OU Country - I was at the game last night, in person!  I'm not saying he will not have his games that will be good.  I am saying that I read on here a comment about him playing in the NBA.  What I saw in person was nowhere near that!  His body is far, far away from an NBA body, IMHO.  I also saw his home opener, so am very aware of his stats.  My real point is that most on the board have the highest of expectations early on and then get very negative as the season progresses (ex: football board right now).  Let's not put this team out there on a pedestal 2 games into the yr.  I have no doubt that Maurice will be a solid player, but I'm not going to say "today" that he will lead us to a MAC championship!

On Saturday, I felt like he dominated the low post for much of the game against the types of players he'll face the majority of his Ohio career.  Who says he looks like an NBA player physically?  At least in this thread?

I'm not reading the expectations on this board that you're referring to about this year's team.  I'm just happy they're looking good so far.  And for the Football team, well they've gotten blasted in two straight games.  I don't see what the issue is with being negative about a 49-0 hammering at BG.    I'm with you about the fact that some can be excessively negative, but there wasn't much positive to talk about on the field from what I've read.

Lande...all due respect but I think at this point I am more likely to be up on NDour's chance to be an NBA body at the 3 than I ever was sold on DJ's ability and BBIQ to get there.at all. Guards are a dime a dozen. 6'8 guys with speed, motor, length and bounce are hard to find and grow.

There are a lot of GM's and scouts wholook for the Ndours of the world. I thnk his length, court awareness and bounce will have many of them seeing Steven Jackson. He is most assuredly a 3 in the league and has already demonstrated his speed, ability to shoot the ball in the midrange and from the arc as well as a willingness to go inside if needed. Runs like a gazelle. I see huge upside form a guy who is smart, has a high motor and a desire to play.

I am NOT saying I think he is a lock for the NBA but I do see why folks would think so....and I do not say that about very many guys. He is a diamond and will get only better as he understands the game and learns to play it.

Ndour reminds me of more athletic Andrew Nicholson. Long, good mid-range set jumper, gazelle-like running styles. Nicholson's BB IQ is through the roof, but after watching Ndour twice, that's the best comparison I can think of.

that's fair too.

I am just throwing out a name for reference as to what scouts are thinking. I was not going for accuracy or attempting to pigeon hole him on eto ne with anyone. Not seen enough to assess. Point being there are guys in the league that he can be compared to directly and not attach a "poor man's.....(fill i nthe blank)" label to Ndour.

I definitely agree with you there. He's a unique player-there are so many players in college hoops more skilled than he is, but he has the things you can't teach-length and smarts. Especially in the NBA, you can develop skills. You can't develop size.

I don't think it requires a great deal of insight to see that Ndour possesses attributes that translate well to the NBA.
Would love to see his development continue at the rate it seems to be progressing. It will be a fun two years for Bobcat fans :)

I think we were spoiled by D.J.'s assists totals the last four years. I wouldn't mind at all if we have more of an uptempo, aggressive team with fewer assists this year. I like the scoring mindset of Stevie and how Nick is finding his outside/drive games. I saw Kent against Temple and thought their guards were better but after the OSU game I'm saying with Stevie, Nick, Bean and Ric we have a great four-guard lineup. Our bigs also will have no trouble in the MAC. As good as McCrea and Treadwell are they would have had trouble containing Amir Williams and even McDonald or Loving. Look at OSU's lineup, no one in the MAC has that athleticism and smarts (Craft). Akron has a horrible point guard, a plodding center and an erratic wing in Harney. I really think we can do it this year...and stop hatin on Ndour. Only second D-1 game! How many shots did he alter or how much did he pump up his teammates with his intensity. His head and mouth were always moving with words for his teammates.

And let me end with this: Setty will only get better! Watch out MAC. He's our new Boals!

I never saw Boals play, but I get the impression his offensive game was much more advanced than what I have seen from Setty to this point.  Yes?  No?

Totally different style of play. Boals was an enforcer, a banger with 15' range. Did all the dirty jobs, rebounded, dove after loose balls, got in fights, and set debilitating ball screens. Setty looks a little more skilled as an overall player.

Not sure he was as a sophomore.  But if Setty turns into Boals I will be giddy.  He's one of my favorite all-time Bobcats.

My favorite Bobcat athlete is Kelly Lamberti, so, well...yeah.

Right on the money. Stevie is my favorite Men's Bobcat athlete right now. Kelly is my favorite Women's Bobcat athlete right now - and the BEST Bobcat athlete of any gender.....................

Boals actually injured opposing players w/his screens

I actually enjoyed hearing Jim Jackson's comments regarding Stevie, in response to his partner's quips. It's as though the other announcer wanted to be (or was) surprised by what he was seeing. Where JJ was speaking moreso from having seen and heard of Stevie's exploits coming up in the area as a kid. He actually sounded like he enjoyed watching Stevie play the way he did on that stage.

I personally came away, impressed by the game our starting backcourt played as a whole. Could things have been done better in some instances? Yes, but all in all, I was pleased.

And, the MAC is a guard oriented league.  This team may surprise after all!

I really enjoyed the video feature on him during his freshman year showing off all of his Bobcat gear.  He truly loves being a Bobcat.

I may be slightly off on some of the details here, but through his junior year in high school, Jeff was being recruited by some high major schools.  At the beginning of his sr. year he suffered a serious knee injury and there was no further interest from the high majors.  I think he had at least two more procedures done on his knees while he was in Athens.

Jeff Boals may have been one of the two or three most mentally and physically tough individuals ever to wear our colors.  His knee problems severely limited his mobility, but not his desire.  He fought hard for every rebound, every loose ball.  He would give Gary Trent such a working over in practice that Trent wanted to fight him, but as he explained to Gary, that was what he could expect in every game for the rest of his career, wherever that career took him.  The two now are good friends.

It is a shame we never got to see him play when he was physically at his best. He did indeed have game...

Was headed out to Stanford before the knee injury. Says something about the student part of student-athlete.

This picture is one of the Top 5 best from the last 5 years for me.

Stevie has really taken it up a notch this year. I forgot how much I loved watching his highlight films from high school. Really played with flash. The one of he and Trey Burke teaming up is truly fun to watch. Stevie showed the ability to finish around the hoop then that he has shown the last two games. If he keeps that up..... Man.

Another magical thing... He is only a junior. Great kid and looking like he has developed into a great player. Very excited.

I'm not sure whether there was a message being delivered to Stevie from Coach Christian when Bean joined the program last year as a transfer.  If there was, Stevie heard and loud and clear, and so far has responded to the challenge.  Hats off to him.

You think the message was something like "You better bring your "A" game or Jon Smith (enter any other roster name here) will be OUr point guard"? The alternate option would have been what - wait/hope for a walk on point guard?

Stevie has known all along what he wanted. THis is the first time he has had a chance to get on the floor and get there.

If you have not seen the potential in the previous years you have not been watching with a critical eye. THere are those moments along the way that gave you a clue.  Dagger 3's and timely shots with drives to the rim are parts of last years highlight reels. THis is truly his first chance to run the team and he is making the most of it. Hard to play behind a guy like DJ and have your light shine.

Not to slam fans who are bipolar and have pendulum like mood swings on each game and each possession but ya gotta love those pronouncements that  a player is a bust or is too small, too big. unskilled, the wrong fit and so on based what THEY see or feel. I am not as smart as a lot of these guys who proclaim a guy to be too this or that. I feel so dumb at times when they obviously can forsee an entire 4 year career in a 3 game sample through a crappy feed on a small video screen. When reading those opinions I feel like I got to get to even more games to hone my skills at evaluating players because I must not be very good.....

+1

Not to mention those guys who predict the results of a whole game based on a few early plays and then make conclusions about the whole season.
