Solid grab for Kent — UNLV’s Rob Whaley. 6’7 — averaged 8ppg and 4rpg this past season.

I wish the best for Reese. What a college landscape we have to enjoy. Florida takes our guy and we counter into the D-III ranks. Should be even.
This has to be tongue-in-cheek, right? I agree the portal era sucks but this is actually where we’re at:

Brown for Simmons (best players gained/lost)
James for Breath (2nd best)
Nicol for Conners (3rd)
Estis for Reese (4th, presumably walk-ons)

Pretty safe to say we upgraded the roster this season, both with balancing the positions and overall talent.
It's been said a dozen times, but I agree. Losing AJB will hurt some nights, but our roster is FAR more balanced, and we shouldn't have to rely on any one shooter getting hot.

Big fan of this roster on paper, I think it's gonna be night and day to last season - in a good way.
Second this. We just completed such a draining season. Running back a similar combination would have just led to similar results. Being able to revamp a roster in an offseason is the plus side of the portal.

We had 13 scholarships accounted for prior to the Reece Carter commitment. He is either a 14th scholarship or a walk-on and I consider 13 scholarships more than enough to field a deep basketball team. So I don't look at Reece as taking away someone else's spot on the team.

If anything, it seems like prepping for the following year after we lose Pav, Sheldon, and Conners and our guard rotation otherwise is Elliott, Burris, McKinney, freshman/transfer TBD.

BTW, Estis graduated. I wouldn't read into anything about him entering the portal.

I think we can have 15 scholarship players. Reese would make 14. And it doesn't hurt to have competition in practice either. I love the makeup of this team. To add a 700-point scorer from D-2 where Boals has had some success recruiting (Schmock, Vic) is fantastic. Dude won't be intimidated.

FWIW, next year's roster will have the following from the Central Ohio area:

Carter Reese (Westerville North)
Javan Simmons (Gahanna Lincoln)
Jordan Fisher (Reynoldsburg)
Dior Conners (Pickerington North)
Ajay Sheldon (Dublin Coffman)
Jeese Burris (Delaware Hayes)

We add two more in 2026 with McKinney and Bowens.

Somebody ping Zach Fleer at 270Hoops.

I have a hard time believing Reese is on scholarship.

Agree that Carter seems like more of a walk-on candidate.

I think the rule is you can have 15 players on the roster ... it does not say all 15 on scholarship.

I believe, ... but not 100-percent sure.

You can offer up to 15 scholarships with a max roster size of 15. Also new is now you can split scholarships in what was once considered a “Head Count” sport.

+1

That’s my understanding too. So with 2 scholarships / 2 roster spots remaining Reese could be any of a walk-on, partial-scholarship, or full-scholarship.

And he's a bit generous with his returning starters stat.

Two of his 3 returning starters for BG combined for 11 total starts in 2024-25, Towns with 6 and Khayat with 5.

Elmore James to Ball State. Is this our first transfer to a MAC school since Grunk?

nvm, forgot about Sam Towns, which is an honest mistake.

Better than him going to Akron or Kent, I guess.

Do you have a link for this? I believe you, just can’t find info on this anywhere LOL

As for Elmore, it’s hard to root for anyone if they go to a MAC rival, but Ball State’s been down on their luck for so long it feels different than an Akron/Kent/Miami/Toledo transfer. Plus, as others have said, he’s a very likeable young man and seems to have left on good terms.

The league would be a lot better and more fun as a whole if Ball State was a yearly contender. I have no issues with this move.

Bad Mouth Towns is easy to forget, IMHO.

In terms of EJ to BSU, it's kind of "meh" to me.
