I'm disappointed too, but to say he's not a class act until you have some real facts in your hands is rather unfair don't you think?

How did you reach that conclusion? Other than the ungodly circus that is LOLinois athletics right now, this coaching search if proceeding just like every other one.

Coach is contacted, coach interviews, coach and school negotiate "in secret", information is leaked. everyone finds out what's going on before deal is done and well before coach can speak to the team. Tale as old as time.

By the man who brought you the great QB conspiracy of 2011.  What credibility?

Sounds like he left McDavis hanging too. Never gave him a final answer or goodbye.

I'm really looking forward to hearing/reading some of the facts on this. All of it.  It feels a little like he left them hanging, but I don't want to believe that until I know more concrete information.

There is still time for a final goodbye...it's not like he's never stepping foot in Athens again. He is going to Illinois today, but will probably be back in Athens as soon as tomorrow. I am sure he'll be saying good bye to a lot of people, including Prez McDavis.

I agree that is so hard to make snap decisions about things when they are very fluid and information moves so quickly.

Time to move on.

McDavis is quoted in the Athens Messenger today that Groce never gave him a final answer.  He knew they were in talks and doing what they could to keep him here, but Groce never told McDavis he took the job before all of this has been announced today.

I don't know if he really needs to say something to him.  Maybe with all of the Locker room talking and stuff McDavis did with him at the tourney, but that can just be camera time for McDavis.

At the end of a successful season you always have to hold your breath when coaches start talking about 'building here', 'looking strong for the future', because at the mid-major level what sounds like a great path for success in the heat of the moment or right after a big win.....disappear when the knock on the door offers a better position.

Not knocking it just saying it happens very often.

The pretense is the part that's hard to stomach. In the end, he's just a commodity for sale to the highest bidder.

And, that's not what he appeared to be.  I just hope that our next coach is either clearly a guy looking on us as a stepping stone or a potentially lifer, not someone who appears to be one thing and turns out to be another.

Been moving all day last thing I heard coach was meeting with players.  Was it ever said if someone from the AD Office, Ast. Coach, or McDavis was in that meeting to ensure JG wasn't asking who is coming with me to the players?  All I care about at this point is keeping the team intact and getting a good Coach!

I like how people profess adoration for a guy and then three days later want him to be ushered out of town in a Hannibal Lector mask and straight jacket.

No offense, but John Groce isn't going to be recruiting two-star players any more.

At the end of the day is there really alot of difference between TOS and Groce. Both wanted out of Athens as soon as humanly possible. Only difference is Groce won. Makes me appreciate Solich more.

That's how things go when you leave one place for another in any business.  Especially when it is to another company within that business you don't get to run the halls like you did when you were still employed by that company.  You get your card board box and leave.  Remember seeing Knorr when he was fired at the grocery store asking for boxes to move.  This no different.  If thing don't end badly they will never end!  We are just the ugly girl in this break up.  Good Luck JG.

Who would leave in five seconds if a top 20 football program offered him the job.

Accusing him of tampering is much different than what you just posted.

Not many top 20 programs are looking for 67 years head coaches that why we get him on the cheap plus he is comfortable here.

Such insight we have.  I'm astounded at that psychological personality profile you've compiled that allows you to make this prediction with such pinpoint accuracy.

But the post was praising Solich for his 'loyalty' and denigrating Groce for his lack of it. Solich's han't been tested for us to know.

The same one that had you projecting Groce wanting to stay in Athens based on his press conferences.

Yours was based on sentimentality. Mine is based on history and human nature. I choose mine.

Actually, he has had feelers from Big Time programs.  He hasn't pursued them.

... based on a lot more than just a press conference.  Read my post in another thread on this issue.

I said Top 20 program. Ohio State. Michigan. Penn State.

OCF, you are sentimental. That makes you a good person. Seriously. I am cynical. That makes me an a-hole. Unfortunately when it comes to money issues, a-holes are usually right.

I have seen it happen at other programs players leave with the coach.  I just wanted to know if our AD had a procedure for an exiting coach to prevent tampering.  JG gave us some good memories, but he is no longer OU.  And should be treated as such.  Good luck JG.

@ohiostunter STFU here we go again" I can hear your little whiny cry-baby voice..Oh don't talk about the negative stuff going on with the program. Yes that is something negative when your former players who just helped propel you along with your great coaching skills to the Sweet 16 and America's cindarella team is posting NEGATIVE TWEETS about your departure or the way it is being conducted. Especially guys  namely DJ Cooper who turned down offers to leave Ohio..or Walter Offutt who also posted his displeasure at the way Groce is leaving..who transfered into the program.  Get that brown substance off your nose son.

Is it really allowed here for someone to tell another poster to STFU? Just because you abbreviate it doesn't change the meaning at all. This is usually quite a classy message board compared to many others out there and this kind of post doesn't belong, in my opinion.
