Why is the ohio bobcat broadcast announcer russ eisenstien spend so much time during a game making comments about "him" and cutting down rob c.  .. his workouts are always discussed, his attire is always discussed , he seems as though he is more worried about what "he" is all about as opposed to the ballgame itself.

I think his voice is great and i love the fact that we have a "voice" which we can listen to during a football game as well as a basketball game.  The continuous "recaps" of the game i believe are just a chance for russ to here his voice again.

Does anyone else feel as though russ could focus a bit more on the game rather than himself ?

During the game against University of Northen Iowa russ continued to reference UNI, which i thought was odd ..
YOU and I ? .. I've never heard russ put someone else in front of himself !!

BANG !!

I guess you've never listened to any other radio announcers in the MAC. Russ is by and far away the best PbP man in the conference & we're lucky he's decided to stay here as long as he has.

tom and tony did a great job while russ was driving from portland to boise ..

he does a great job, but why so much focus on himself ?

As someone who listens to every single game on the internet (except for the couple I make it to every year) I think Russ is the best thing that's happened to my enjoyment of the Cats since I discovered BobcatAttack.  I enjoy his light hearted banter and the segments where he talks about himself.   I liked Derek but I think Russ is better.  I think the other crew does a good job as well but our #1 team is absolutely a joy to listen to IMO.

You nailed in Ron.  That's why I don't listen to him - too self-absorbed.  Even though he was a bit of a homer and blamed the refs a tad too much, I'll take Derek any day.

+1, Athena.  We are very blessed to have Russ and Rob.  They do an excellent job.

The "putting himself first" is simply a little light hearted humor.

Ron Harper . . . one of the best players ever to hoop it up in the Convo.

And while I don't agree with everything he has to say about Russ, he does make some good points. Give me the professional call of a game like Paul Keels for osu inc. (this coming from someone who roots against osu inc. >= anyone). I believe Tony C. does a better job calling a game as well. Probably in the minority, but I have no interest in what Russ or Rob are wearing. And is a "rock" a football or a basketball?

Matter of taste, I guess.

Sponsored segment, you'd have to hear it no matter who is announcing. Other schools have it, too.

Who cares?  What they are wearing or a mention of a workout is a few seconds here and there.  Would you prefer dead air?  Do you think he doesn't adequately address the key points of the game and is wasting valuable time?  Because that is insane.

Broadcasters focus on just the game and they're considered dull, too serious, not entertaining.  They casually insert some non-game related banter and now they ramble too much about themselves and not the game.  Russ is awesome, Rob is awesome...and for that matter, our backups Tony C & Tom are awesome as well.  Just yet another example of how we are the class of the MAC.

If you've got some free time, go to FirstRowSports, pull up a random mid major game from across the country and listen to the broadcasters there. If that doesn't give you a better appreciation for our broadcasting duo then nothing will.

With all due respect to the lady in the house, this post is ridiculous.

You don't get to decide what everybody thinks about Russ, and there is a fair amount of evidence on this board that Russ isn't everyone's cup of tea.

It pains me to agree with Swank, but sometimes I do. This is one of those times.

Eisenstein is a pro, and he's far from bad, but there's room for improvement.

Someone with some connection to southeast Ohio would be a good start. He can't really hide the way he views Athens as a way station in his career.

Fewer cutsie platitudes such as "The gunslinger from Oklahoma" (Tettleton) or "The likeable guy from Terre Haute" (Bassett) would be nice.

Questioning bad playcalling and poor efforts would be wonderful. I think it's a mistake to have your play-by-play guy be a university employee (or a subcontractor employee) as director of broadcasting. It prevents independence.

But, hey, I didn't bring any of this stuff up.

Wasn't Russ responsible for getting the web video feeds for home basketball?  If that is the case, I can easily forgive and overlook discussion of his workouts, what he's wearing, Chicago etc.
