I actually love, "Oh baby, what a big time play!"  He doesn't really do it that much.

Everyone knows I am over 45.

When I heard that I thought it was funny.  suffering from a little "lats-envy", perhaps?

Maybe we should have these guys, I think their names are Homer, his brother Gomer and his other brother Gomer ... they could make a Miami-BG game interesting.

Forgive me, you've all probably seen it. It's football and my favorite announcing video (and I spent a year as a Radio-TV major).

Be thankful for what we've got.

I'm a third past 45 and I think Russ does a good job.  Back in the day when I was doing pbp on b-ball and f-ball, with no professional training, I was a bit of a screamer because with radio you need to provide the excitement for the audience, since they have no video to get excited about.  I think what Russ does is try to make the game on radio a little more entertaining.  There's nothing wrong with that.  With f-ball, you have a lot of down time between plays (a little less with the current offense) so you need to have something to fill it in.  Not so much in b-ball.  But if you can personalize the game and add some background with your experiences, that helps to make the game more informative and more entertaining.  The wardrobe thing?  Well, it's kind of silly but it comes during timeouts and doesn't really detract from the game, so why not.  There's nothing more tiring in a game than overdone analysis of what's going on.  My one gripe about Russ is that he blows the math too often.  When it's 2nd and 8 and somebody gets six yards, how can it be 3rd and 4?  Or if the lead is 10 and somebody hits a 3, how can the lead be 6?  Does Rosetta Stone make a math course he can use?

Russ does a good job.  He's supportive of the programs (we once had someone on a f-ball broadcast complain that the Marshall game was on Black Friday one year) and dammit, he works hard.  So lighten up, Francis.  (El Gato, you are an inspiration.)

No.

OUr broadcast crew is excellent.

With all due respect to the lady in the house, this post is ridiculous.

You don't get to decide what everybody thinks about Russ, and there is a fair amount of evidence on this board that Russ isn't everyone's cup of tea.

It pains me to agree with Swank, but sometimes I do. This is one of those times.

Eisenstein is a pro, and he's far from bad, but there's room for improvement.

Someone with some connection to southeast Ohio would be a good start. He can't really hide the way he views Athens as a way station in his career.

Fewer cutsie platitudes such as "The gunslinger from Oklahoma" (Tettleton) or "The likeable guy from Terre Haute" (Bassett) would be nice.

Questioning bad playcalling and poor efforts would be wonderful. I think it's a mistake to have your play-by-play guy be a university employee (or a subcontractor employee) as director of broadcasting. It prevents independence.

But, hey, I didn't bring any of this stuff up.

Figures Putnam wouldn't like Russ and Rob, they don't have any court records he can find and post to make himself look like a big man. No surprise either that he over reacts to a female poster, I'll leave that one up to Freud to sort out.

Sure Russ and Rob have their idiosyncrasies like any other broadcasting team but they are certainly one of the better ones out there. Case in point, Im suffering though this Akron/VCU game and the announcers sound like two grumpy uncles who either scream lie cheerleaders or complain about every thing the refs do or don't do. I want to stab my ear with a pencil.

THANK YOU RUSS AND ROB for all you do, keep up the good work!

All of these posts are just opinions, but  I happen to love the broadcast team.  I find them to be a really good combination of quality play-by-play and entertainment.  If I only wanted factual play-by-play, I'd just follow the GameTracker.  Russ works really hard.  I am amazed sometimes at how prepared he is for some of the no-name teams we play in basketball.  He doesn't miss a beat with their names in a sport that is really hard to get right on the radio.  Give me a vanilla play-by-play guy and I will respond with the off button.  I think #4 is mistaking confidence for arrogance.

Rob is one of the smartest guys I know.  He has a good sense of humor and does a nice job with the color commentary.  He is basically a part-time broadcaster, but sounds like a real pro.  I also think the "What are They Wearing" segment is really funny.  I appreciate the fact that they aren't slobs while they are representing Ohio University.  I even gave Russ the name of my tailor.  You can say what you want about it, but Russ and Rob are the most professional sounding and looking broadcast team around, especially in the MAC.

Derek Scott is a personal friend of mine, and I enjoyed him while he was here.  Maybe it's because he called games with the same emotion as I watch them.  Broadcasting has changed a lot in the last decade due to multimedia and technology.  Derek and Russ also have completely different duties off the air.  I don't really compare them that much.  I like them both.

pp and db, they're not going away.

Jared Prickett strikes again, followed by Phil Hartman as Ed McMahon.

Well this is good, the team has been very good lately so the BobcatAttack curmudgeon patrol hasn't had anything to complain about. Thankfully that's been rectified.

Seriously my thoughts echo those of OUVan. What Russ and Rob have done for these broadcasts has increased my enjoyment of Ohio Basketball ten-fold. I am so very thankful to have both of them announcing our games. In my opinion they're the best.

In the interest of full disclosure, not only am I over 45, I also once emailed Russ and Rob during the broadcast of an away game to tell them what I was wearing.

Yikes -  I'm not touching that one with a ten foot pole.

As for Rob, he was not part of the original post and to my knowledge in rereading this thread, not one person offered any criticism of him.

LOL.  I've done that several times, too.  I still trying for bow tie day at a game.  I'd participate, too.

Russ is good...but I loves me some Rob C.  From his twitter profile: Tough on communism, easy on carpet. Broadcast professional, recreation enthusiast. Possesses many sea-lion qualities.

His tweets are awesome too.  Liberals probably want to stay away, but this libertarian leaning independent can't get enough.  Oh and he provides some very good color commentary on the bball broadcasts too.

I do think that Russ has brought the media aspect of the athletic department into the 21st century.  The webcasts are great, the pre-production stuff is amazing and I am sure that he along with Evan Shaw put together those intro segments together to get the crowd fired up.  Will they break out something special for the Miami game?

Yeah, it went something like, "Bobcat t-shirt, sweatpants and big fuzzy socks."

Really risque!
