Looks to me like they are going to be the tallest team in the league. I believe now I've counted new dudes there at 6'10', 6'9" and now 6'8". I'll bet none of these guys are major level projects, either. The rest of the league will need to catch up, or it's going to be a runaway for UMass next season.

The backcourt additions brought in between the Top 100 JUCO, the D2 kid (took a visit to WVU), and the UMBC kid are also solid.

Dimitri Clerc - 6'10
Bettiol - 6'8
Charles Outlaw - 6'9
Daniel Hankins-Sanford - 6-8 (averaged 10ppg and 7rpg for UMass)
Dwayne Wimbley - 6'6/6'7

I think our shooters will figure themselves out. Having Simmons, Breath, and Hadaway to lead the size charge is going to be important. Hopefully, Kuany and Evans can help us extend that depth.

Didn't we finally concluded on here by looking at some photos of teammates together that Kuany is actually, really, without a doubt, 6-9?

No. Camera angle. Unless some of the other guys are like 4-foot-7.

One of the instagrams had a picture of Burris standing between Evans and Kuany. Kuany was considerably taller than Burris, and a smidge shorter than Evans. And based on the official team photo, Evans appeared to be the actual tallest on the team.

FWIW, one analytics site has Ohio’s incoming transfer class as tops in the MAC, and the #23 mid-major in the country: https://x.com/evanmiya/status/1917615123310457060?s=46

I was just about to post this. Honestly, pretty cool company for us to be in. Especially as the only MAC school. Evan Miyakawa is very credible in the CBB space.

Was that list compiled before Frank Martin grabbed some more guys for UMass?

He had some good players at South Carolina when it was not considered a glamorous place to play basketball compared to others in the heart of ACC/SEC territory.

This list would have had to been finalized in the last 24 hours, since UCSB has Aidan Mahaney included. He just committed yesterday.

I don't know who Evan Miya is, except that his site's the only place I've been able to find mid-major lineup data that's any good.

How does our incoming freshman class rate amongst mid majors? (in the MAC and nationally)

FWIW ... it seems UMass did most of its recruiting in the juco ranks. Kent still seems to be working HS kids. Those are the two teams that seem to have multiple starting spots to fill.

Rivals has a top 100 list for incoming freshman (not transfers), and we didn’t crack it. UMass at 74 and Kent tied at 88: https://n.rivals.com/team_rankings/2025/all-teams/basketball

247 lists more, but I couldn’t find us on it either. UMass at 60, Kent 105: https://247sports.com/season/2025-basketball/compositetea... /

247 seems a bit irrelevant for most mid-majors as it only takes into account 3+ star players, and just gives everyone a score of 0 if you don’t have any. Rivals at least has a composite score that seems to take into account all recruits & size of class.

I'm not familiar with UMass recruiting ... but Kent's freshman list does not look all that special to me.

That Rivals list is interesting with only Kent and UMass listed. Thanks for posting. I've been watching UMass recruiting and to me, and I'm no expert, they look the strongest. I've been particularly impressed with what appears to be three quality BigMANZ. If I had to predict now, I'd say their basketball team will be the favorite to win the MAC, and if they blow through most of MAC schedule, and someone beats them in the MAC tournament, we could have two bids for the first time this century. In short, I expect their basketball team to be as good as their football squad is horrible.

I do agree that UMass has added some great talent through the portal. Good size and production that should translate onto good MAC players. However, thinking that UMass is anywhere close to being an at large team seems unrealistic.

Go Bobcats!

New Ohio transfer commit - Carter Reese from Ohio Northern. 6'3" guard with two years eligibility. Averaged around 14 ppg with a balance between threes and twos. 38.5% from three.

Interesting. So I guess that's the Estis roster spot, right?

I wish the best for Reese. What a college landscape we have to enjoy. Florida takes our guy and we counter into the D-III ranks. Should be even.

Don't forget the guy who started for a team that embarrassed us in our building.

This has to be tongue-in-cheek, right? I agree the portal era sucks but this is actually where we’re at:

Brown for Simmons (best players gained/lost)
James for Breath (2nd best)
Nicol for Conners (3rd)
Estis for Reese (4th, presumably walk-ons)

Pretty safe to say we upgraded the roster this season, both with balancing the positions and overall talent.

It's been said a dozen times, but I agree. Losing AJB will hurt some nights, but our roster is FAR more balanced, and we shouldn't have to rely on any one shooter getting hot.

Big fan of this roster on paper, I think it's gonna be night and day to last season - in a good way.
