The three conferences we should target are the MVC, Horizon and the CAA.  If we can keep our RPI in the top 100 consistently we should be attractive opponents for these guys.

This weekend is it! Just swept our 4-game homestand with the matchup being announced on Monday. If we're trying to get a TV matchup I think St. Mary's, Nevada, Wichita State, or C of C is our best bet. Any of those four I would love to see come to the Convo.

It looks like we are in striking distance of a TV game. I'm assuming there is what 11 TV games (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU) for bracket buster so the top 22 RPI participants should be on TV. Ohio is #17 with its RPI and with 17-4 record should be safely within the TV cutoff point. Likely something on ESPNU.

I know the TV games have always been released first. Anyone know what time they release these?

Monday at 6:30 on ESPNU.  Word has leaked out day of in the past, but officially that's the schedule.

I'm hoping we pull a SHOCKER on Monday, but I'm probably just dreaming.

I'm almost certain we've clinched a TV game.  Which one is the question.  I seriously doubt we garner St. Mary's or Wichita State.  Nevada or College of Charleston are possibilities but I think at least geographically there are more ideal matchups for both of them.

More relevant than our overall RPI rank among the teams is our rank among home teams.  We're 8th on that list -- TV seems a given, the question would be whether we'll be on ESPN2 (6 slots) or ESPNU (5 slots), and what timeslot we'd garner.

My bet on most likely opponent is Drexel, but Nevada, Drake, and C of C all seem plausible.

For next years travel budget, I think Drexel or Drake would be better then a trip out to Reno to play Nevada.

Also, Des Moines is within a decent drive to Kansas City, which would be a nice senior trip for Ivo.

Drexel worries me though.  They are an excellent defensive team and play the game at a snail's pace. They are allowing the fewest offensive rebounds in the nation and are the best 3 pt FG defense in the nation. They've held nine opponents under 50 points this year including a ridiculous 27 allowed against Towson. IMO I think they'll end up with Iona.

Here is my prediction for the TV games

1. St. Mary's at Creighton (WCC vs MVC)
2. Wichita State at Murray State (MVC vs OVC)
3. Long Beach State at Oral Roberts (BWC vs SUM)
4. Drexel at Iona (CAA vs MAAC)
5. Nevada at South Dakota State (WAC vs SUM)
6. Akron at Missouri State (MAC vs MVC)
7. Northern Iowa at Cleveland State (MVC vs HOR)
8. Drake at Ohio (MVC vs MAC)
9. College of Charleston at VCU (SOU vs CAA)
10. UNC Asheville at Davidson (Big South vs SOU)
11. Buffalo at George Mason (MAC vs CAA)
12. Lamar at New Mexico State (SLD vs WAC)
13. Valpo at Kent State (HOR vs MAC)

5 MVC
4 MAC
3 CAA
2 Summit
2 Horizon
2 Southern
2 WAC
1 MAAC
1 Southland
1 WCC
1 OVC
1 Big West
1 Big South

A week ago I thought Butler was in position to hop up and grab a TV game, and they still might, but it's a lot harder to justify the 22nd highest home team warranting a TV game.  Also I don't know how hard the powers that be try to make sure every conference that partakes ends up with a TV game. If so then Weber State will get one for the Big Sky.

m i right in thinking that Butler has not been a participant the last few years. Nice work on the list . I like Drake. THey will be better next year and the relevance of both conferences is on the rise with the recent coaching changes.

Looks like just last year they sat out.  They played Siena the season before, and Davidson before that.  For some reason, Butler and UIC didn't participate in 2011.

And maybe WVU in the Big 12.

This list is from the Richmond Times-Dispatch.  Says a lot of what has been said above.  For the sake of media awareness, I'd probably prefer to see Drake so we're playing the MVC twice in a year.  From my perspective, they seem to get a little more credit than the CAA, and usually have higher RPI's as a whole.  On the other hand, this year the CAA is usually going to be a better road trip to take for OUr fans.

As much as we (drexel) would like to see iona this year, they are way too high up to drop them down to us. The talk from various sources has been you guys and davidson for us. And honestly, either would be fine with me. I am hoping they dont drop us down to say a loyola (md). Either way we would be a tough out to most of these teams, luckily whoever gets to play us is at home, so that increases drastically that teams chance to beat us. We are playing our best ball of the year right now and just beating teams down.

The return trip would not be next year as I saw some post. Returns trips are 2 years out.
