I have been looking at this and a couple of alternatives for a bit now. My Sony google TV Blue ray player is doing well but the Android functions are wearing me a bit thin. The chromecast seems like it is the next step up from my Sony situation. 35 bucks but the limited function is holding some back. I think it would be a no brainer to get on board now and rejoice as they chase Apple TV by adding more functions to the product.

Nice part is you can move it from TV to TV if I understand that correctly ...the only ti=hing you need is the power source.

Van...as you use it more could you keep us updated periodically?

Will do.  I tried on Christmas day watching the replay of the UMass game and I was very happy with the quality of the feed.

Up until reading this thread, I had myself convinced Longwood was from California.  Not sure why and not sure why I was so sure in that I didn't inquire, it just sounded like a team from CA.  Just doesn't sound like a team from Virginia for some reason.

One thing good about being an Ohio fan, you really get educated on obscure college names and locations.  We play a ton of them each season that up until the point they get listed on our schedules, I've never heard of them. (not sure that's a good thing)

I thought they were that school from TX we scheduled a couple years ago.

Can't wait til we get Incarnate Word on the schedule.

Hey guys, for those of you that know me, you remember that I am from bum-ass Virginia. Over half of my graduating class got in to Longwood, and I can give a very good breakdown of the team and how they're doing.

Longwood is located in Farmville, VA, not too far outside of Richmond. They play in the Big South, and last year made some noise in the conference tournament after having a terrible season. Earlier this season they had their first winning record in basketball ever when they started 2-1. They have a win away over TCU, so take from that what you will. Their mascot is the Lancer, and they are having a dispute with Liberty University over who gets to call themselves "LU". They play a very undisciplined style of ball, from what I saw earlier this season. Only one or two actual offensive ideas, but very much like Morgan State in the was that they play very individualistic ball. There's no one that really poses a threat, IMO.

I have a friend from high school who is a manager for their basketball team, so I'll see if I can get him on here.

After Longwood's complaints, it was switched to say "Liberty University".

Someone needs to help my man RPKirtland out here....

2-1 was our first winning record in basketball ever? We started off 3-2 in 2010-11 (just for starters). In 2008-09 we finished 17-14, our first winning Division I season. We've also been to the Division III Final Four and made the tournament as a Division II team on three different occasions. So what you're saying couldn't be further from the truth.

To say we play a very undisciplined brand of basketball isn't fair either. You'd be right on if you were talking about the past 10 years under the prior regime, but Coach Gee has totally changed the culture of the program. We don't have the horses right now and is building a program brick by brick. To say we play individualistic ball is a total misnomer. Four guys average in double figures, we play primarily two PG sets, and our starting point guard is currently 6th in the country in scoring. I'm not sure how that point to me-ball?

I went to Ohio-Richmond on Sunday and your biggest advantage will be in the post, N'dour should have a field day. Our best post player, Michael Kessens, bolted for Alabama after last season and our cupboard is bare in the frontcourt. That changes next year with a 6'11 redshirt freshman we have and Tulane transfer Lotanna Nwogbo becoming eligible.

Also, your take on the Longwood-Liberty dispute is totally off-base. "LU" is still on Liberty Mountain and Longwood has no problem with. Liberty became a university in 1984 and Longwood did the same in 2001. Liberty has sued several school who have an interlocking LU logo (like Lipscomb), but there is no dispute with Longwood.

I suspect we're playing Ohio b/c of Coach Gee's ties to the area and his history. The first player Gee signed last spring was from Dayton and all three of our current Class of 2014 signees are from Ohio.

Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Looking forward to watching. I just couldn't read some of the stuff being misidentified haha.

Welcome LancersBlog.  Thanks for the clarification on many issues.  I registered for your board earlier today and was going to fill you in the Bobcats and post the link to the free video feed but got busy at work.  Since you were at the game Sunday (so was I) you are already aware of what we have.  I agree with your assessment that we'll have a big advantage in the paint.  But the teams that give us problems seem to be the teams that like to drive the ball to the hoop.  We have been better of late but it looks like you guys get to the line a lot.  Where you might have problems is turnovers. When our defense is going we create a lot of turnovers and it looks like you guys have problems there..

We have been very productive from the charity stripe this year, but it's hard to account for. Karl Ziegler is really the only guy who is slashing to the bucket for us right now. I think our two PG set will hopefully let us limit turnovers, Coach Gee was not happy with the effort against Dartmouth at all.

What you'll see primarily from our offense a lot is a basic motion offense. Many times you'll see Ziegler set up at the foul line and the ball will go into him with his back to the basic. From their he'll either look for TT Carey (19.7 ppg) on the perimeter or turn around and shot if open. Dublin is the only offensive "big man" but he was blocked several times versus Dartmouth. He takes a lot of ugly layups with crazy spin that somehow find their way into the basket. Carey is a credible threat and maybe the best shooter in the conference. He scored 31 and 40 points against Radford and Liberty in back to back games last year.

On defense, Coach Gee really wants to get out and pressure teams but recognizes that the personnel isn't right for that right now. You'll likely see mostly a 2-3 zone from us on Monday. On thing about Gee is he doesn't call off the dogs and uses every minute of every game to prepare his core rotation for conference play. Even if your up 20 with less than 5 minutes to go and have the back ups in, don't be surprised if we start to press.

This team is a year or two off from competing for a conference title. Things will get bolstered next year with four or five 2014 signees and a UAB and Tulane transfer becoming eligible.

One interesting thing of note in this one is that Kenny Belton's brother, Isaac, is a freshman for Longwood. I know he never really got a full chance to play for y'all though.

Good to have you on here, Lancerblog.

I remember when you folks were Div. III and Div. II. I also know you were independent for a few years, but have now joined the Big South. That can be a fun conference. I attended a game at Radford several years ago.

And we play at UNC Asheville later on this season. We had them in the Bracket Buster a couple years ago and beat them badly. But it was one of those nights where we could do no wrong and Asheville could do nothing right.

Excited to have Coach Gee in here for a game. Our younger set won't know him at all, but he was one of the best asst coaches we've ever had here.

Thanks for the welcome. Being Independent was rough so joining a conference last year was a really big deal for everyone. We knocked off Asheville in the Big South tourney last year, which was our biggest win last season. Asheville is an interesting team this year, Keith Hornsby transferred for LSU and their coach left to be an assistant at UNCW. They've played a very tough schedule this year and have a very good freshman guard Andrew Rowsey.

I've heard the same about Coach Gee everywhere that he went, I truly believe if he can't build a program here then no one can. I know Gary Trent credited him a lot with his maturation and development. I expect our ascent to be similar to Radford's right now with Mike Jones where we creep to .500 a yaer from now and then become a real threat in the conference.

2015-16 is the year I'm looking at. Our point guard, Lucas Woodhouse, will be a senior then and he is the best point guard that we've ever had in my opinion. He broke the school record for assists last year despite not being the starting PG until mid-January.

Apologies for a lot of the false information I passed along. I have a lot of friends that go there and, due to my listening to them, was misled on several issues. Thanks for taking care of it, LancersBlog!

We seriously need to show some humility here. What right do we have to look down our noses at an opponent who is Div I, belongs to the Big South, and competes in the same league with schools like Winthrop and UNC Asheville.

Remember our loss to Winthrop?

Between Pat Kelsey and Jayson Gee coaching in the Big South you'll likely be seeing a lot of Longwood and Winthrop in the same recruiting circles and scheduling match ups with a lot of MAC/Horizon/Ohio teams.

I'm not sure it's so much looking down our noses as it's unfamiliarity with them.  Seems like every year we get one or two teams on the schedule that we have to google just to find anything about.  They beat TCU, which has only three losses including one in the championship game (I think) of the Alaska Shootout, so I don't think anybody is taking them too lightly.  Especially JC -- since they beat his old team -- and the guys who'll suit up tomorrow night.

Maybe it's not even possible to elevate our schedule the way most of us would like. But, you mean to tell me we can't schedule Youngstown State, Detroit Mercy, Milwaukee or Cleveland State instead of Longwood, Alabama A&M and the like? Somebody who has played in Division 1 more than 6 months. That's all I'm saying.

I'm sure we could but it would be away every other year with those schools. You can get Longwood and Alabama A&M to visit The Convo and not expect a return trip.

Santa left a Chromecast under the Christmas tree for me, so I'm eager to try it for a game tonight. Been working great so far streaming Netflix.

I'm currently having massive buffering issues here just before tip-off, but that has nothing to do with the Chromecast. How's the web feed for everybody else?
