Are those projections just thru the end of regular season conference play?  With a few MAC tourney games and some postseason games, he still might have a shot at 1,000.

yes, regular season - not even the MAC Tourney.

Updated projections below:

Career stats after 19 games*:
Points: 1863
Assists: 850
Steals: 297
Rebounds: 578

End of regular season projections (based on first 19 games)
Points: 2032 (down from 2050)
Assists: 950
Steals: 322
Rebounds: 620

Projected to break 900 assists either at the end of the game at Central or beginning of home game against Kent on Saturday, Feb. 16th (Drop a Dime Night?)

Projected to break 2,000 points at BG on March 2nd   (Would need to average 15 points a game to break 2,000 points at home against Akron).

* based on the numbers I have - perhaps someone can verify.

Troutman... you mean the guy who dribbled the ball straight out of bounds when we had a chance to knock off Florida in the round of 64 in 2005?

A great career perhaps, but that's all I remember of him.

Well there were a few other historic fails in that game too (Fears breakaway dunk fail in particular). If that's all you remember then you missed a lot of hustle and hard play.

I would be perfectly happy w/any team that starts w/Sonny then pick the other top four to fill the starting five! Sonny was Great moving w/o the ball, and a slasher (and would have been great for DJ). Good defender as well, and quick to push the ball up the court on TO's.

I don't consider Fears' missed dunk as one of the deciding factors of that game. From my memory, a foul should have been called on Matt Walsh, and Mychal Green tied the game on a three pointer in transition on our next posession. Not collecting David Lee's airball and the ensuing and-one layup ended the game.

Troutman was a frustrating player for me to watch. He could go off for 25 points one night and struggle to score eight the next. I've never seen such dramatic differences in a player's peaks and valleys than Troutman's.

No doubt his jersey should hang in the rafters. Imagine if him and Trent were together here at the same time.

What three players would you add to this team? Coach?

Howard Jolliff, C, played briefly in NBA, but was hampered by knee problems
Mike Haley, G, first time all-Ohio in H.S. at Portsmouth, member Ohio Elite 8 team
Don Hilt, F, member of Ohio Elite 8 team

There are many others to be considered -- McDivitt, Hunter, Canine, Jackson, Luckett, Love (Craig, not The), Storey, Joyce, Devereaux and Williams to name a few -- but these three, I think, would make the best team with DJ and Trent.

First player to add is Dave Jamerson - his shooting spreads the floor - opens up the lanes.

Assuming that this chart is correct, DJ will pas Bobby Hurley in the number of games he played too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_Division_I_men'...

Also, I'd put Eddie Hicks on that team.  You need a stopper.

David Lighty has that record - 157 - He won't get that but could get to top 20

I'd like to throw a plug in here again for senior night to be against Akron and not Miami which is during spring break and most students will be out of town.  A full house would be a nice tribute for this group of players.

What year did assists become an official statistic ? I am sure Oscar Robertson or Pistol Pete would have been up on the list

Their hurdle is that freshmen were not eligible.  They played 88 and 83 varsity games respectively.  That said, Robertson had 425 assists over his junior and senior season - so 900 would not have been a lock.  DJ's assist per game is higher than Oscars.

Oscar and Pete played without a 3 point shot or shot clock. How many of DJ's points are from 3's ?

That Oscar Robertson guy was somewhat of a good basketball player.

SHould get the career 3 PT fg record soon. May already own the 3 pt FG attempted but probably won't get Jamersons overall FGa record..

Tommy had 259 career 3 PT FG - could come down to the wire. DJ owned career 3 pt FG attempts before this season started - once done w/this year likely be a mark that will never be broken (unless Jack Taylor/Soph transfers from Grinnell!). Jamerson's career FG attempted record is quite a stretch - 1,770 (DJ 1,564 career to date - would need about 15+ attempts per game rest of season - and that with decent post season run).

When you take a look at all the career records - it's pretty amazing how many DJ will own or be in the top 5 in! Even likley in top 20 for stats like rebounds!

Kid is incredible - one of the best bobcats I've seen. It's a shame his size might keep him off many NBA radars. Love watching him play.

The more assists dj gets, the happier I am.  When he is dishing and getting into the lane he can dominate the game.  When he stands out on the perimeter and jacks up threes, I think he is less effective.  He can be frustrating at times but he is absolutely the best all around player in the MAC today.

Jay Bilas of ESPN recognized DJ as the #1 passer in the Nation last night (above Trey Burke).

And how many games this season has he been "standing out on the perimeter and jacking up threes"?

The funny thing about Cooper is he makes just enough of those ridiculous 3's...

I am really hoping he somehow finds a way to 1000 assists.  If we make a nice run and he dishes it a lot, it is certainly possible.

edit:  Just did some quick math.  15 games left counting 3 MAC tourney games.  At current season averages, that would give him 123 more assists, bumping his career total all the way up to 978...  If we made another run......

Well, since you asked, just about all of them - at some point in the game. YTD 3 pt stats - 41/117 - .352%. In fact seven (yes 7) players on the team have a better 3 pt shooting %. Now, a lot of his attempts have been when we had a bit of a lead, early in the possession clock, and of the "put the dagger in" type (seems to miss a lot more of those to me). My bet is his assts avg would be nearly a full point higher (and leading the nation as opposed to 2nd) if just one more of those a game was a more determined effort to work the offense and try to get a better shot or dish to higher % shooter/position. I ain't yellin' and screamin about this, I love what he is doing this year, but facts (both observed and recorded) - is facts.

Dag, I said he was the best player in the MAC.

I simply have observed in every game I've see it comes to some point in the game where he jacks up a three in the first 10 seconds of the shot clock...that is frustrating.  Also agree he hits just enough of them.  Interesting stat that so many are shooting better 3-ball per centages this.  So, maybe JC has put a leash on them or they have all matured as players (maybe a bit of both).
