Its possible that the MAC gets two bids this season. Ohio and Akron if they have then kind of season most expect would be up for consideration. Ohio is an exciting team and I'm sure the selection commitee will take a look at us.

If our RPI is > 100, we suck and the schedule only proved it.

Fuss just tweeted that the schedule is done, and that the average RPI is about 25 spots higher than last year.

False OU! FauxU!

This is more like it. I'm happy. One more game of this caliber would be perfect.

There we go boys!  Big name team that looks good on resume.  Also appears beatable as they finished last year at 15-16 overall, 5-13 in Big 12.

Now get me one surprise eye catcher on the home slate and we head into the weekend happy!

The bracketbuster could be the key for us with the rpi. If we take care of our business espn might want to place us up against Creighton in the marquee matchup of the event.  We land a primetime game against a top 25 ranked Creighton team that gives us the platform to show what we are all about.  Without VCU and Butler in the bracketbusters ESPN will need some big games for ratings. Ohio vs Creighton would be a great matchup for ESPN. Two midmajor heavyweights would be an exciting matchup.

I believe Jeff is correct in that the home schedule is done. I heard a couple of weeks ago that Ohio was trying to fill two more games with opponents similar to Memphis. Oklahoma would make one.

I think I made my point plenty clear a few weeks ago, but I think adding some meat to the schedule was a must--especially this year.  Let's face it, you've really got little to lose by doing it.  If you sweep through a no-name schedule and don't win the MAC Tournament you leave your NCAA fate in the hands of the committee.   I'm sorry, but even if we had not dropped some of those late MAC games (EMU, etc...) last season all we would've received is the flirtation of being "on the bubble," a handful of listings on the  ESPN bubble watch, thinking we had a chance--when in all reality we probably would've been left out without the MAC title.

When you have the squad we have coming back you just got to give them a two route opportunity to get to the Big Dance again.  Give them some teams that if they beat and do well in the MAC could give them both a realistic chance at both an At-Large bid and/or a MAC Title bid.  A weak OOC schedule really just gives you a one shot in Cleveland chance unless you are near flawless in all those road slugfests we're bound to struggle in occassionally.  A coulple potential wins over some teams people recognize has got to help your chances.  I thought OHIO would go this route, I hoped they would go this route and now a few glimpses with Memphis & Oklahoma that they did.  Now the rumor there may be one more makes you feel they've given the team an At-Large hope versus win in Cleveland or see you on the Bubble and in the NIT.

It still will come down to how we do in conference.  If we don't win the MAC regular season we don't get an at-large.  And if we had beaten Toledo and EMU last year and lost to Akron we would have gotten an at large. Even with almost no recognizable names on the schedule last year our RPI would have been in great shape.  Our schedule this year is fine and in no way will keep us out of the at large talk as long as we win. It's that simple.

OUVAN---agree with you on all points other than

"And if we had beaten Toledo and EMU last year and lost to Akron we would have gotten an at large."

Maybe, but I if I would've been forced to bet $50 on:
1.  OHIO makes Dance, or
2.  OHIO is listed as last 5 out

I would've put my money on choice #2.  We'll never know, but I don't like putting my fate in the committee's hands without some "name" wins.  This year may be a tad different in that we may have some name recongnition from the Sweet 16 which may help if on the Bubble Watch.

It's not logical since this year's team is not the team of prior years, but I gotta (really, I do) think that the selection committee has to give us some cred for our recent winning history in the tourney when they consider us.

Oh.  Wait.  This year's team is the team of last year and more!

Agree though that this is all just talk.  The solution is three letters.  w i n

Word I heard tonight was that schedule is finished and while it was stated here that there may be one more potential "name" opponent forthcoming, there is not another.  Oklahoma is the only nice surprise we haven't heard about.

OHIO was in fact calling all around the country trying to find 1-2 more marquee schools to play.  So despite the contentment with the status quo communicated by some on this thread,  it appears OHIO was in fact looking for a few more.  The end results was that "nobody wanted to play us, because we're too good this year."  We were willing to go to their place and not get a return game--we just wanted a few more showcase type games.  One example provided was that Oregon was looking for a game the same date we were looking for a game.  Seemed like a perfect partnership until they turned down the game because "we were too good."

One final thought was that the Bracketbuster game is potentially a marquee matchup some of us haven't considered.  It's a road game for us this year and we anticipate a Creighton'ish type matchup.

So while the administration does appear happy with the end result of the schedule, it does make me happy to know that they too desired a couple more marquee games.  They wanted them like many of us did.  They tried.  They simply couldn't find any more.  And I share this information realizing it probably wasn't confidential (as if it was I wouldn't have been told) and that for many of us it's nice to hear that  our thinking was on the same page of the braintrust within the Convo and that they were trying.

Takes two to tango. It helps that we want to play anyone, but they have to want to play us, too.
