[QUOTE=Bleed Green & White]Gone are the days when this cheer used to be O! U! *clap* *clap* (where you would spell it out with your arms), but I think it's for the better.  I think the "Oh Yeah" came into use around '05-'06.

Count me in +4 for this also from section 213 and we'll spread the word to the community/family types on that side of the convo upper bowl.  Quick note, the chant always makes me think of a good AHS friend of mine who did his undergrad at OU back in the mid 80s as it was one of his favorites, so the '05-'06 dating was maybe when it came back but not when it started.

OU OH YEAH!

The Ou Oh Yeah will happen

Before tip.

You will know when we are starting because O Zone leaders will head to the walkway of the Convo.

All great stuff, can't wait to see it all in action! While we're on this topic, our fight song DOES have words!

Stand up and cheer
Cheer loud and long for old Ohio
For today we raise
The Green and White above the rest

Our team is fighting,
And we are bound to win the fray
We’ve got the team,
We’ve got the steam,
For this is old Ohio’s day!

I see more and more people singing it every year, but if you don't know them--commit this to memory!

To appease everyone-ish, why not do "OHHHH" then "HIOOOOO" instead of or in addition to OU, OH YEA!?

I love the OU, OH YEA chant if I'm being honest but I get the whole exclusivity thing too and wanting to emphasize OHIO. Doing the O-HIO is not O-H, I-O like OSU but still get's "OUr" name out there (crowd, TV, etc). Just imagine one side yelling OH (but not too long) then the other side responding "HIO." I think it'd work fantastically and sound awesome in the Convo and Peden for that matter. Plus the 110 (as an alum myself) would appreciate the "'hio" portion.

If you wanted to get really fancy, do the chat back and for to spell out OHIO 5-7 times then end with HIOOOOOOO... for a little while (if it fits into the game at that point). I guess it'd ultimately need to be planned for how many times so the HIOOO-ing doesn't end and restart with "Ohhhhh-ing."

Only wish I could be there Wednesday in person.

This is what I've been advocating as well.  O on one side, HIO! on the other.  Simple, in line with -- and taking control of -- our brand, and differentiating from the cheer they do in Cbus.  Make this happen and you have something.

I would suggest also doing this before the 2nd half starts too, just my 2 cents.

That whole effort was undermined by the cheerleaders doing a Convo-wide "Let's go - Bobcats". It had the same effect they were going for, I guess.

I feel like the university knew about our plan and wanting to get away from the whole OU thing told the cheerleader and PA announcer to do this chant. Maybe i am being paranoid, but it seems a little fishy to bust this new chant out the same night we planned this.

Of course it was. And it was pretty weak. Obviously force fed, and ended up actually pretty lame and embarrassing. "Hey, let's try to show all the Akron fans here that we follow direction well and can feign enthusiasm for a chant we have never heard before".

"Let's Go - Bobcats" do you mean?  You've never heard that before?  That's besides the point anyway.

Whatever your answer, I don't think the Ozone should be waiting for permission or whatever to do a perfectly respectable chant (OU - OH YEAH).  If you say you are going to do it right before the tip and you get on here and spread the news then come hell or high water that's what you should do.  Think "flash mob" --  if there's some unsuspecting noise or people in your way you don't wait or change your plans or do it another day, you go for it just as planned otherwise it's likely nobody is going to follow your "plans" again.  Maybe that's a bad example but the Ozone kept bumping the thread and posting in giant bold letters it was happening and then nothing.  Embarassing.

The first time they did "Let's go... Bobcats," it sounded terrific.  The second time around, yeah it wasn't great.

It seems a little tin-foiled helmet to me.  However, if it's true, then that ticks me off pretty bad.  I was told that marketing knew what they were going to be doing, so it should have been that.

For all the talk/hype, there was no attempt to start it at tip-off. Very disappointed that they didn't give it a try.

I was told that the athletic dept. had planned for the O Zone to start "OU-Oh Yeah" at tip-off, but the O Zone either forgot or changed their minds at the last minute. The cheerleaders/PA aren't allowed to start "OU-Oh Yeah" because McDavis is vehemently against using the OU acronym. But most of those working in the AD like it and try to encourage the students to start it on their own.

Plain and simple - it sounded to me like the O Zone dropped the ball here. There's no great conspiracy at play.

There were several Ozoners through the gym before the game with signs in hand motioning to do it, but then they had everyone do the "Let's go... Bobcats" chant.  I wouldn't call it a conspiracy, but bad timing.

"Let's go Bobcats" was at around 7-9 minutes pregame, though. The idea of the OU-Oh Yeah chant (from what I heard and was told) was to do it right at tip-off. I saw no effort to make it happen in any of the sections near me behind the OU bench.

Dear Ozone,

You chant "Bullshit!  Bullshit!  Bullshit" and "You, You, You,You, Suuuuuuuuck"  without any problem...  Yet, you let the marketing dept or whoever convinced you that "Let's go, Bobcats" is better than "OU, Oh, Yeah!"  I'm sorry, but you really dropped the ball.  It doesn't change what happened on the court, but C'MON.  Man up and follow through.  You "pussied out" BIG TIME.

Okay. I need to clarify this. Many of you saw me go around before the game and spread the word. I sent an email to marketing a couple of days ago and was told that of course, they didn't suggest doing it, but that it would be best to do after the Kellogg video. I was also told not to tell anyone about the Kellogg video. The Kellogg video started airing at 4:45ish and the Let's go... bobcats... chant went until 1:27 left. at that time I gave the signal to the other side of the arena to do it, and was waved off. The OU guy had already moved downwards to his seat too. So, I cannot fault the marketing department, they were stand-up in this case.

It did not make me a happy chappy, because this was planned and then backed out on. I went over there and expressed my frustration, and no attempt was made to do it during half because I knew they were doing Let's go again.

So, apologies to everyone that got their hopes up. I did too. I'm also a bit salty that I walked around the entire f%$&ing Convo spreading the word and it was aborted.

A'ight, read the damn story I just posted. I do not appreciate that comment. I am just as pissed about it as the rest of you are. Sorry to have wasted your time.
