You're talking to a group of people who primarily grew up in Ohio.

Just went through USAT's story where some of their sportswriters, including one from the Cincy Enquirer, picked their upsets in the first round. Not one chose Ohio to beat UVA. It upset me a little bit, but it might be a good thing. Maybe the fewer people who think our guys can win, the bigger the chip will be on their shoulders. I think that helped vs Georgetown in 2010. That, and JTIII not even bothering to check us out in practice the day before the tourney.

Compare that to ESPN, where you'd think Andy Katz has a personal friendship with our coach or something.

Andy “Noooo Chance!” Katz.

One of my favorite postseason memories.

Thanks for posting, some good info in there including going straight to Indy from Cleveland and asking to postpone arrival covid testing as each player would then have to immediately quarantine alone in their room (each team has their own floor of hotel and each player their own room) and they couldn't watch selection sunday together. Boals got permission to delay the testing a bit so they could have that experience together. McAlister talks Illinois game as well as Cleveland State game and 40-0 run. And of course Preston.

Oh,man,if I were the NCAA, I would be in a tremendous hurry to get this tournament started and then finished. The continued Covid situation could really make things interesting. Could you imagine if Gonzaga, Illinois, or any other top seed is unfortunate enough to have players test positive before the start or end of this tournament? Go, 'Cats, but be safe out there, gentlemen.

From Axios Sports:

"Over 2,000 student-athletes, coaches, trainers and support staff members will wake up this morning in the Indianapolis bubble.

The state of play: The 34 Tier 1 individuals who are part of each team's travel party were tested upon arrival. They're required to quarantine for two days and have two consecutive negative tests.

Daily PCR tests will be administered to each team until departure, and all Tier 1 participants must wear a "SafeTag" contract-tracing device.

Missing team: Most of Virginia's roster will be in quarantine until Thursday, so the plan for the Cavaliers is to arrive on Friday."

Sorry if I missed it, but does anyone know when Ohio will play Monday after winning Saturday? Hoping for a start later than 3 p.m.

Hello, Wahoo fan here.
You'll find our most trafficked message board Virginia.sportswar.com (historically known as TheSabre) is actually really worried about your team.
There are few voices on there trying to calm the rest of the worriers. However, when you sign on to become a Wahoo fan you become a compulsive worrier (that's what happens when you're in a conference historically with UNC and Duke).
Why do they still make message boards where you have to expand every comment individually to read them?

Because of the need for covid testing prior to games the First Four will be Thursday instead of the usual Tuesday-Wednesday. That pushed the first round games back a day to Friday-Saturday instead of Thursday-Friday. So that makes the second round Sunday-Monday instead of Saturday-Sunday. They always give teams a day between rounds to practice and for TV scheduling purposes.

Curious who you all see matching up with our guys on the defensive end of the court?

Huff checked by Wilson is obvious...
Vander Plas on Hauser?
Who takes our long wing Murphy? Roderick?
Does Preston guard Kihei or Beekman?

Can we expect any zone? Generally not a good idea versus Virginia given our shooting ability.

McDay is our best perimeter defender and would probably guard your best wing, whomever that is. BVP on Hauser is probably a definite and should be a good matchup of two Wisconsin boys. I imagine this isn't the first time they've played each other.

Boals will switch up the defenses throughout, I think. Will be curious to see if we try to push tempo at all and pressure the ball in the backcourt.

McDay should guard Murphy even if he gives up half a foot. We're going to need Roderick's scoring to show up, and if he gets in foul trouble against a player who physically outmatches him, it could be a wrap. Remember the first Kent State game? I think a key development to that was the 6'7'' 230 lb Tervell Beck going right at him and forcing Ben to the bench.

Sorry. I wasn't quite awake. It'll probably depend on the matchups for the Monday games. The networks will want the best matchups for prime time and have west coast teams play later. There'll be four games at each of four venues with the first games at noon, so the odds are 3 to 1 in favor of a late afternoon or night game.

I don't know what this means for our chances but a UVa fan just posted one of the best posts I've seen.

Since 2014 through current 2021 games played, Tony is:

42-8 vs birds
34-2 vs cats
15-4 vs canines
1-0 vs colors (double Tony!)
10-1 vs insects
16-2 vs other mammals
83-20 vs peoples groups
3-2 vs reptiles
5-8 vs supernatural beings
2-0 vs trees
8-2 vs weather systems

It’s a small sample size, but I like our chances against Ohio State in the final.
