Ha Ha Ha! If I were technologically so inclined I would find a video of someone laughing hysterically and add it to this post! The Rufus/Brutus fight was a fake fight?! If I remember correctly the kid that was Rufus didn't even attend Ohio at the time. Wasn't he a student at Hocking Tech? He applied and wanted to be Rufus for the sole purpose of going to Ohio State and pulling off the stunt. You call that fake?! It was a very embarrassing incident for the University especially considering they didn't even check on or realize the kid should have never been Rufus in the first place. Sorry Delbobcat - I don't see how anyone can call it fake.
This whole thread has me in tears laughing. Of course the answer to the question of what our response would be to one of our own pulling the stunt in the OSU/Mich. game is that most posters on here would have thought it hilarious. I've been reading this site for a long time and had that figured out long ago. It seems that most questionable things that come out of our side of things are looked at differently. I almost responded to whomever put the Missouri student section getting kicked out of games on this thread a while back. They listed the unreasonable things they were doing that got them kicked out. Our response was that "Look - see how bad other student sections are!" JUSTIFICATION! Actually most of the items listed were parallel or actually the same to what the O-zone has done in the past. Just ask the Hipsher's from Akron at the time. Better yet ask Momma Hipsher. There was a reason they flipped off the O-zone as well. I remember those things being brought up here as "stuff" the o-zone should do or did and it was thought to be very funny. Take a deep hard look at what we've done and you should agree.
Our conclusion in this thread with the whole "You Suck" debate was that "You Suck" is acceptable in our language today. It is said commonly out in the open by young and old alike. No big deal! Actually I hear "F**k You" said all the time by young and old, male and female. I see people of all kinds flipping the bird frequently. Therefore, with our mindset on these things you would have to rationalize that "F**k You" or flipping the bird should be considered acceptable too. NOT! "I hate you" is probably considered to be part of our culture and language also, but does that make it right to tell it to someone? We as a fan base can be as fickle as any other!
First bolded part:
I already explained that by "fake" I meant that the kid in the Rufus costume was not really mad at the kid in the Brutus costume and did not do what he did to purposefully inflict harm. In fact, he didn't inflict physical harm at all--purposeful or not. On the other hand, the O$U and Michigan players actually got into a real fight. You know, the ones where you are actually mad at the other person and trying to inflict harm.
Yes, I did think it was funny that one mascot tackled the other. I thought it was hilarious, in fact. I also thought the kid deserved the punishment he was dealt. I don't see how you can possibly draw parallels between the two situations.
Second bolded part:
This is just poor logic. You're arguing that allowing people to say "sucks" puts us on a slippery slope to all kinds of obscene gestures and sayings. By that rationale, we shouldn't allow anyone to say anything that might possibly offend one single other person in the entire world.
The reality is that "you suck" and "f*** you" are two very different expressions. One is obviously not as offensive as the other, and if you can't see that then I think this debate is a lost cause.
