Per MAC people on twitter, largest MAC tournament loss is 32 points by Ball State in 1986 (Memphis 95, Ball State 63 - in Baton Rouge)

We're at 42 right now.

I don't have a problem with pressing still, it's the damn NCAA Tournament.

I was looking up that fact on the MAC site. As expected, dating back every 40 years, the MAC doesn't get blown often.

Akron now has a point guard in jail and, likely, the worst loss in MAC NCAA history. Great job Zippy!

Kenny Smith refused to call Alex Abreu by his name when talking about him at the half because he was suspended, lol

I get a kick out of those who question why we didn't play Akron as VCU is tonight.  That is their system.  Smart recruits certain athletes specifically to play that way.  To think that any team could just turn that on, and do it anyway as well as VCU for just one specific game, is delusional.  The rotations, traps, and all their variations take a great deal of time to develop so that you aren't giving up easy ones at the other end.  DJ never would have been able to play the necessary minutes.  Reggie, in the back, never would have been able to cover the ground needed.  TJ would have fouled even more, though that is hard to imagine.

Remember when everyone thought the MAC needed 2 bids?

This just blew any chance of that happening before about 2020

Obviously, MAC recruiting over the last ten years has really fallen off.  I would say most MAC teams are lucky to get a "stud" every other year.  That probably gives them three guys who can compete.  Then, all you have to play with is guys that ONLY other MAC teams or MAC level teams also recruited.  Unless and until the MAC starts getting more and better athletes they are destined to be the 15-20th league in the country.  You just MUST get ONE real "stud" minimum each year and then get those guys everyone else in the conference is recruiting.

Looks like Christian got one "stud" in Ndour this year (Big East offers as I recall).  I think the rest of the recruits (as I recall) were basically recruited only by MAC or MAC level schools.

Wingfield had a lot of high level interest according to scout

2005 is the last year I thought the conference deserved two bids.

Well, if we wanted to do it ourselves, maybe we shouldn't have gone 0-for-3 against them. They were there. We weren't.

It's obviously a terrible result for the conference, but I don't think it will have much impact in future years. This was a case of Akron facing a better team in a game that would have been an abysmal matchup even if they were at full strength. Take away Abreu, have VCU hit everything they shot, and add some flu, and you get a serious beatdown. Once the wheels were off, only Treadwell showed any fight or mental toughness. He's gonna be really good next year.

This is exactly what I mean:

Wingfield...

Signed with Ohio . Offers from Ohio, St. Bonaventure, Ball St., Kent St., Akron, Toledo, BG, Stony Brook and St. Francis.

He is typical of the guy everyone in the MAC is after.  I don't see any Big 10 or Big East offers.  I guess the Bonnies would be his "top" offer??

Also noted that for the year VCU goes 8 deep (over 10 minutes).

Wasn't this the team and personnel that could play 10 deep and play 94 feet of fast paced hoops under a JG system?  We may not have been able to do it as well as VCU or to this extent, but settling for a half court game where there was no pressure on the ball and let them toss it into the post all night just seemed like playing into their hands.  Especially considering their missing their #1 point guard and have a marginal back-up.  I just think we let them empose their will on us by letting them play a half court game vs. focusing on our strenght of speed.

Thanks for posting what I was about to post,  all we had to do was beat Akron in 1 out of 3 games .. the last game for the MAC championship. We didn't get it done even with Abreu out. They deserved to be there. VCU would have blown us off the court too.

My understanding is we signed him before the bigger schools got to offering him. People will correct me if I'm wrong.

I've heard this, but yet to see any proof.  However, a few of my UC friends have seen him play and think that UC definitely dropped the ball on this kid.

Correct. Similar to Lavert.

Scouts page shows interest from some very good basketball programs

JSF, I am just going by what is on the recruiting page.  You can look the other guys up and see the same thing.  All the MAC and MAC type schools are after the same guys so they have lots of offers.  Ndour has FEWER offers but much higher quality.

And I still say if we could get one guy like Ndour (Big East/Big10 type quality) every year and they work out, we'd be fine.  Actually, Stevie Taylor with a Providence offer was a pretty good signee in 2011.

And, if you noticed the VCU guard from Ghana was offered by Ohio.  Too bad we didn't get him.

Oh, also, there is a difference between "interest" and "offer".  I also don't care about Scout.  If a guy was good the "Bigs" coaches would OFFER not just say I have interest in you!

All of our 2013 recruits signed early.  I think if they waited until they played out their seasons, more than likely some larger offers would have rolled along.

Well hopefully this one sticks.  Maybe because he's a 4 year I'm most excited about him coming in to the program.

The jury is always out on recruits. Stevie Taylor may have been seen as a "stud" from his offers...but so far there's been little to back up the hype.

Just give me some guys with heart who can play. The ratings don't mean much.

Levert only had "interest" from the big boys until we released him. They were late to the party and we had already signed him. It seems like a similar situation here. We will see in the next 4 years if they should have been on him sooner

Forget the hype, ratings and offers--I can't wait for the start of next season to see what we "actually" got in this recruiting class.  That in itself will make the start of next season fun as it will go a long ways in determining what the next 2-3 years will be like in Athens now that the cupboards have been cleared.
