Could be, KC. He's also done some nice pre-produced features that they play during the broadcasts.

Sponsored segment, you'd have to hear it no matter who is announcing. Other schools have it, too.

Sponsored segment but what company?

Maybe it's sponsored by an anti-nudity non-profit, because I've never heard any company mentioned.

No.

OUr broadcast crew is excellent.

With all due respect to the lady in the house, this post is ridiculous.

You don't get to decide what everybody thinks about Russ, and there is a fair amount of evidence on this board that Russ isn't everyone's cup of tea.

What post are you reading? The first poster asks a question, the second poster responds. How exactly is that determining what the rest of the world thinks about Russ? And how is it a ridiculous opinion to think that Russ and RobC are an excellent broadcast crew?

Personally, I think we have the best broadcasting duo in the MAC. I can't even understand how anyone could criticize either of these two professionals.

Think Russ and Rob do a GREAT job. Surprised Russ isn't somewhere bigger to be quite honest. When comparing this duo with some of the other broadcasters when having to buy those 1 game video packages on away games makes me appreciate Russ and Rob even more.

Yea Russ is a homer, but I also find him to be fair on calls and when the opponents deserve recognition. I "expect" a homer on radio/internet broadcasts. I've also found the "what are we wearing" segment amusing. When compared with the likes of Warren Swain, well, enough said!

(Sigh)

The question was, "Does anyone else feel as though russ could focus a bit more on the game rather than himself?"

The answer was, "No."

But a bunch of people do.

I dig Russ.  And Rob.

They have their schtick.  And, its fun people.  Jeesh.  I love the "what we are wearing"  segment.  Mainly because Russ is wayyyyy overdressed.  I only wish Rob C. would make for fun of Russ's attire.  And his perfect hair.

Marty Brennaman calls a great game for the Reds.  Jeff Brantley too.  And they have fun as well.  They take emails from fans -- often really funny ones.  Marty always makes fun of the beat reporter that shows up for a half inning.  And, etc.  Sure there's more dead time during a baseball game, but why not have some fun?

I'll agree that pulling out "way downtown BANG" for every three gets a bit tiring though.

Sorry to put words in your mouth, Putnam. Let me rephrase.

No, I PERSONALLY, do not agree with the original post and am of the opinion that we have an excellent broadcast crew.

I also wish I personally had a nickel for every time some other poster on here has made a reference to what "all" or "most" of us think. I'd be rolling in the dough.

IMO, Russ/Rob are significant improvements over Warren; Derek was prone to whine about calls and the Cats' performance way too much though I liked the guy.

This thread is ridiculous. Russ and Rob are awesome. I love the banter and comedic quips. Russ is part of the reason I tune in every game, he will be missed when he moves onto greener pastures. I'll take him over Swain and DScott anyday.

As someone who listens to every single game on the internet (except for the couple I make it to every year) I think Russ is the best thing that's happened to my enjoyment of the Cats since I discovered BobcatAttack.  I enjoy his light hearted banter and the segments where he talks about himself.   I liked Derek but I think Russ is better.  I think the other crew does a good job as well but our #1 team is absolutely a joy to listen to IMO.

It's funny you say that.  I was a big fan of Derek Scott, and I think Russ & Rob together is a better broadcast for sure.  For comparison's sake, I am also a big UC Bearcat basketball fan, and listen to 700 WLW a lot.  OUr duo is better than Hoard and Chuck in my book.  I consider Dan Hoard to be a very good commentator, but Russ makes it more interesting and enjoyable to listen to.

Let's all listen in on the Fiami broadcasters and see how they sound....another check mark in the Ohio Univeristy side of the OU vs Miami ledger I would guess.

Craziest thing is the work Russ and Rob do outside of just the broadcasts. The work that they along with Evan Shaw and his staff do in getting up pregame breakdowns, postgame breakdowns, and other assorted videos on the website is up there with the content the bigger programs churn out. Now if you miss a game you just hit the website and get a solid 3-4 minute highlight package with Rob's insightful commentary. Can't be beat in the MAC.

They will never be the best in the nation though until they bring back Bobcat Express. This is a fact.

I think it used to be sponsored.  Possibly by Cutter & Buck, but it doesn't seem to be anymore.

Cutter and Buck? Really?  I can't afford Cutter and Buck and I've been known to buy a shirt or two at Nordstrom's.  Gotta believe they decided they weren't getting the BANG they needed out of that spot.

I admire Russ and Rob and whoever else is responsible for the upgrade in our muti-media content and I am grateful for that but in PBP I think Russ is an acquired taste.   No disrespect to him but I also prefer a Joe Friday kind of announcer - just the facts please.

This is the dumbest thread ever, We are very lucky to have Russ and Rob bring us Ohio sports over the radio, they do an outstanding job, I have no problem with what they do or say during their broadcast. Its quite entertaining,  Best Ohio Broadcast team ever hands down.

There is a very simple solution to the problem. If you don't like Russ and Rob, Leave your dam radio turned off. Problem solved !

I'm going to make a generalization and say the majority of people who are posting positively about Russ are under 45, the people who dont like his style are over 45.

Anyway, Athena has cleared this up with aplomb.

You've really got to enjoy when things are going so well on the hardwood.

People then need to INVENT things to complain about.

This thread is exhibit A.

Oh and that's not my opinion...it's a universal truth.  BANG!

Like they said in the 60s - don't trust anyone over 30...

I am over 45 and I thoroughly enjoy the broadcasts.  I see them as a vast improvement over the previous broadcasters - particularly Warren, but I also consider him as an improvement over Derek in some areas.  I enjoyed Derek, but his being such a 'homer" and constantly (and pretty much immediately) complaining about the officials was distracting.  I especially liked it when he called the ref out by his full name on the air - just to make sure listeners knew who to complain to the league about, I suppose.   The other thing that bothered me about Derek was that he did not have a color man - or if he did, I never knew it.  He seemed to employ some kind of circular-breathing technique that prohibited any other commentary to edge into his broadcast.  He was not awful by any means - but those things annoyed me at the time.

I enjoy Russ and Rob.  Even though Russ is the main guy - he does a good job of sharing the microphone with Rob.  I like the rapport they have built over the years.  Whoever made the observation that Rob needs to fight back a little more was right on the money.  Also, I think that Russ' focus on himself is more in jest than anything - it might work better if Rob needled him a bit more.  Russ works well with his color man and Rob seems to know when to drop in his statistical tidbits.

Russ has his faults, to be sure.  (edited critical comments after reconsidering)

Overall I think Russ is growing into a fine broadcaster - when that day comes that he does move on I know that I will miss his description of the game.

By the way, I am wearing my Potato Bowl Champion T-shirt, a pair of worn blue jeans, and tube socks.

that is all...

I actually love, "Oh baby, what a big time play!"  He doesn't really do it that much.

Everyone knows I am over 45.
