I may be the most hated man on this board but I will tell it like it's supposed to be told. This post tells me ENOUGH about Groce..anyone intelligent comment everyone else re-read the post.

Just don't understand why Groce left  and the guys,Wally O came just to play for him. Why not stay and build a program like Butler

Sorry to tell you, but you're not hated. You're an idiot. There's a difference.

LOL, you are nothing but an attention-whore.  You are trying your hardest to be the most hated man on the board but your attempts are so obvious it's sad.   This "keeping it real" act is so tiresome it's not funny.   I'm just trying to figure out where you are really from.  Your diction, grammar and vocabulary make me question that you could have graduated from our fine institution.  I'm guessing either Akron or Temple.

Sorry I guess I'm in the minority again but I hope he fails miserably at Illinois. How bad must he had wanted out of Athens? He accepted the job knowing he was their 6th best selection, and accepted 50% the salary they offered Shaka! What a slpa in the face. And I dont like the rumors I'm hearing of how he treated the players.

McD and Schaus better be in that room watching and listening.

So much for the emotional post game with language about how "we're building something special in Athens." Apparently, he sees no obligation to help correct the potential APR problem that he helped create.

Early morning meeting with the players?

Flight from IL is supposed to land in Athens at 8:45 am and head back to IL at 9:27 am per earlier link posted here.

And this from The Post today:

Athletic department officials said Monday that Groce will not be available to the media for at least two weeks.

2 weeks?

Agreed. He's the little yappy dog that thinks he's fierce, but instead is either hilarious cute or an annoying douche depending on your mood.

As the saying goes, "Money talks and BS walks".  I too am a little bitter but how can you blame the guy.  You can either make A. $500k and stay in Athens or B. $1.25 mil and coach for Illinois.  Um, that's a no brainer.  He isn't obligated to stay here, he is only obligated to do what is best for him and his family.  And I believe we all can agree that option B. is the better option.

I wish he had stayed and I hope our program doesn't suffer much but in the end, he had to do what he felt was best.

Another thread seems to indicate there was no pre-flight team meeting this morning.

So it is ok for Groce to leave, but if DJ would have gone to a BCS school after his freshman year like Baylor....he would be hated forever.  College athletics is messed up, with these stupid rules that just take advantage of young men.  I can't blame Groce, but DJ was loyal to him and is the main reason he got that offer and DJ will never make any money for all he has done.  It's a shame.

You don't think DJ will make any money playing basketball?   If he doesn't it's only because he doesn't want to.

I don't know if I'm going to be able to do it but I think I'm going to step away from the board for a couple of days.  There are a lot of people making snap judgements and condemning people based on little or no information. Rumors aren't necessarily facts people.  It's just a little too frustrating reading all these knee-jerk reactions.

This really sucks.  I guess I can understand it, but isn't making 500K in Athens about the same as making 1.25mil in Champaign?

I love Athens.  I miss it everyday.  How could he want to leave

Those that are saying Groce has acted out of line have never been in any kind of negotiation more complex than the purchase of a car.  They have also probably never met him.

It is impossible to be considered for a job like that and not have it be a public situation.  It is also bad business to make everything public (even if people are speculating what is going on) until the deal is done.  Once the deal was completed, he is now telling his players.  They are hearing it from him face-to-face before any public announcement is made.  He did things in the right order.

His players love him.  The athletic department staff loves him.  The community loves him.  Many of you (particularly the cancer of the message board Blitz) are acting like he has been in Vegas with a pack of hookers for the past 3 days.  Groce did not cheat on Ohio.

Well said 695.

He is doing what's best for his family.......can't knock him for that.

JG could wait one more year with these seniors....but who's to say a better job will open up next year?  Groce made Ohio basketball great and he should be able to do the same at Illinois.  He also put us into the rare air of successful b-ball programs and there's no reason why we can't stay there.

John Groce didn't go to school at Ohio. He didn't dream as a small boy of being the head coach at Ohio. I don't expect any greater loyalty to Ohio and Athens than he's given.

I just can't find it in me to blame John Groce for this situation. It's the nature of college basketball.
