McDay should guard Murphy even if he gives up half a foot. We're going to need Roderick's scoring to show up, and if he gets in foul trouble against a player who physically outmatches him, it could be a wrap. Remember the first Kent State game? I think a key development to that was the 6'7'' 230 lb Tervell Beck going right at him and forcing Ben to the bench.
They aren't really an attack the rim kind of team. They go the line even less than we do. Huff would be the big risk to get anyone in foul trouble IMO. But they played one more game than we did and shot 140 fewer free throws than we did and we don't get to the line a ton.

I don't know what this means for our chances but a UVa fan just posted one of the best posts I've seen.

Since 2014 through current 2021 games played, Tony is:

42-8 vs birds
34-2 vs cats
15-4 vs canines
1-0 vs colors (double Tony!)
10-1 vs insects
16-2 vs other mammals
83-20 vs peoples groups
3-2 vs reptiles
5-8 vs supernatural beings
2-0 vs trees
8-2 vs weather systems

It’s a small sample size, but I like our chances against Ohio State in the final.
I suppose Hokies and Hoosiers are "peoples groups" like Fighting Irish. Orange must be classified as such as well because surely they played them more than once. I suppose a Buckeye is a tree and not "Someone from Ohio".

A Rocket can't be anything up there. There needs to be a "physical objects" category. What is a Zip? People from Akron or something else like "Power Words". Then is a Golden Flash a bird, a power word, or someone from Kent?

Honestly, just just sad that you guys had to banish or de-platform your Pep Band & Chowder Emporium or whatever it was termed, that would do insulting things at football games.

Liked the entertainment value.

I saw a comment on the UVA board suggesting Ohio wouldn't have brought many fans to the game even in a normal year... They've got no idea the advantage they've gained by removing the Marching 110 from the equation.

Didn't we have about as many fans as UNC, Kansas & NC St. at the sweet 16 in 2012?

I don't know about that but I distinctly remember NC State and Kansas fans joining the loud contingent of Ohio fans once the UNC lead evaporated. Nick Kellogg's 3 to put Ohio up by one was especially loud.

Thanks to the magic of Timehop, I can tell you that the day before the Michigan game in 2012, the Ohio athletics Twitter account shared that the arena ticket office in Nashville said OU had sold the most tickets of any team playing there that weekend. Other teams in town included Florida, Texas and Cincinnati.

Bobcats get some first round love from The Ringer.

PS. I do not love being everyone's "wise-guy" selection. Seems as if all of the experts and prognosticators are picking Ohio as most likely to upset the first round. Better to sneak up on teams. IMHO. With that said, love the respect and publicity the team is getting.

I was there. Id say we were 25% of the attendees. Unscientific but thats my recollection.

I remember being at Neyland Stadium talking to Vol fans who had no idea that our enrollment was in the same ballpark as smaller SEC schools.

I’m guessing ACC fans are similarly in the dark.

I was sitting across from those fans and the Bobcat fans at that game. With each comeback basket, the interest level and fan participation got louder and louder. It was really fun to watch from half court.

I was in the upper deck of the Ohio section and from my recollection we were the 2nd largest fanbase behind the mass of Kansas fans. It helped that the entire Ohio section was standing and we had the 110 behind the basket playing Stand Up and Cheer at every timeout.

Despite the fact that we ultimately lost, I have very fond memories of that game. I'll never forget seeing the mass of Kansas fans jumping to their feet with every 3 we hit during our 2nd half comeback.

For this game only perhaps we might consider adding an “supernatural aka” to Bobcats. I’d recommend Supermen or Batmen. Spider Man would seem a little shaky. :)

A lot of people have no idea that there are many mid-major type schools that have quite a large enrollment and lots of high-major P5 schools with lower enrollments.

I read something in the Cincinnati Enquirer when UC was pushing hard for a Big 12 invite a few years ago that said they would have been one of the largest schools in the conference for student enrollment.

Unfortunately the landscape of NCAA D1 has a lot to do with what was put in place about 50-75-100 years ago and the struggle to overcome it since for those not at the head table.

Good point. I’ve always cringed at the term “large schools” when used in an athletics context.

I recall from the MAC's own TV commercials in the mid-nineties that the MAC was the third highest conference in total enrollment at the time (behind only the Big Ten and Big XII). I doubt that this is the case anymore as most high-major conferences have 14 teams and the industrial midwest has been the slowest growing region of the country in the interim. I'd still bet that it is sixth or seventh.
