Explain to me how ESPN can create a tournament, and then not be bothered to actually air the games on the actual ESPN.   The entire Bracket Buster system is becoming more and more of a joke...

I can't remember if they ever had games on the mothership, but I think they did at the beginning.

I know it hasn't been on ESPN for the past few years.

In years past, they have announced matchups first with time slots and channels coming later. Are they announcing the whole shebang together tonight?

Star Press said this morning that their projected match up is with league leading Stonybrook with a return within 2 years. That 's gonna be a fun trip.

Yeah, the times on that schedule link don't match up to the time slots at all.  There are no Sunday games, either.  The available TV slots are below, per Mattsarz.

Friday 7pm ESPN2
Friday 9pm ESPNU

Sat 11am ESPNU
Sat 12pm ESPN2
Sat 1pm ESPNU
Sat 2pm ESPN2
Sat 3pm ESPNU
Sat 4pm ESPN2
Sat 5pm ESPNU
Sat 6pm ESPN2
Sat 8pm ESPN2

I'd be happy with any time that isn't 11am or noon.  I like the 4pm, 6pm, or 8pm slots just because it's a different time than we usually get to have.   Which brings a thought to mind:  Why don't they ever schedule home games on Saturday's at a later time?  Say 4pm, or 7pm?  Seems we always default to 2pm unless TV asks for a different time.

There are 13 tv games this year not 11. There has always been a straggler game or 2 on sunday, so its not impossible for their slots to have been correct.

I'm getting old.  I know this because I can't call ESPN3 TV like the rest of the world.  Pretty sure those are the remaining 2 slots, however.

Agreed... I'm still not sure I even consider ESPNU to be actual TV...

I'm with Mike - ESPN3 isn't "TV" to me either.   The U is better TV than STO is most of the time, and there's no Steve Mix to listen to.

I would agree its not tv in the normal sense, but its free to stream and watch, whereas if it isnt on there you likely have to pay for the stream from the school who is hosting directly. One could argue that espn3 is more like tv than espn u, since many more people have access to espn3 than have people access to the u.

ESPNU is 10x better than STO. Easily.

Even if its on digital cable, I still watched the ball state game on my TV, via the cable box. Therefore: TV.

I probably shouldn't have said anything.  I just prefer my tv to be on tv.  One day I'll join the progressive movement I suppose, but I'm not there yet.

I'm not sure I understand the ESPNU comment anymore.  Is the U still that unavailable?  I know it's not included in some prime packages (it is for me on Directv however) but I thought pretty much every provider offered it these days.  It seems to be on par with households with the other secondary sports channels (Golf Channel, NBC Sports/VS) and ahead of the NFL Network, NBA Network and others.  It's come along way in the last 5-6 years since I had to resort to Joe Edwards Cable giving me my ESPNU fix.

According to ESPN, 72 million U.S. homes get ESPNU, compared to 99 million that get ESPN and ESPN2, so it seems most people do get ESPNU now. The claim is that about 70 million homes get ESPN3, so it's pretty close to the same for both.

As UpSan pointed out, the comment about many more people having access to ESPN3 than ESPNU is incorrect, they're very similar in terms of distribution.  The TV slots posted from Matt Sarz are correct, and the random image posted seems to be just a random guess.  There are no games Sunday, and the ESPN3 slots account for the 11-to-13 discrepancy.

Now, let me blow your mind about what is and isn't TV: I watched the Ball State game on my laptop, because I don't get ESPNU here, but I can access it through WatchESPN.  Does that mean it wasn't on TV?  STO games are on TV, right?  But I can only get them through ESPN3.  Are they on TV?  I've been known to plug my laptop into a TV with a three dollar cable and watch ESPN3 on an HDTV.  Now is it on TV?

The lines are blurring big time, and by now, ESPN3-exclusives like our Rutgers and Marshall football games this past season, I would argue, featured better production than many local broadcasts.

Jeremy Guy from the MAC office tweeted that he just got off the BracketBuster conference call and that the MAC would be well-represented. Sounds good for Ohio.

MAC Director of Communications Jeremy Guy just tweeted:

Just got off BracketBusters call. Let's just say the MAC will be well represented! Tune in to  at 6:30 p.m. to see the matchups!

That sounds like a good thing. We have the 2nd MAC draw after Akron so hopefully we have a good slot.

Now THAT is mind blowing!

You work for ESPN, and thus, I assume you live fairly close to ESPN, and you don't get the U?

I figured it was an over-the-air type of setup there...

I have your standard 80-channel lineup included in the rent, and can't be bothered to pay for the extra digital tier.  It isn't that it's not available, but the U is about the only thing on digital cable I'd watch, and I can access it online.

I can't get "3" as my internet carrier will not provide the service.  Any suggestions.

Not to hijack the thread but this is relevant and pertinent when discussing broadcast/cable/sattellite TV vs Internet. It is fine to click the link and just listen as his delivery is part of the fun.

In regards to the ESPNU vs. STO debate...

STO shows every MAC game in HD. The last two OU games on ESPNU have been broadcast in some bizarre non-HD format that someone more knowledgeable in TV tech (Tim Burke, are you out there?) could explain.

As for ESPN3, if you have the right cable provider and an XBox, you can watch games on your TV. I did it for the Louisville game this year.
