women's basketball that campus rec DOES NOT control. In addition, we cannot get kicked out every March for the OHSAA Tournament......

Our NIL strategy can't be collect a bunch of money, and hope we hit on guys. We need to be building long-term and self-sustaining NIL funds for when schools can't pay their players. We already know as a school our donor base doesn't have it in them to pony up as needed. The fact we throw money at whoever with zero rhyme and reason is bad enough if you have money. When we're chasing other schools in the league in this regard on a smaller budget, you better be evaluating right and not getting into pissing matches with other schools just because you can. With that, either we gotta get smarter with NIL, or build the facilities that allow for development. And if this question involves Boals being the guy or not, we better ask ourselves if any other coach would have better chances......

For those of you who say we have the best arena and everything else.....baloney. Our arena is what is holding us back financially. We don't have suites, we don't have premium loges like other schools, and every year we house another university department in the Convo is another year of potential revenues gone. Getting the department into a new building where they all work would be a huge upgrade in terms of allowing us to build different spaces in the Convo. The fact that the Rohr Room was our "donor" room for many years is absurd. If we're going to build an Ohio for the future, it needs to start now in evaluating every facet, because we can't rely on "our arena being the best" or our fanbase "being passionate." It's time to build the resources necessary to win, and unfortunately it's going to have to come as a master plan, not a nickel and dime special that milks us every six months for the next "capital project".....

YES THIS WAS A SWAC TEAM...

But NIL or whatever, along with a former NBA player and coach, cobbled together what is essentially a MAC-caliber roster complete with several former solid MAC players.

This game had trouble written all over it when the schedule was announced. This was a 'program' game. No matter what, at home, a good program wins this game by hook or by crook.

Didn't get the shot to drop at the end. I get it. That's basketball. But a tie game late on your home court; a good program, you close the bitch out and go home.

Didn't do it.

Look at the box score: Every BC player that played, except one, shot 50-percent or better from the floor. That tells me a lot. I don't know about you.

Is this the worst non conference home loss in the last 20 years. Maybe ever?

Not even close. Should have won this game, but that team is about the level of a Toledo or UMass.

Winthrop with Jim Christian and the Sweet 16 team…worst one I can remember in 15 years following the team

I know nobody likes losing at home to a SWAC team, but my feeling is that we probably win this if Breath is healthy, and I was pretty heartened to see Boals move away from Sheldon and go with Pavs/Kelly/Elliot/Hadaway/Simmons.

And if we have two wings that are completely unwilling to shoot from outside, we may as well start testing a Pavs/Kelly or Elliot/Hadaway/Simmons/Breath option,
too.

I'm fine losing tough games to good teams, provided we're trying to find our best lineups and trying new things.

Yep, last year we were a bottom 10 team defending the 3, but basically an average one shooting it.

We're still a bad team defending the three, and this year we're going to be a bottom 10% team shooting the three.

At this point, we know what the roster is shooting-wise. May as well go big with Hadaway at the 3 when Breath is back.

I'm not sure you're aware, but that wasn't our typical SWAC team. Not that I think losing at home for a game like that is okay, but that's a team that we could see playing in March as SWAC champs.

Has any returning Bobcat, other than Pav, shown any improvement since last season?

After going 0-for-4 from 3 in the season opener, Pav has made 8 of 17 (47%) in the next 4 games. As a team (minus Pav), Ohio is shooting 21% (18-84) from 3. Who do you feel comfortable with when getting the ball outside the arc?

How about free throw shooting? Pav is 28 of 35 (80%), rest of the team is 47 of 75 (63%). How many points did Ohio leave at the foul line in tonight's 3-point loss v. BC? And I consider missing the front end of a 1-and-1 as leaving 2 points at the line.

What returning Bobcat player has shown an improved game through the first five games compared to last season? Whose game has degraded or been stagnant?

True. Basically, a layup missed and a 5-footer. He's still super nervous on the offensive end, passed up a wide open 3 that Marty mentioned.

Apparently, you don't follow other conferences. I imagine plenty of opponents say, "we're playing a crappy team from the MAC". I watched B-C play Dayton, and I penciled this in as a Loss of the Bobcats. B-C players more athletic. I hope Simmons improves but his vertical jump is like 3 inches.

This is exactly why you play a tough schedule. Remember, 1 BID LEAGUE.

Better to know now what needs to be fixed and who needs to play, instead of looking up the first of Feb. and saying ... 'we need to make some changes.'

This rough start will be forgotten if this team is a Top 4 MAC team/contender by the end of January.

Do you want to be a 23-10 team and leaving Cleveland the first night, or 18-15 with confetti falling in Gund Arena.

Your choice.
