I don't remember how they've made the announcements in the past. Were all the matchups known ahead of time, and the selection show was more about announcing which games will be on TV?

It seems the site has had a misprint or maybe they changed the date, but I guess we're going to have to wait another week to find out. Two more wins for Ohio certainly would give it a prime game.

Looks like you're right. All the social media accounts for Bracketbusters make no mention of today, but say to look out for the announcemnet on Feb 4.

This makes sense. I know that traditionally the announcement has come on that day (2 weeks before the games)... Let's hope OUr cats take care of business Wednesday and then make a statement this Saturday against Akron.

This is all from a guy that used to be only OSU Football before I got to him.  This is crap I used to do...

According to ESPN's Daily RPI, which should not change much before tomorrow's announcements here are the Top 100 RPI teams for BBuster:

Home Teams:                                Road Teams
Wichita State (16)                          Creighton (31)
Belmont (20)                                  North Dakota State (64)
Indiana State (55 - tie)                  South Dakota State (65)
St. Mary's (59)                                Eastern Kentucky (76)
Akron (72)                                       Stephen F. Austin (81)
Valparaiso (89 - tie)                      Detroit (89 - tie)
Murray State (93)                           Ohio (98)
UIC (99)                                           Evansville (100)

Other Home Teams Of Note:
Long Beach State (110)
Davidson (124)
Western Illinois (138)
Wright State (144)
Loyola Ill (165)
Youngstown State (174 - tie)

Some thoughts in guessing the opponent:
-I think the only thing we are guaranteed here is Creighton @ Belmont as the primo game.
-This year's field is overloaded with home teams. Wichita State and St. Mary's should be double digit favorites over whoever they play.
-I lean toward S Dakota St @ Wichita St as the next game. SDSt beat NDSt last night.
-Speaking of which, shame on the MAC for its scheduling this year. Scheduling is usually of no significance other than it is cool to play your rivals down the stretch. This year the MAC intertwined the first set of division games with the set from the opposite division. In the preseason, the MAC favorites were clearly Ohio and Akron, followed by Kent State. They should have made sure to have these teams play each other once before BBuster announcements. A pre-BBuster announcement Ohio-Akron matchup could have helped both teams. Again, I reference the NDSt@SDSt game last night. Kudos, Summit League.
-I think any Top 100 team is a win for Ohio, with the exception of UIC. Let's hope this does not come down to a regional flavored-game with OU@Wright State.
-Is Wichita State out of the picture? I don't think so. ESPN should want the best storylines featured in TV games. Show me a more marketable road team besides Creighton. Sweet 16 team with everyone back. DJ Cooper moving up NCAA career lists. Top assist team in the nation. Can't you just see the ESPN Full Screens now?
-OK, Wichita State is probably too bold. But what about bumping up Ohio to go play @St Mary's. It doesn't make sense regionally, but then again, who makes sense to send to St Mary's? Best regional matchup for St Mary's is Montana (RPI #121 and undefeated in conference play).
-One other storyline that could make sense: Ohio@UIC... DJ Cooper returns to Chicago. This is a worst case scenario, IMO. Here is a 4-4 Horizon team with losses at Miami and at Toledo.

That said, here are my most likely BBuster matchups:
S Dakota St @ Wichita St
Creighton @ Belmont
N Dakota St @ St Mary's
Ohio @ Indiana St
Detroit @ Murray St
Eastern Kentucky @ Akron
Evansville @ Valparaiso
Stephen F. Austin @ UIC

And % chances of Ohio opponent:
Indiana St (25%)
Murray St (20%)
Valparaiso (15%)
UIC (10%)
Wichita St (6%)
St Mary's (5%)
Wright St (5%)
Davidson (4%)
Western Illinois (2%)
Loyola Ill (2%)
Belmont (1%)
Someone Else (5%)

Update your % for Wright St to 1% as we played them 2 years ago in BB, but then again WORLDWIDE LEADER doesn't really care.

My memory of previous selections is that the (selection show or first annoucement) would announce the TV games only, and then the rest of the games and times were announced later that night or the next day. My memory could be failing me though.

In looking at the possible home teams we could play and ruling our Belmont since I would bet the farm on them playing Creighton... (in my order of preference)

Wichita St. - A long shot but Obviously the most desirable opponent.  Will probably end up in the top 25 in the RPI.  If we win @ Akron, it becomes a much more realistic possibility.

Indiana St. – Strong conference and should be favored in 7 of the 9 remaining games (except @ Wichita St and vs Creighton).  Should end up a top 50 RPI team, and the proximity with Akron on the Horizon make this a favorable matchup as well.

Valparaiso – Same reasoning as Indiana St., except the Horizon is a step below the MVC.  Should be favored to win out in their conference, with only a home game against Detroit being against a top 100 team.  Again proximity is a big plus.

St. Mary’s – Big name, would definitely get a later game on ESPN 2.  Still plays #8 Gonzaga and #45 BYU.  As mentioned before, going for a short trip to the west coast the weekend before Akron at home would be problematic.

Northern Iowa – Good conference, will keep the RPI stable, but we already play them next year here.  Seems like they would matchup better with North or South Dakota St.

Murray St. – Big name, big time player, but RPI hovering around 100.  Would be a TV game, but I don’t see this as helping us much.

After the 4, I see a big drop off. After those 6, the game could only hurt us with a  lost to a team with an RPI higher than ours.

Here is the Forecast of what teams RPI's will be on Jan 28th. According to rpiforecast.com

Home Teams                                 Road Teams

Wichita St - 15                                Creighton - 32
Belmont - 16                                  North Dakota St - 48
Indiana St - 56                               South Dakota St - 68
St Mary's - 58                                 Stephen F Austin - 69
Akron - 71                                       Eastern Kentucky - 73
Valparasio - 84                              Detroit - 96
Murray St - 89                                 Loyola MD - 105
Utah St - 90                                    Weber St - 103
Northern Iowa - 92                       Evansville - 107
Tennessee St - 95                       OHIO - 109
Oral Roberts - 104                       Iona - 114
Western Michigan - 106             Denver - 119

Here is the RPI for 2-1-13 from rpiforecast.com.

Things have gotten a bit crazy....

Home Teams                                 Road Teams

Belmont - 16                                 Creighton - 31
Wichita State- 24                          North Dakota St - 62
Indiana St - 39                               South Dakota St - 65
St Mary's - 57                                 Stephen F Austin - 73
Akron - 67                                       Detroit - 74
Western Michigan - 85                Eastern Kentucky - 93
Valparasio - 92                             Iona - 97
Murray St - 99                               OHIO - 98
Tennessee St - 101                    Evansville - 108
Oral Roberts - 102                      Denver - 112
Northern Iowa - 110                    Loyola MD - 121
Utah St - 127                                Weber St - 136

I know very little about the RPI.  I would imagine that beating Akron would give us a nice jump, but probably not enough to catch the group ahead of us from 62-74.

That said, I think its possible that coming off the Sweet 16 if we are ballpark of those schools in the RPI ESPN might favor us over them.  Mostly everyone is playing tomorrow, including Wichita State @ Northern Iowa....  How those games go will shake up these rankings quite a bit.  If we lose to Akron, I have no clue who we would play.

I could see us playing anyone from Wichita State down through Utah State.  Creighton @ Belmont is the only lock in my mind.

I wouldn't want any part of us is I were an opposing fan.  Our RPI isn't very good and we can beat just about anybody on the list. Not saying we will win but the risk in playing us isn't worth the reward.

Here's the top teams according to ESPN's RPI and BPI:

HOME
Belmont-22/41
Wichita State-28/24
Akron-53/42
Indiana State-54/66
St. Mary's-62/44
Northern Iowa-93/65
Western Michigan-96/126
Valparaiso-97/86

AWAY
Creighton-33/11
South Dakota State-70/115
North Dakota State-72/61
Eastern Kentucky-82/124
Stephen F. Austin-89/77
Ohio-91/80
Iona-99/100

Creighton-Belmont seems almost automatic since Creighton can't play Wichita State. So who does that leave for Wichita State? Could be almost any of the other teams. Ohio probably has the top name appeal and a ranking barely behind the others so I wouldn't rule it out. Otherwise Indiana State and Valpo seem like the best possibilities, especially Indiana State.

I would be happy if we played either of the MVC teams, and OK if we played Valpo.  .  I saw Andy Katz posted again he thinks it will be Creighton at St. Mary's, but I dont know why.  If that happens, who plays @ Belmont?  I think the best matchups  would be:

Creighton @ Belmont
South Dakota St. @ Wichita State
Eastern Kentucky @ Akron
Ohio @ Indiana State
Stephen F Austin @ St. Mary's
North Dakota St. @ Northern Iowa
Iona @ Western Michigan

St. Mary's could get the nod over Belmont, just based on it carrying a bigger name, not because it deserves it. And these top matchups are all about TV, so don't be surprised if they aren't very good regional matchups. I guess the good thing for Ohio is that most of the teams right in the range with them are fairly close geographically. I'd give top odds to Indiana State, with Valpo second and Wichita State as third-most likely. There's a pretty big drop-off after Creighton among the away teams.

If they do what I think they will do and ignore the RPI in favor of their own ranking system, the BPI, I think we could end up at Belmont if Creighton is playing at St. Mary's.  North Dakota State, Denver and Stephen F. Austin are the only teams that rank ahead of us of the remaining teams and they don't really have the name value we have.  Of course, with the clout that the MAC offices have we'll end with Niagara on ESPN3.
