Sears winning shot has some similarities with Bobby Tatum's game winner v. Ill St. in NCAA tourney first-round game 38 years ago. Illinois St., like Rice, took a lead with just seconds left. Tatum, like Sears, takes a bump that wasn't called a foul, yet hits the game winner at the buzzer.

How's that for a memory, Shabamon?
As I recall he hit it as he was falling down. And I think the game was in Tampa.
Yes, he was falling down when he made that shot. Just incredible that he made it.
But Robert's shot was after a 3/4 length court pass and was from 15-18 feet. Sears made a mean man move to the hole.
You old-timers are tough. Please note that I said "has some similarities."

Wish JC had informed his partner we are Ohio and not Ohio U, weird to hear one consistently call us Ohio and the other Ohio U but pretty much par for the course.
With the cheer OU, Oh Ya, how can we not also be Ohio U? And with all the smart OHIO grads over the years how come one of you didn't start the OH IO cheer in Athens instead of the thieves 70 miles away?
We are Ohio U. As far as I know we are NOT Ohio Northern, NOT Ohio Wesleyan, NOT Ohio State and so on. This gibberish has made me laugh for decades.

It was the Ball State game all over again for JC. Amazing.

Mark Sears with a lesson on perseverance hitting that GW shot after a tough game.

Might as well win this dang thing.

Having paid the price to watch this game I was also curious to listen how JC would do the play by play.
Even though I am not a fan of Jim I thought he did a good job. He obviously spoke more about Ohio and the MAC then Rice.
The quality of this video was good as was the angles for the cameras.
The cost to this programming was high considering most of us have never even heard of Flosports. At $29.99 per month it was over $20 more than 1 month of the ESPN+ subscription. Fortunately one can cancel at any time.

Curious about the opinions of anyone who paid and watched the game regarding Christian’s color/analyst work last night. I don’t necessarily expect that it happened but were there any indications, other than perhaps some recognition he was once the coach, how he felt about the Bobcats? From the Sears’ game winning shot video it sounded like he was kind of excited with the result (I assume that was him yelling “that’s what he does, that’s what he does”).

Shot like hot garbage, especially from deep. Relied on 2-3 guys to do basically everything. Blew a massive lead. Won anyway.

Hey! Ohio’s playing just like it did before being exposed by Toledo. Let’s keep it rolling!

Don't think I agree with OCF on much but we do not say Miami U, Harvard U, Indiana U, U Wisconsin, U Illinois, U Kentucky, Penn State U.

Maybe a bit off topic… Has anybody noticed that so many of the teams left in this tournament move the ball. Point guards are passing early and everyone is moving off the ball.

Well, actually if we're going to be anal about letters in names, Miami DOES refer to themselves as "THE U" for Miami (FL) and "Miami of Ohio" for Miami (OH). You also have UK for Kentucky. OU for Oklahoma. Don't fear the "U" :).

Ohio U is pretty obviously just a differentiator for the national scene between us and Ohio State.

Yes, technically we're "Ohio". No, nobody else outside this board gets butthurt when somebody calls us Ohio U. Shoot, "I" call us OU most of the time, and Ohio U sometimes.

Anyways - back to basketball. Troy/Abilene Christian (dare I call them ACU *gasp*) plays tonight.

Glad we didn't get a tough opponent in the first round and the second looks to be the same with Troy/Albilene Christian.

Drake and Middle Tennessee are the only significant competition in this tournament.

Well, actually we are OU as is OK but no one say UOklahoma and no one says UKentucky.

I get what you are saying but when an announcer is a pro and does his research he will see

PRONUNCIATION GUIDE
John Tenerowicz – Ten-air-a-witz
Olumide Adelodun - O-Lou-ma-Day A-dell-O-don
IJ Ezuma - IJ Eh-Zoom-A
Jeff Boals – Bowls
Lamar Thornton – Thorn-ton

He/She/They will also find on Page 1 of the guide for every game https://ohiobobcats.com/documents/2022/3/11/31122_Ohio_MA...

OHIO, PLEASE
When referring to the Bobcats, please use Ohio. Ohio University
is acceptable when using other institutions’ full names, and OU
is acceptable as a second reference. Please do not use Ohio U.

So, the question remains, is the guy a pro or not?

mid70sbobcat,I notice that not one of those other colleges you mentioned did you affix the qualifier "University".

"Ohio Northern", not "Ohio Northern University" nor "Ohio Northern U"
"Ohio Wesleyan", not "Ohio Wesleyan University" nor Ohio Wesleyan U"
"Ohio State", not "Ohio State University" nor "Ohio State U"

Going with this, OUr school in Athens should just be "Ohio".

We are Ohio.

You're not wrong. Unless you talk to anybody outside Ohio/the MAC on a national stage. At which point when you say "Ohio" they either correct you and say "You mean Ohio State?" or just start talking about the Buckeyes.

You say Ohio U, and they either ask who the heck that is - or know you're talking about the Bobcats.

It is what it is.

I refuse to give in. If someone says, "You mean Ohio State?" I say, "No, I mean Ohio," and take the opportunity to let them know that just as there's a Florida and a Florida State, and just as there's a Michigan and a Michigan State, there's an Ohio and and an Ohio State.

Oh believe me, it frustrates me too. But I also recognize the reality - which is why Ohio U doesn't bother me.

Reasons like this are precisely why the only thing that matters in basketball is March.

How many people before this week knew where Saint Peter's University was? What their mascot was? What their colors were? Who their coach was? What league they were in?

My guess - less than 5% of America. Maybe less than 1%. Now? More like 1/4 of America. That's MASSIVE name recognition and RoI.

The more NCAA tournaments we go to, and more specifically win a game or two, the more recognizable "Ohio" will become instead of "Ohio U".

According to their website they're supposed to play Fresno Wednesday night in the second round of The Basketball Classic, f/k/a the CIT. They beat Morgan State last week. That tourney through the years has had problems getting enough teams to fill its brackets and with having games cancelled. This year it managed to get 21 teams for its 32-team tourney and UMBC cancelled its game because it didn't have enough healthy players to field a team.

Good luck with that. I had to actually put a hold on my CC last year so that their monthly charge bounced before I could actually engage them in a conversation that lead to my cancellation. I had signed up to watch the OHIO women in their tournament.
