Looking at the portal this afternoon, some guys are having to "settle."

Not sure these destination were what they had in mind upon entering the portal but here's where some are are going:

Mississippi University for Women (not a joke - this is what it says)
Georgia Highlands
Lander
Carson-Newman
Williston
Flagler
Seminole State
Western N.M.
Francis Marion
Johnson C Smith
Cumberland

This is not to imply that none are going to end up at Big10 or SEC schools... a few are. And there are some decent mid-majors listed.
It's also possible that these players may have found perfect homes and will be ten times happier. The best situation isn't necessarily the shiniest. Ask Buzz Anthony (Randolph-Macon) or Ryan Turell (Yeshiva), both of whom could have easily succeeded at the D1 level, if they are happy with the choices they made.
Totally agree, Van. I got to see Buzz play in person four games this season, including the D3 Final Four. Phenomenal player. I saw Turell play by video several times this year. He seemed happy to be at Yeshiva and they got a lot of national attention.

If Turell is Orthodox, then he should be thrilled that he was at Yeshiva. They don't schedule games from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. Yet, there are NBA scouts interested in him. He might get picked up as an undrafted free agent.

Elsewhere, Gabe Dorsey originally from Pennsylvania (6-6 wing) who had offers from Vandy, Penn State, Xavier, Providence, Wake Forest, etc just hit the portal.
Turell is Orthodox. Yeshiva is able to schedule all their games despite the Sabbath requirement. They fill their small gym for games plus they have a good video broadcast. Turell participated in the Portsmouth Invitational.

Will be interesting to see how many of these kids don't even get to "settle" and are left out in the cold.

These kids just don't seem to be able to do simple math ...

It's them

vs. HS recruit...vs. JC recrut...vs. other portal recruits.

Unless they have a deal on the table when they leave (which would be tampering wink-wink) landing at another spot as good as the one you got is very problematic.

Plus add in the HS kids that went prep school last year and the COVID Seniors who decide to stick around. It's a dangerous game of musical chairs. Lots of bad advice out there. Also some pretty good advice if you listen to the right people.

How old is Mballa…67?

Good thing that program has a young, energetic coach with a personality to bring in a completely new roster.

Call me crazy but I don’t see Buffalo winning 12 games next year.

I agree. Losing a ton of senior talent that mostly carried them last year.

Noted this on the recruiting page but Sylla goes to Towson, and Keshaun Saunders from Toledo transfers to Portland State.

It’s not exactly like we’re going to have a huge returning roster after losing 7 players. We return about 19 points a game from last years squad.

Akron adds Hankerson from NIU. Big pickup for them: 11.4 ppg, 3.7 rpg last year in 30 starts.

Did you know the NAACP was co-founded by a rabbi? How do you like that?

As a young person, where would you rather live, Toledo or Portland. I've got 2 sons and their families living in Portland. You couldn't pry them out of there.

Your comment reminds me of this song by John Denver.

Yep, Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, who was a prominent progressive reformer. Wise was from Hungary, and also founded the Jewish Institute of Religion, and lobbied President Wilson to support the Balfour Declaration. Wise was also friends with Einstein and FDR. The NAACP had several early jewish leaders, Henry Moskowitz was a Romanian Jew and socialist and an earlier leader in the NAACP starting in 1913.

Commented on this in recruiting thread, but Anderson Mirambeaux transfers from Cleveland State to Fiami. 6'8 305 lber with not very eye catching stats.
