Yes, does seem like a very balanced and objective analysis. Thanks for posting. Should be a good game. Go OHIO!
Agreed. Good stuff. Arkley mentioned the same thing the other day about Sears’ emergence allowing Preston to play off-the-ball. Interesting.
That has been huge! As well as games using the 3 guards in Preston, Brown and Sears.
Three guards - one could make the point that at times we've used 5 including McDay and Roderick.
I wonder if it’s possible that at some point in the game Boals would consider a four guard option plus Vander Plas or Wilson, if one of them get into foul trouble; maybe even five guards for a different look or to help protect them? I think it could be argued that with Virginia’s outside shooting and inside advantage anyway, this might be an effective approach. And what about White? Although he didn’t play that much, his outside shooting was impressive when he did. Thoughts?

I don't know if you guys have been over to the Virginia board or not but this may be the first time in history we've played a P6 school that their fanbase didn't just completely dismiss us out of hand.

Edit: I would like to add that I loathe the format of their board.

If I’m not mistaken their academics has a fine reputation. I think they are just intelligent like Ohio alums. ;)

Seriously, that position has to be the wise one no matter how the game turns out. If even remotely interested fans of all teams haven’t figured out by now that upsets happen with some frequency (with the notable exception of 1 vs 16) in the tournament, one has to question “what’s going on up there”.

If it’s bravado or trying to agitate others, that’s admittedly different. Then, they need to (reluctantly) need to be given a pass.

Might also have to do with the fact that they are in the same conference as Duke and UNC and they know how it feels to be overlooked even when they are better than those two.

I think they’ve had some notable disappointments in the tournament over many years too with the huge exception of their national title two years ago. Im sure that was especially sweet for them.

Yeah when you get blown out by a 16 seed, I think the fan base won't take anyone lightly for a long time.

Very true although the Georgetown fans that I know still manage it.

I think that we lead the overall series and won the most significant matchup in the preseason NIT.

New Elton Alexander piece on the seclusion of Athens, featuring Lunden McDay: https://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/2021/03/champion... .

Outside of some parks, I'm not sure that there are any unpaved roads left in the Athens area. I remember a few around Shade back in the day, but I'm sure they've had at least one coat of asphalt since then.

Yep, one Virginia win split the two wins we have.

Also, I discovered we're 7-0 ATS vs the ACC.

Have not paid attention to names of who is on the games at Bloomington tonight but they have been atrocious. Hope they are not calling OUrs. I like the PBP all right but the analyst and the third guy are not good at all.

Allie is up at Laffy. Did a good job on the Drake game with sideline in game comments. Girl knows the game.

That's Avery Johnson doing color.

You should have heard the color commentary in last night's Toledo/Richmond game. Guy sounded like he was on heroin.

I did hear that. Figured the NIT got the B teams. I guess I have never heard Avery talk. I expect better commentary out of him. He has a pretty good basketball mind from what you can see from afar. Just does not seem to vocalize it well

What does a guy on heroin sound like? I can only think of Trainspotting and the accents are getting in the way.

For those that like flying under the radar, ESPN says there’s at least 50 players better than Preston in the tournament. (Could be true. I don’t know, as I haven’t watched all the other players.).

You get out there in places like Amesville, Glouster, heading west into Vinton, you'll find some. I doubt that's what Elton was thinking of.
