Where she went isn't relevant to the larger story. We're just talking about it on an OU message board. By your logic, we shouldn't be interested with how our former Bobcat athletes do in the professional ranks.

ALL over the news? I did a quick search on the Plain Dealer website and then a more extensive Google search and saying it's ALL over the news would be somewhat of a stretch IMO.

Did I say we shouldn't be interested in this story? My logic questions only the contrived religious bashing, not the relevance of the story to this message board.

SOmetimes life's experience teach us.....and we get smarter.

My gramps had 2 sayings I use daily.

"wisdom is based on experience.

Experience is the name we give our mistakes"

the other thing he said right after that was "the only fool in life is the man who don't (sic) learn from his mistakes"

In my profession my residency director taught us about life in a profession....

"don't sh*t where you eat and never dip your pen in company ink"

I hope she comes out better onthe other side of this....

she would be well served by remembering the easiest of all..."if it don't look good on the front page (or evening news in this case) ......Don't do it"

Good Luck Allie you will be better for the experience .....in the bigger game of life this is a small bump...there are people out there doing far worse things daily....but if you choose to live in the public eye your poop can't stink.
Bravo! I could not have said it better myself!

Personally I think Roger Ailes does more on a daily basis (with respect to journalistic ethics, etc.)  to tarnish the Ohio name/brand than this young lady could ever do by dating an Indians player.

I have to say that I agree that we all learn from mistakes in handling situations.  I hope I have in the past, I hope I'm doing now, and in the future.  You learn the lesson and try to apply it to the next situation.

Amen!  I was shocked that there weren't huge protests with lots of signs when this guy showed up Monday evening.  No wonder the powers that be are able to continually get away with what they do - too much apathy.

Not to throw the thread off track, but I wouldn't say the NY Times is a bastian of journalistic ethics either. I think the absolute lack of journalistic integrity is present in most media today.

Religion - check.
Politics - check.

Now all we need to throw into the thread is sex.

Agree, but Fox is run by an Ohio grad - hence the call-out - a statement of a graduate's thumb print, not a political perspective.

I think Dan Rather can speak to journalistic ethics. Or Craig James.

Has anyone within 50 miles of a localTV  news outlet in any city in U.S. of A. been accused of doing serious journalism in the last 30 years.  It's all 100% fluff.  Empty talking heads.

How much objectivity is there really in sports journalism when guys like Chris Spielman or Kirk Herbstreit are calling OSU games every week?  I'm sure inside they're secretly rooting for their alma mater and all of their buddies on the coaching staff to win.

In addition to this, I would say that local sports reporters are ALMOST ALWAYS homers for the local teams. Allie is an admitted avid Indians and Browns fan... isn't that a conflict of interest? She doesn't really need to date a player to have her objectivity questioned. But the same could be said of every local sports reporters.

The talking heads here don't say "The Celtics put on an amazing performance and really outmatched  the Sixers. Let me provide you with an objective and in-depth analysis." No it's more like "We lost, but this is why the Celtics suck anyway."

what a pathetic attack on a former student athlete and fellow alum. Way to play the mean girl, Love. What's the matter, still mad that the popular girls wouldn't let you sit at their table in the cafeteria?

From the article it looks like Allie's two biggest sins are dating a douche bag with a sense of entitlement and having a former beauty queen for a mother who also has a sense of entitlement. big deal.

We're supposed to be offended that a sports reporter might have a conflict of interest because she's dating a ball player? She's reporting on box scores, not WMDs in Iraq. Lighten up, Francis.

I guess being a Bully makes you feel like a big man. congratulations.

The way I read the police report it sounded like her mother was not bribing the police.  The report said she was trying to tip the police after the matter was closed with no charges being filed on or by anybody.

As for Allie dating a person she is paid to cover, whatever.  If Smith gave up 10 runs she would cover it just like anybody else in the whole 30 seconds the game would get on the news.  I'm sure Smith's first comment in the interview would admit how bad he sucked that day.

The whole thing sounds like it was blown out of proportion.  Dumb crap like this happens all the time.

Sorry, no. All of what you said would be fine if Allie wasn't the one saying "he's an pitcher for the Indians" as if that meant he didn't need to show ID. Any idiot can say that. the rules apply to everybody.

"Tipping" a police officer? I suppose that might have been innocent enough on the part of the mom, but that is an indication of some grotesque stupidity.

I'm not going to split hairs, but according to the article she didnt say that to the bounce, she said it aftwards when the cops showed up and another cop had already taken his ID. regardless, attacking her on here because of one gossip-y article is overkill.

This whole thread - from post start thru to thread fizzle is definitive proof that there is too long a break from end of basketball season to start of (in lieu of basketball) football season...........

Which made me think - w/all the Hot Topic issues surrounding basketball, football, conference re-alignments, coaching moves, player moves, etc., etc., isn't it incredible how far baseball has fallen (from sport interest perspective, not specifically OHIO)
