But our shenanigans are cheeky and fun, and their shenanigans are cruel and tragic, which makes them not shenanigans at all, really.

*my* favorite in that regard is Gino's East in Chicago ..... but I like the garlic bread and Deep Dish.

As for the fans, I'm really amazed that I've seen a number of folks who think it's great that he did it.

Spot on.  It's not like Ohio fans would EVER condone behavior that represents the university in a negative light....

Do you really equate those two situations? One involves a fake fight between two guys in cartoonish costumes. The other involves a real fight with actual pain inflicted and a guy ejected, at which point he decided to flip off the Michigan crowd and throw a temper tantrum. One seems a lot worse to me. And yes I would condemn the behavior if it was an Ohio player--in fact, I would suspend him for an entire game.

And of course, if we are comparing the two, one immediately lost his privileges of representing his university...the other will play in the Big TwEleveN Championship on Saturday

Personally, as wrong as it was, I admit I love that Rufus "dotting the eye" photo.  The photographer's made some $$$$ selling it at Columbus Blue Jackets games...I need to cough up the money and get it.

I wouldn't suspend him, but a punishment of some kind is on order. At the very least, a public apology.

Something like this, perhaps?

I would like to apologize to The Ohio State University, The University of Michigan, my teammates, my family, the fans and the TV viewing audience for my behavior during yesterday's game. Wearing the scarlet and grey uniform is a privlege and an honor. I let my emotions get the best of me and didn't conduct myself properly in the heat of the moment. My actions do not reflect who I am as a person and teammate. I love The Ohio State University and appreciate everything it has done for me. From the bottom of my heart, I am truly sorry and hope everyone can accept my sincere apology.

Yep.

1. It wasn't a fake fight.
2. What actual pain was inflicted by this guy? (other than the pain of watching a 300-lb man act like a toddler who doesn't get his way)

Both were embarrassments to the university on a national stage by rogue students, yet cheered on by fans in message board posts and immortalized in t-shirts.

1. Yes, it was a fake fight. No one was actually injured. He tackled the guy, he didn't actually try to inflict harm.

2. The actual pain I was referring to was the brawl he took part in that led to his ejection.

Plus, someone already helpfully pointed out that the university handled the Rufus vs. Brutus situation appropriately. That is in contrast to the way that O$U is handling this situation.

Ha Ha Ha!  If I were technologically so inclined I would find a video of someone laughing hysterically and add it to this post!  The Rufus/Brutus fight was a fake fight?!  If I remember correctly the kid that was Rufus didn't even attend Ohio at the time.  Wasn't he a student at Hocking Tech?  He applied and wanted to be Rufus for the sole purpose of going to Ohio State and pulling off the stunt.  You call that fake?!  It was a very embarrassing incident for the University especially considering they didn't even check on or realize the kid should have never been Rufus in the first place.  Sorry Delbobcat - I don't see how anyone can call it fake.

This whole thread has me in tears laughing.  Of course the answer to the question of what our response would be to one of our own pulling the stunt in the OSU/Mich. game is that most posters on here would have thought it hilarious.  I've been reading this site for a long time and had that figured out long ago.  It seems that most questionable things that come out of our side of things are looked at differently.  I almost responded to whomever put the Missouri student section getting kicked out of games on this thread a while back.  They listed the unreasonable things they were doing that got them kicked out.  Our response was that "Look - see how bad other student sections are!"  JUSTIFICATION!  Actually most of the items listed were parallel or actually the same to what the O-zone has done in the past.  Just ask the Hipsher's from Akron at the time.  Better yet ask Momma Hipsher.  There was a reason they flipped off the O-zone as well. I remember those things being brought up here as "stuff" the o-zone should do or did and it was thought to be very funny.  Take a deep hard look at what we've done and you should agree.

Our conclusion in this thread with the whole "You Suck" debate was that "You Suck" is acceptable in our language today.  It is said commonly out in the open by young and old alike.  No big deal!  Actually I hear "F**k You" said all the time by young and old, male and female.  I see people of all kinds flipping the bird frequently.  Therefore, with our mindset on these things you would have to rationalize that "F**k You" or flipping the bird should be considered acceptable too.  NOT!  "I hate you" is probably considered to be part of our culture and language also, but does that make it right to tell it to someone?  We as a fan base can be as fickle as any other!

So let me get this straight....you want us to adjust according to what Akron, a school that has a slightly above average fan base, and Miami, a school that has a large population that isn't even aware that it has a team, think of us????  I'm sorry but "you suck" probably is the nicest thing players hear from a student section.  I'm sorry that we aren't returning to the times where opposing student sections stood across from each other and shouted "yes yes yes we do we got spirit how about you!" and tried to see who could shout louder.  I'm sorry we're not returning to the time when "Great try *opposing team name*, that was a great try, but we were better.  good luck next time!"

oh yeah, and if you think players actually care....go to a hockey game.  Gang Green screams much much worse stuff than you suck.....oh and the opposing players love it.  I've heard it from them, people before me heard it from them.  Players love it when opposing student sections bring hostility.

show me a broadcast of a Buckeye home game where the repeated chant of "a**hole" doesn't come through crystal clear at some point.
