My uneducated guesses in order:

1. Big donation to basketball program, a la, BUGS
2. Big time recruit commitment
3. Ohio joining the A10 for basketball

Recruiting coup?
This crossed my mind, too, but do we even have an open scholarship?

How about someone buying us a hanging scoreboard.  That would be awesome!

Buffalo has a nice one going up.

According to The Post Sports, they matter of factly say it is a TV announcement. By no means do I blindly believe whatever The Post says, but I would say that would be the current favorite.

They are finally going to put Bridgewater in the game?

You are making me nostalgic for days far worse than the present. That should not happen.

The great thing about chanting for Bridgewater was most of us really didn't care if he got in. I just liked to see Tim O'Shea get visibly angry about it.

To guess relating to TV, aiming big: some sort of GTN-style Ohio Sports Network on local TV.

When STO first launched, I had hoped Ohio could sign an exclusive deal to broadcast hoops and football games. That would've meant national exposure on a weekly basis, even if it was on tape delaY.

I was just thinking that (and was at the WSU game while admiring theirs), but thought I read on here by some supposed expert that it would be impossible due to structure limitations of the Convo.

That might be believable if there wasn't an arena in West Lafayette, Indiana built by the same architect at nearly the same time that is virtually identical to the Convo and boasts a hanging scoreboard. Check out the picture.

I daresay if the funds were there and it was considered a priority, we would have one.

I know they were talking about how to spend that 2M that was set aside for Convo improvements from the recent 10M gift from the Walters.  There was a few 100K that was spent right away updating the athletic training rooms.  The other ~1.5M was being evaluated.  I don't think a video board was specifically out of the conversation...but I got the sense it wasn't very high on the list.

I still say with how lighter LED/LCD displays are these days...can't weigh much more than those massive speakers they currently hang there.  Plus as mentioned, Purdue figured it out.

Fingers are crossed that the announcement is the Miami game will be picked up by ESPN, and they're moving tip-off to 9PM.  That'd give the students and dads plenty of time to hit Court St to get 'lubed' for the game.

LOL no way its a recruiting announcement, plus you can't talk about recruits unless they are signing a LOI.

It is a JUCO signing period currently.  I know we were expecting Anthony Allen in 2013, not 2012, but he's "big".

I know Bobcat Love was touring Ohlone the other day, maybe...

I was hoping they'd string this thing along another day so that this thread would keep escalating to the point that Ohio was going to play the Globetrotters on the surface of the moon in 2012.

Is this the BIG announcement?   If so, it was kind of over-hyped just a tad!
