Humble pie for dinner.  Let's hope we are able to right the ship when they visit us.

Best Point Guard played for Akron tonight and Ivo was just bad again.

Blasphemy.

Abreu and Marshall (and the rest of the team) have had this one circled for 11 months, and they played like it.   We will have the 27th circled, and I'm confident we will get it back.

In the meantime, rebounding drills galore.

Could not agree more.
You watch something like this and really start to worry beyond this season.
0-5 against quality opponents.
0-1 against Winthrop.

Because coaching is the difference between hitting layups and open jumpers. Abreu played the best game of his career and Zeke was simply excellent. That was probably the best 30 minutes Akron's played all year. Won't happen again. We'll get it back.

Dragon..not disagreeing you.
But the goose-egg against quality opponents this year, with this line-up, is alarming.

Gotta hand it to Akron, quality game.  Would have been nice to get this one, but fully expect each of us to win our home games, and as always will come down to one game in Cleveland. Looked like a great atmosphere and hopefully we can pack the Convo for OUr turn.

Other than Winthrop, which everyone agrees was bad, how many "quality" opponents have we played at home?  I'm hardly gonna be upset over losses against Memphis, Oklahoma, and UMass on the road. We're still one of the top two teams in the MAC.  Were you really surprised we lost to Akron in their gym, in the biggest game they've had in a while?  I was not.

Last year's team hadn't beaten any quality opponents at this point either.

Not surprised by loss.
Disappointed that we never made a game of it once we fell behind.
A serious toughness factor is lacking.
All I see is a coach with his head down...constantly.

They sure as heck played Louisvile tough on the road last year.   I wish I could say that about this team.

If you watched this game you saw an Ohio team who played a good 12 minutes, the 1st 12 minutes, and a good Akron team play a good 28 minutes, the last 28 minutes. End of story.
As someone else stated earlier we haven't beaten any quality teams this year.
I would be surprised if all our wins were against teams with loosing records.

I saw a team that didn't give in and cut it to 9 after falling down 13 late. Akron played VERY well and they couldn't put us away for a while. We kept creeping back to 3-5 points. I invite you to watch it again. I think you'll see it a little differently.

So if his head was up more you'd be happy?  Groce's head was up a lot against Toledo and EMU last year.  How'd that work out?  It's a different style. I agree, that he's not always "happy".

Bobby Knight was never happy. And man, he sucked at coaching . . .

No. They're still Akron, and we're still Ohio. Nothing that happens in life, be it on a basketball court or otherwise, will cause me to express any sort of humility towards them.

Ohio seniors: 9 - 31 from the floor.
Ohio juniors 12 - 21.

I doubt that happens in the return game in Athens. Plus, I doubt Abreu and Zeke play as well as they did tonight.

Don't forget a good showing tonight would have gone a long way in getting us a quality opponent in the bracket busters. Should be interesting to see where we travel to.

Disagree.  DJ had 6 - 8 assists screwed up by teammates that either missed easy shots or were fouled.  Abreau played as well as he can, But DJ "ran" the better game.

Cannot win against Akron's bigs with Ivo taking 1 shot in 22 minutes and having 2 rebounds.  Smith was 4 for 5 at the the free throw line but had only 2 bounds.  Green was in for 4 minutes.  No production.  You cannot win with 21 versus 39 rebounds unless you are hitting at an awesome percentage.  We did not shoot well nor distribute the ball well after the first 12 minute.  Offut was missing the short shots, and was expecting to get bailed out by foul calls that did not come.  DJ was 3 for 11, and looked for his three instead of the clean open pass.. A number of overly risky passes were made that  if successful would have been great assists, but were in traffic with not enough of an opening to get through.  Baltic must be more aggressive when we play against this kind of height.  He needs to make moves to the basket.  For Ohio to play at the level they played last year Offutt needs to play his game well.  I thought he was on his game against Toledo and it may be that Akron's bigs just played much better in the paint and we did not counter it with our bigs to allow Offutt to make his cuts and layups without having his shot affected.  Tough game, but I hope this sends the message to our players and we figure out a way to sustain the kind of play we had the first 12 minutes.  We need to twist the daggar once we have a team like Akron on the run.

I'm betting that in the 'prediction' thread that most had us losing today.

'kron played quite well, so they won.  Not concerned about beating them at The Convo (though I hope we do).  Just want to beat them when it counts.

We play moments of fine ball--defense, steals, fast breaks, offense, shooting.

We played okay today. We did not play well enough.

But it's time of year when moments are not enough.  Must play the whole game that way.

While this really sucks, it means little in the grand scheme of things.  A win over Akron on the road would have been nice, but March is where it'll be at.  Unless we went undefeated until a MAC title game loss (we're good, but not THAT good,) we still needed to win in March.  Other than the fact we gave up 86 points, I'm moving forward to next week.

We played their game tonight for 28 minutes and lost by 14 when many teams would lose by 25.  I was impressed by them, but we got their BEST shot.  If we played our game, we would have won tonight.  As JSF has said, they won't do it again.

The game in Athens will be one of the most electric atmospheres we've seen in quite some time.  Our boys will be absolutely pissed when Akron comes to the Convo and I'm willing to bet we have a crowd that could almost fill their gym twice.

When the MAC Championship takes place in Cleveland, please drive the bus up I-71.  If you take I-77 then leave #23 at home.  Two trips this year up that route and all you get is:  6'9"  two games--two points, and his man today ate him for supper.  I still scratch my head.  6'9" and in two games not one offensive stick back.

Saw Ric and TJ battling to cover the same guy and had the energy to get on the offensive boards too.

I know, he does SOOO many other things that do not show up in the box score, right!

Why when Akron switched and Zeke covered DJ out front did DJ not go right at him and see what might happen?
