"It took a  buzzer beater to beat an under .500 Miami team on our Senior day. We are never going to win the MAC tournament. And if we get lucky and win the MAC tournament, we definitely won't advance after that." - Monroe 2010

The depths of your animus are a bit frightening.

You may think it's impressive to do apparent research on ancient thoughts, especially to point out how one may have been incorrect.  I think it's OCD and I feel sorry for the smallness of your life.

Let's take a more current, relevant thought...like your genius chat-room posit yeserday that a prolonged stretch of holding redhawk scoreless would not be integral to a come from behind.

You claimed that a 14-0 run would help us win the game. I merely pointed out that you can't have a 14-0 run without scoring 14 points.

You think the biggest problem with a 58-54 win is our defense, I think its our offense. No need to get defensive about it.

There was nothing wrong with our defense yesterday. For the season, on the whole, yeah I think you could argue we're not nearly as good on the D side as we have been in past years (reference how many individuals have had career days against us this season)...but yesterday it wasn't the problem.

The problem was 110% our "offense". We played well the first 4 minutes and the last 12 minutes. The 24 minutes in between were atrocious.

Let's hope they were just flat from being on break all week and/or the seniors got caught up in the emotion of senior night (it happens) and now we're good to go for Cleveland.

On a side note, I only make it to a couple games in the Convo each year and this is the first game I noticed Trent's retired jersey, so I apologize if I'm a year late to this party. It's not worth it's own thread so I'll just ask the question here.....what's up with the years being incorrect on his jersey in the rafters? It says '93-'95 when he actually played for us from '92-'95. 1992-93 was his freshman season, 93-94 was the NCAA tourney year and 94-95 was the preseason and postseason NIT season. It even says 92-95 in the OU program record books but they flubbed it on his jersey in the rafters? Talk about an oops. What gives?

Our offense is from the outside, so not particularly geared to getting hoops at the rim...not geared particularly to driving to the rim, breaking down the other side's D, leading to open shots (of any type) for us.  So, given that our 3-ball shooting has not been particularly good lately, examination of our defense is very significant.

Sure, redhawk didn't score many yesterday.  But if you watched that game and concluded other than these two things 1) redhawk had very little physical ability on the floor, and 2) before our run, we kept getting broken down inside for lay-ups, then you and I will never agree because we see the game in very different ways.

Shout out to OUBob for giving me and my son the seat upgrade to Monroe's seats...It was right when we turned it around.

And a shout out to I believe Brian Smith...or whoever it is in section 1 behind the Miami bench with the charlie head and red shirt making Charlie motions.  Really funny to watch.

I'm sorry, I only sport a red turtleneck, mustache and grey blazer for my Charles Bronson from "The Mechanic" impersonation.

BG&W brought some OZone to the OldZone with his Charlie gear. Awesome.

bobcat695 ... if you can, you should post a pic for the people who didn't get to see him in action.

So the dude with the Coles big head over his face behind the Miami bench was an OU fan?

Through the first 30 or so minutes, that was the most brutal game I have watched in some time.  You knew a few things were going to happen: 1) we were going to brick 80% of our shots, 2) no offensive rebounds so we were 1-and-done, and 3) Miami was going to milk 33 of the 35 seconds off the shot clock every possession.  Stevie and Jon were huge in this game, Jon with his boards and unexpected points and Stevie with his defense and transition points.  Late in the game with us up by a few when Nick re-entered the game, I had a feeling he was going to bury a shot if he got a good look, and his bucket sealed it.  It was a disappointing performance through most of the game, but it was great to see them not quit and make the run to retake control of the game.

Now, on to Cleveland on Friday!

Glad to see "Charlie" made it. The folks behind me had several small children. WHilst explaining what was going on withthe band and the cheerleaders, the game and such....the woman kept yellling at the Miami coach...."SIT DOWN CHARLIE!" while the father was telling the kids the Akron mascot ...a zip....was a form of Donkey.....well OK ...Dambrot is an ass but he is hardly their mascot. ....I guess life in the upper deck you miss a lot.....good thing I am a serial seat upgrader.

Yes! He's a former OZoner and now has season tickets in Section 1. He told me the Charlie fathead was a Christmas gift from his sister... lol.

Photo: Charlie Coles made a cameo in the Convo Saturday. I thought once he retired he'd stop making the trip from Oxford.

ROFLMAO.

Man I was in the upper bowl right behind him so I didn't get to see that (or at least didn't notice it). That is EPIC.

Wow....great!   Couldn't see it from my seat but was told about it afterwards.  Did the Ozone do a "sit down Charlie"?

I liked how he was sure to take the red shirt off after taking on the Charlie identity every time.  He was NOT going to be seen in a red shirt without the Charlie head on.

I'm glad folks enjoyed my return to the Convo.  That building is truly my favorite and while I should have stayed away for a few years to let Johnnie and his “era” begin, I just couldn’t miss waving at my friends in the O Zone. They were small on Saturday, but rockin as usual.  Same with the band, I wanted to show them some of my dance moves… maybe next year.

I don't know if I was the reason, but Fiami (oops!) moved their on the court huddles more towards the baseline after the first timeout.  I guess they didn’t want my advice and were trying to get away from my awesome visage.

You know, I may go up the Cleveland this weekend.  I know my Men of Miami more than likely won’t be up there, but them Bobcats are a really good team and I want to see them go all the way.  Can’t miss some #MACtion in the Q!

Love & Honor (& Go Bobcats!),

-Charles

PS: I picked up a sweet sweatshirt in Columbus a while back...  whatcha think?  #swag

Another huge contribution from Jon Smith was his defense on Felder. I think Felder had 16-18 points before Smith pretty much shut him down the rest of the game.

Not only did Nick have a big shot after being pretty much non-existent most of the game, but the same could be said about Ivo (3-pt basket in final minutes) and TJ (rebound basket in final minutes).
