Perimeter, looks like you used ESPN's rebounding numbers, which are off from the actual numbers for some reason. And as a look at rebounding percentage, in the MAC title game, Ohio got 53.8% of defensive rebounds (very bad) and 46.9% of offensive rebounds (very good) in the MAC title game. Both teams crashed the offensive boards that game. In Ohio's big home win, it got 71.4% of defensive rebounds (good) and 32% of offensive rebounds (average). In the loss at Akron last year, Ohio got 68.9% of defensive rebounds (average) and 19.5% of offensive rebounds (bad). As a whole, Ohio held its own on the boards better than most against Akron and better than it did on average against other foes last year. Naturally, the Bobcats lost the game at Akron where they were mostly one-and-done on the offensive end. They gave up a terrible amount of offensive rebounds in the title game but made up for it because the Zips did the same. There certainly wasn't a trend that either team was particularly good rebounding on one end, but the team that rebounded better certainly had an edge.

This has to be the most anticipation we've had for a regular season game since 2005, no?

I can't recall a game I've anticipated more. Which game in '05 do you refer to?

I'm guessing when we hosted Buffalo. Or it could have been when we went up there. They had that game circled.

Yeah, Buffalo. That was the, "Is this team for real?" game.

OK, I'll say it now. What worries me, as much as Treadwell & Forsythe (note I did not say Zeke or Abreau) - is MAC refs. In a loud JAR.

Rebounding is certainly critical, and we likely lose on those stats. But - hit 12/3's, and 80% from FT line - we win. We are due to be hot from 3 - Kellog, Walt, etc....................

Looking forward to this one.  Saturday is OUr Superbowl.  Absolutely love watching Cooper and Abreu go at it.  Great basketball and passion.  I watched Akron vs BG last night.  While BG may not be any good this year, it is easy to see that they have A LOT of weapons.  Akron is a very good team and it's obvious that they are looking for some redemption on Saturday.

Yes.  They have the advantage at the post.   But, we can't afford to get shy down low. Get Zeke in some foul trouble and take some charges against Treadwell.  Should be a hostile environment. Like many have already said : Get into their heads like usual, be aggressive on defense, good ball movement, and battle for every rebound.  Do all this and their beloved streak is toast.

I disagree.  This is THEIR Superbowl.  Akron has had this one circled on their calendar since December.  I have to wonder what happens to them mentally if OUr guys can steal one from them in the JAR.  Our guys are pumped and ready too, but because it's a road game, I think it's a little different.  For some reason, I have a little quiet confidence that JC's guys, partly because of him, partly because it's a veteran team, are going to go in there and play a nice, solid game.  Plus, it sounds like there is going to be a strong Bobcat contingent in the building, which always helps.

Apparently over on the Zips boards they question our students ability to party in light of the whole "fugitive fest". They must be super delusional up in Kron. At least they admit to losing to us in basketball quite a bit

Probably circled on their calendar since March.  I agree....the pressure's got to be greater on them.  They've lost 5 of last 6 games to us and somehow feel they were one MAC championship bucket away from being the MAC Sweet Sixteen team last year.  They've had some rough starts vs. Buffalo and Kent, maybe they'll play tight early on and we can get a nice run on them early.  It'd be especially nice beating them again since some of their DB fans were chanting "One and Done" in Quicken East Parking Garage after last year's Championship game.  But if we can't bring home a win there, they still have to come through Athens.

I am very excited to see what kind of road crowd we have.  I cannot wait to here "this is our house," anything directed at Abreu and my personal favorite chant of all-time: "can't read, can't write, Akron" raining down from the O Zone.

In the last 3 years both teams are 3-3 in head to head conference play, 2-1 at home. The difference is Akron's 3 wins have all been by 5 points or less, but their 3 losses were by 9,25,24. Even though the record is the same I feel that there's more pressure on Akron to win this one because they don't want to come into Athens down a game in a must win situation after getting blown out there the last 2 years. Last year's "over-rated" chants by the OZone still ring in their ears.

Jeff McKinney has hit the nail on the head with his concerns about Treadwell.  Like Jeff, I believe that Treadwell could be the key to this game.  I have some basketball friends very close to the Zip program and they have been telling me all along that Treadwell is the key to their team.  Sure, we cannot allow Zeke to have a career game, or Abreu to play out of his mind.....but down in the trenches where the game will be decided is where you will find Treadwell.  If he is able to get the ball down low, and can attack our defenders on the blocks where we tend to foul, the Bobcats could be in deep trouble.  Something to watch for:  As 'kron is running their sets, trying to look inside, how much ball pressure will Ohio be able to generate ???   If we are not able to pressure the basketball to take away inside passing lanes and sight lines, then our defensive issues inside will be exposed.  If we bring great energy to our perimeter defense we may be able to make it difficult for the Zips to get the ball where they want, when they want it.   Ball pressure can hide other "sins".   For this to happen, we must play with great energy, which translates into Walter not getting in foul trouble early, Ric bringing his aggressive hustle to the fray, along with Nick and DJ not "resting" on defense !   As you watch this game develop, take a look to see if Akron is able to get the ball down low to Treadwll and Zeke.   Take a closer look and try to determine how and why that "might", or might not happen.     To effectively pressure the basketball and make looking inside difficult requires bringing great energy to the floor.  This piece of the puzzle is not always easy to find on the road, and is my contributing link to "life on the road".    We find that energy easier at home in the Convo. (Thanks O-Zone, and 110!)   Hopefully, that energy can also be generated on the road by a loud Zip crowd.  It doesnt really matter that they might not be on "our" side.  The atmosphere can help our energy level!   Our kids have to take that excitement in the building and use it !!   It was always easy to come to the Convo to play because you could count on an excited crowd to "Stand Up and Cheer"   Presto  !!  High Energy !  Ball Pressure ! Strong Inside post "D" , loose balls, hustle plays !     Go Cats !

They could start in the play-in round, win the national title this year, and they still wouldn't be ahead of us in all-time NCAA Tournament wins.

That isn't me being arrogant, that is just a fact.

I'll give Akron the credit they deserve.  They're a very well coached, tough, and heady squad.

What I won't give them, is the assumption that if Walsh's jumper goes in, that they end up in the Sweet Sixteen.  If they played Michigan last year in the Dance, I believe they lose by 8+ points.  Why?  Matchups.  We were great at defending the 3, and that was Michigan's offensive strength.  Also, Abreu is a pretty decent guard.  But, he is not Coop.  DJ was in Burke's head, and they essentially cancelled each other out, but I'd give the W to DJ just because he held Trey in check for most of the game.  Burke would've ate Alex alive, and Michigan's entire offense would've clicked.

I have no idea what game you watched, but it was not the same game I watched.  BG is HORRID.  I'm not sure they have one "weapon", let alone "A LOT" of them.  Bad.

That is unfair OUV.  You pulled that out of a long, very good post breaking down the matchup, and the poster was referring to Demetrius Treadwell's quote about wanting to go 16-0 in the MAC and be the first mid-major to win the national title....and that this is the first real test for them (as in the players) to back up that line of thought.

It's off the topic of the Akron game, but BG should be better. They have two guys that seem to be good (not really good or great) MAC players in Crawford and Calhoun, but they don't put it together.  Louis Orr has to be on thin ice up there.

Read the BG fan board some time. They are literally begging for Orr to be fired. I agree that it's time.

Sorry.  I was giving my thoughts about Akron.  Not BG.  I guess I could have worded that a little better.

By the way, is there an official/unofficial game watch happening in the Columbus area?  Apparently, with WOW! you have to have "signature cable" to get ESPNU.

I am not a clever man. And yes, we have the tickets. This is one of those days where I couldn't find my own ass with two hands and a map.
