RealtimeRPI has the Huskies pulling out a one point victory.

http://www.realtimerpi.com/bin/rtr/rpi/scouting?team1=270&team2=271&gender=1&home=&date=02-01

They have us losing to Toledo, EMU and Fiami as well.  Haters.

You realize that they have us losing all of our away games 69-67, and winning all the home games 75-61.  Something tells me those aren't accurate.

Plus being 16pt favorites and having a "simulation" say we are 2pt dogs should raise some red flags.

Some observations:

  • NIU will be one of the smaller teams Ohio faces this year, not just in height, but in thickness.
  • It will be hard to tell what impact the dismissal of Toler has on the team.  (Not sure if the official NIU release said "we wish him well in his future endeavors.")
  • As you would expect for a 2-17 team, the stat sheet looks bad.  Considering how young and undersized this team is, it's remarkable to me that they have been as competitive as they have been in a number of games this year against decent teams.  That's why I don't think Ohio can just walk out there and have an easy game.
  • Ohio just has to play their game and this will probably be a double digit victory.  However, stranger things have happened and Ohio has to come ready to play hard and smart.
  • NIU is turnover prone so Ohio needs to bring the effort to force turnovers and get transition buckets.
  • NIU flat out struggles on offense.  Low shooting percentage.  They assist almost half their FGs so that's not too bad.  But the turnovers keep them from getting into a rhythm.
  • They hold their opponents to 44% FG%, which is respectable.
  • NIU outrebounds its opponents, but that is largely because they shoot a poor 36.4% from the field, which means there are a lot more offensive rebounds to get.
  • I would like to see Ohio shoot it better tonight while continuing to bring the intense effort on defense.  I hope that we take the game seriously, handle the ball intelligently, and use good shot selection.

Not quite. They're the conference's best in defensive rebounding percentage and third in offensive rebounding percentage.

Brought to you by the campaign to end rebounding margin

I'm not getting in my car to make this trip from the city to DeKalb.

Know why?

NIU sucks. Stunk. Stunk. Awful.

The only outcome I could stomach in person would be a good old fashioned whippin' by our men in green. No other outcome is reasonable.

Why?

We're good...but NIU is turrible.

I count 378 people at the game tonight.

DeKalb may be the center of suck.

Now we can see why the Bracketbuster people don't want us on TV.  No excuses here.

Maybe they've actually been paying attention. I don't understand why Groce's teams play sloppy so often. It's been that way since his first season.

This has become a foul fest. Something like 15 fouls in a little over 8 minutes.

When you find yourself being terribly upset by this team's play, remember that it won 19 games last season.

They have 18 wins right now.

Perspective.

The tourism board of Asheville, North Carolina, guerrilla marketing campaign.

When Ohio doesn't play well it gets barbequed. When it plays well it gets ignored.

I think I can honestly say that if they play the rest of the games like they did tonite, they will not win 19 this year.  What upsets me is the lousy play that enables "lesser teams" to stick with us so long.  We need to shoot better, foul less and find a way to not disappear for 3-6 minutes without scoring. I don't get it. I know-just keep winning anyway you can, but.... Check out some other scores tonite for examples.

Just home...didn't see or hear the game.  Just looked at the box score.  Would anyone agree with me that this has to be the worst 18-4 team in the country?  When is the last time our offense scored 70?  And, how many ugly games can you play in a row?  Oh, and just to get some discussion going, what the heck has happened to that frosh star point guard we had a couple of years ago?  I guess that is enough questions!

Chat room was off the hook tonight.  Tourism, politics, women, libations, gentlemen's clubs, and a little football and basketball talk mixed in.

You don't think they'll win a single game the rest of the season? Come on.

If they play this way, who do you think they would beat?  I really don't know who it would be.
