It really is a joke to compare Abreu to DJ Cooper. Cooper, in a lot of people's opinions, is the best point guard in the history of the MAC. Abreu is nowhere near that, and isn't even the best player on is own team most nights.

Both of these teams are great teams, but at the end of the day which one will make a bigger name for themselves? Ohio, easily. Ohio has the right tools to play with the big boys, a top PG in the nation, great perimeter defense and 3-point shooting. Living and dying by the three isn't a bad thing when you are trying to play with teams that have more size than you such as UNC last year. If Akron wins the MAC they will probably not make it past the first round, if Ohio wins the MAC look for another tourny run, Cooper just has the clutch gene, and he is not afraid of going up against anyone. Offutt hasn't even got close to as aggressive as he was at the end of last year offensively, I expect him to get back in form by the tournament and be our second best offensive weapon when it is all said and done. Bobcats are right on track to win the MAC tourny again and make another tournament run.

By the way, is there an official/unofficial game watch happening in the Columbus area?  Apparently, with WOW! you have to have "signature cable" to get ESPNU.

There is not an official game watch.  I'm the only one who has been planning "official" things, and I simply didn't have time (I do also have a job & wife/family - amazingly enough she deals with my obsession).  However, if anyone has a location in mind with broadcast sound, I say start a separate thread so we can spread the word.

Zips are unveiling a new intro video for the game saturday, it is on their forum. Nothing compares to what OU puts out for intro videos though.

here's the video www.youtube.com/watch

I like the part where it says they have the greatest home court advantage. lulz.

all of this publicity has pushed their twitter account up to 1,727 followers. Ohio hasn't done anything to promote their twitter account but has 2,144. Poor Akron, always the bridesmaid..

Huh? I just checked and our Twitter account has 11,552 followers.

I could make that intro video with my old camcorder. Think bigger? I think not.

To claim tradition, shouldn't one have at least one NCAA tourney win?

That is athletics, I think he was talking about Ohio Men's basketball.

Ohio Athletics-11,552
@ohiobobcats
Ohio Men's hoops-2,145
@OhioMensBBall

Akron Athletics-3,035
@FollowTheRoo
Akron Men's hoops-1,727
@ZipsMBB

In unrelated news, Jason Arkley pointed out that our season men's hoops attendance is higher than the sellout crowd Akron is expecting tomorrow.

No official watch but I wouldn't mind meeting some Bobcats to watch this game. Anyone in the Gahanna/NE Columbus area? I usually hit up one of the sports' bars near me but always nice to run into other OHIO fans.

I like the name @FollowTheRoo.

Is that video better or worse than the rivalry video they made a year or two ago?

Akron #13's reaction is priceless.  Just throws up his arms like...what else can I do?

I'm excited about this game because Akron has put together a fine basketball team.

HOWEVER...

Don't ever fool me that they can make good motivational videos, have Twitter followers, or be anything other than 1/3 the university of Ohio. The absolute definition of  a safety school.

After all, everyone knows Akron's fight song.

I've read all the hype and all the articles leading up to this game and the 1 returning thought that I have is no one has mentioned Keely and his outstanding play this year. All the hype is on DJ, and rightfully so.
Like many my concerns are rebounding. If the 2 teams are even then that's a plus for us.
I am also concerned about trips to the line. We all know that the opponents are getting there more than us. We need to even this stat out as well.

I noticed that not one highlight they showed in the video was against Ohio.  Wonder why that is?  ;)

I agree.  Keely has really come a long way in his 4 years here, and while he may not have the height of Zeke, he has the beef to make space for himself against Akron in the post.

Keely's freshman year @Akron was that 2 OT game...  Keely was a monster.. 16 points and 20 boards.
Keely is averaging 15 ppg in the MAC this year.

Would have liked to see JC call a timeout, somewhere during there run, to try to turn Mo around.
