All of the unique-to-Athens coffee places in walking distance to the Convo, and Groce still goes to a chain inside a chain.
Another good episode, but I realized what my biggest critique of the series is. The audience is forced to accept things we're told and not shown. In the last episode, there was a shot of Ric studying on the bus with a tutor. Instead of Russ narrating that the guys are studying, I think it would be more interesting to hear from Ric. And not in the sit-down interview setting. A quick on-camera question on the bus - "Ric, what class are you studying for? Is there a test or project coming up? What are you majoring in?" Less telling us the story, more showing us the story.
Really? You are going to judge the man based on his taste for coffee? Donkey Coffee is amazing, but I don't think it's really a big issue where he buys a cup of coffee from. Do you not want him conversing with the Athens community? I admired the fact that he knows these people at Starbucks/Kroger by name and seems to make a good impression with the community. But, I guess he should stay uptown and try to make conversation with the hipsters, who would only come to games if college basketball was like....not mainstream, dude.. or if we used vintage peach baskets.
I do agree about some of your views about the show though. It's really awkward sometimes, especially when they talk about the players studying....I may be exaggerating, but it seems like every episode Russ says the same line about the players studying, as if we are about to see an inside-look at what it's like to be a student-athlete...but then there's just an awkward pause..brief shot at Ric on his ipad...then onto something else. If they can't show us too much of what the players do, then maybe let us get to know other people involved in Ohio Basketball that do the real "behind-the-scenes work" that make it all possible---grad assistants, assistant coaches, trainers, ball boys, ticket office, season ticket holders, equipment managers, and what about Kenny Belton? He makes a difference in practice I'm sure and has a really interesting story that is ignored. It is a great show, just a few things seem to be missing. We were very spoiled by "Relentless" =) Oh and more cowbell please!
