Am I right to assume, then, that our RPI will not be in the Top 30 even if we win out? That is kind of the range we are looking for.

No. A one-loss team would easily be in the top 30.

Assuming you are pushing this out to the end of the year? I am not sure that statement is accurate presently. I generallly like watching the Sagarins, KenPom and such come into line about this time of year. Predictors and spreads become amazingly accurate and SOS comes to bite you in the arse.

I think when all is said and done we will end up with 11 games against top 100 RPI teams.

Louisville
Lamar
Robert Morris
Northern Iowa
Kent State x 2
Akron x 2
Buffalo x 2
Bracket Buster

Luckily we only get the conference anchor (NIU) once so that won't hurt us too much.  If we take care of business our RPI will be in good shape.  Of course, taking care of business in the MAC is easier said than done.

Any chance they would make Nevada fly all the way out here or are we going to get relagated with a much lower but closer team?

I would expect with the current rankings that Nevada would end up with South Dakota State and we'd end up with Drake.

It will be interesting to see how far Iona drops after their loss to Siena
S Dakota has an away game at Oakland
Cleveland State at YSU
Davidson has two road games

right now we are the 8th team with a home game - if we win out we might sneak up a few more if things fall into place.

Early wins against Marshall,  Lamar and N Iowa look less exciting every week.  They all lost tonite to underdogs.

The TV matchups get announced on Monday.  In looking at the possible matchups for us I come up with these teams:

6) Nevada 72 (unlikely IMO)
7) Drexel 86
9) College of Charleston 99
10) Drake 107
12) Valpo 116

The number on the left is where they rank among road teams in RPI. The number on the right is their actual RPI rank.

We are the 8th highest ranked home team with an RPI rank of 70.  I doubt we will warrant one of the top 3 road teams (St. Mary's, Wichita State, Long Beach St).  After the top 3 teams we have played three of the next 10 teams (UNI, Lamar & Oakland) and two of them are MAC teams (Buffalo & Akron).  That leaves the 5 teams listed above.  I don't think we get Nevada.  I think Drexel goes to Iona (5th home team).  College of Charleston may go to VCU who have the name appeal to move up a few slots above their actual RPI ranking.  I still think we get Drake which I'm fine with.  Akron has an interesting possibility. They could possibly pull in a Butler matchup which would assuredly be on one of the big channels.

YSU has a nice squad. I saw them beat Milwaukee last week. They could make some noise in the Horizon.

I would be very bummed if we got Youngstown for a number of reasons.  One, they almost always stink.. They are better this year than they normally are (10 straight losing seasons, epically bad in most) but I don't have much confidence that in two years when the return game happens that they will be very good.   Also, we already play an arseload of games in that area so I don't think it helps us any to play there more.  I'd prefer somewhere else in the midwest.   Lastly, their 150ish RPI doesn't do us much good this year.

We should be 7th now - South Dakota State lost at Oakland last night - we have a chance if we win to hop - Cleveland STate at YSU and Iona at Fairfield tonight - stay tuned

I will say YSU knows how to keep it local.

If we get a good opponent, I hope Groce presses them for the return game next year to help our SOS. Otherwise, I just hope we get on ESPN2.

The College of Charleston just lost a little luster.  Bobby Cremins is battling an unspecified non-life threatening illness and is taking an indefinite leave of absense.  Hopefully he'll be able to make it back eventually.

They still have us 67 (.5699)  to 70 (.5669) although they play IUPUI (273) tomorrow while we play Ball State (229) which may be enough to vault us over them.

See the original post in the thread for updated information.

Ohio has been gradually dropping in both the RPI and Sagarin ratings, but hopefully that trend will be reversed.
In the Sagarins, barely squeezing out wins at home when we are double digit favorites hurts.

MAC holding steady at #13 in the Sagarins, but has gradually slid a few spots in the RPI as our opponents and opponents' opponents are not doing as well as we  would like.

Since the leagues are bunched up pretty closely around the MAC, the league could either go up or down a couple of notches depending on how the Bracket Buster goes.

RPI held steady at 71, which is all I could ask for. Moved up to 38 in Basketball State.

Does anyone know what the highest RPI was to secure an at-large bid? I seem to recall something in the 40's.

In 1999 New Mexico got in with a #74. In the last five seasons five teams have gotten at large bids with RPIs worse than 60. USC was #67 last year and got an at large. Same with Stanford in  2007.   As for the MAC,  Western Michigan received an at large with an RPI of #58 in 1998.

The big difference between "them" and "us" is they play conference home games against ranked teams and win some. We don't have that luxury.

Northern Iowa just upset #13 Creighton on a three at the buzzer, only seconds after Creighton tied it with a three with 4.6 seconds left. Awesome game.

Should boost the RPI.
