Yes, does seem like a very balanced and objective analysis. Thanks for posting. Should be a good game. Go OHIO!

Thanks for sharing. Very interesting analysis. I do think the Virginia layoff and possible impact on them may be somewhat overblown. As someone alluded to in another thread, our situation entering the MAC Tournament was very similar to Virginia. 12 days to the first round game with Kent State and we throttled them by 22. A few weeks earlier, after 21 days off, we beat Akron by 17 in our first game back. I could not help but think we had a “little extra bounce in our step” and basketball was fresh again.

Now, if a key player or two for the Cavaliers are unavailable, I think that’s a totally different story.

They put him too low. I don't want to hear about D-III heroes in the top 20.

I remember being at Neyland Stadium talking to Vol fans who had no idea that our enrollment was in the same ballpark as smaller SEC schools.

I’m guessing ACC fans are similarly in the dark.
And even Big 14 fans. When we played Penn State I was in the Penn State season ticket section having gotten tickets from a PSU booster. I was sitting behind two elderly (anyone older than me) ladies who probably sat there for years. It was directly across from OUr section and at one point as the cheering intensified I heard one of them say,
"You can actually hear them!" as if it were unusual. A proud Bobcat moment I'll never forget.

Reminds me when I was down state at the Ohio-Pitt game in 2002 when a fan commented that he didn't know we were D1 so when I politely shared our status his response was "Oh, I didn't know you moved up."

No new Covid positives for Virginia. But the only practice they may have prior to the game is Saturday morning walk around.

Putting up 70 pts might be a major accomplishment for Ohio. UVA gave up more than 70 just twice this season, 98 by Gonzaga and 81 by FSU, both were losses. Getting to 70 will also be important for us. We scored less than 70 just twice, 67 vs T'erd and 66 vs Buffalo, both losses. Actually, 76 is our number; we didn't win a game where we scored 75 pts or less.

To get there we'll probably need to hit threes because of their size. We match up pretty on this; we average 36% on offense and UVA averages 34% on defense.

The Nashville resident who sat next to me in our 2005 NCAA tournament game, at midcourt just a few rows up where most people sit on their hands, turned to the group of us cheering of heads off and said, “You guys are fun. I’m rooting for you guys.” As we got closer and closer to the Gators he started jumping to his feet with every made basket and laughed his head off with every Ohio cheer post SUAC.

Its the little moments the bluebloods never get to experience, this weird giddy feeling of walking into an arena where no one has any idea what you’re capable of and winning over room. It can’t really happen this year, which stinks.

Agreed. Good stuff. Arkley mentioned the same thing the other day about Sears’ emergence allowing Preston to play off-the-ball. Interesting.

I’m an optimist. However, I feel upsets are much less likely this year. As has been mentioned in this post, there’s something about tourney games when you feel the crowd turning against the favorite. It’s something you don’t experience often during the regular season. But in postseason, with the pressure on, the crowd influences the outcome. This year, the crowd won’t be able to have the same impact. I’m afraid this is the year chalk carries the day.

That has been huge! As well as games using the 3 guards in Preston, Brown and Sears.

On the other hand, there’s been far less cross/conference games, so there’s not as much to go by when figuring which teams are the best. Now The Zags have beaten the ranked teams it played so that’s a good indication of how really good they are. For the most part the teams have played and beat up on their own conference opponents. I reckon there’ll be some upsets, maybe even some 1, 2 and 3’s not getting into the sweet 16 as there usually are.

CTB #5!
As a 5'11" point guard, Bennett ranks first in NCAA history for career three-point field goal accuracy at 49.7%, shooting above 50% from range in both his junior and senior seasons.

Gotta feeling that whatever crowd there might at IU, most will be cheering for us as the underdog. Also, as we saw during the Illinois game, the bench can be a huge substitute for a noisy crowd. We should have quite a few more on our bench than UVA will have.

Was thinking the same thing. By the way, was just noticing that Gonzaga has already played and beaten the #2, #3 and #4 seeds in our region, all by double digits.

Three guards - one could make the point that at times we've used 5 including McDay and Roderick.

Bench was also fantastic during MAC Tourney finals, very loud and engaged especially encouraging defensive intensity. They would make great O-Zone members!
