Eastern Illinois ( yes the same Eastern Illinois that lost by 11 in Athens) just won at Iowa 92-83. They were a 30 point dog. Man wish I could go back and bet the money line on that one.
That just may be the year's most shocking upset in D1.
How bout those Panthers (I was born in Charleston, IL and my Mom is a EIU grad)!

Without question the upset of the season, could make an argument for largest upset in D1 history. Line was 31.5. I read they could not find a single instance of a 30+ point underdog winning. Previous 30+ point underdogs were 0-558.

SUNY Canton is rated #383 out of 419 NCAA D3 teams. Their conference is rated #45 out of 49.
At least it's an NCAA School. Ye who play UC-Clermont should not cast stones.

Not on the same level of EIU over Iowa but still an unexpected result was NIU (3-9 coming in) winning at Indiana State (9-3 coming in) today. And this upset favors a MAC school that's been down for several years but playing some young players under a second-year coach.

This win for the MAC makes up for Akron being drubbed by Bradley today. Just don't think Groce has enough firepower this year to contend with Kent and UT.

KSU reaches 10 wins with wins the last two nights over N. Mexico St. and UTEP. The Flashes did it with defense v. UTEP, winning 47-46, forcing 22 turnovers. A typical Senderoff team, winning ugly and playing top teams Houston and Gonzaga down to the final minute.

Akron showed no effort. Got down 20-4. Lost by 19, but even that's misleading. Were down 63-33 with nine minutes left.

The portal wasn't ultra-kind to the Zips this year, either. Ali Ali was a big piece for them and he bolted for (I think) Butler. Sammy Hunter, the SEC transfer from Ole Miss, has had a few decent games but he has not been what I expected him to be. They still have Castaneda and Freeman, which is a pretty solid pair in the MAC, but not having that solid/consistent 3rd guy might hurt Akron this year.

Light slate in this last week before conference play. Anything less than 6-4 would be surprising to say the least.

Reggie Bass, AJB's top competitor for MAC Frosh of the Year, hits a 3 with 11 seconds left to give CMU a 63-61 win over Michigan. The MAC finally gets a win over UM after the Wolverines won close games v. EMU and Ohio. CMU, with one of the worst non-conference record among MAC schools, played without their top player, Kevin Miller, last year's MAC Frosh of the Year runner-up to Ball State's Sparks.

That's an embarrassing loss for UM. Also doesn't help us any.

Reggie Bass with the dagger vs Michigan guaranteed himself MAC Frosh of the year unless injury sadly shorten his season. Few opportunities come along like this and it is awesome to produce and carry your team to victory. Way to go Reggie Bass.

Favorite and front runner? Sure. It's his to lose. I don't think it's guaranteed though. If AJB puts up 16+ a game in conference and leads us to a top 2 seed (since they announce before conf tourney I believe) or a Mac finals appearance then he's got a great shot IMO.

It's definitely Bass and Brown for the frontrunners - hate I have to miss the game against them on the 21st.

Other than PPG average and shooting percentage, Bass is the current stat leader of freshman guards. He also plays on a team that needs him on the floor all the time unlike other skilled freshman that find themselves on rosters where there are quality alternatives or a deeper bench resulting in less minutes for them.

No other player till the awards are given out will have the opportunity to accomplish against a big time program what this freshman did.

Sure, the developing Reggie Bass could go Ivo Roderick the remainder but his trending is towards steady scoring and rebounding with a few dimes a game along with the big ESPN highlight. Could another MAC freshman go off his own current personal trendline and significantly surpass the season total of Bass results--unlikely. This results in Reggie Bass winning the 2022-2023 FOY award.

Early March (on this topic) will show if I am FoS..........

So if the one game against Michigan secured him the FOY award, what does going scoreless (on 0-11 shooting) against Miami do?

Can you imagine being a Purdue fan on Monday? Your football team gets absolutely embarrassed 63-7 in the Citrus Bowl and you think well, at least our bball team is #1 in the nation how historic and exciting...BOOM lose at home to Rutgers. Oof.

Didn't check the other potential front runners, a couple of double doubles perhaps?

Not sure if anyone caught the Ball State/Akron broadcast Friday night. The color analyst...I think Tim Doyle??...said that Kent State was a Final Four caliber team.

Not that their season was going places, but NIU's best player and the conference's fifth leading scorer Keyshawn Williams is out for the year with an ACL tear.

NIU, without its best player, beat CMU last night as CMU again played without its best player and last year's MAC Frosh of Year runnerup Kevin Miller. Miller hasn't played since November and is averaging 18.5 pts.
